Chapter 8: The Order That Came From Alejandro Moretti

Nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

The accusation sat in the middle of the room like a loaded weapon.

A weapon more dangerous than the poison still spreading through Alejandro Moretti’s body.

Because poison could kill a man.

But a truth like this could destroy everything he believed about himself.

Alejandro stared at Bruno Ferraro.

His oldest friend.

His most loyal soldier.

The man who had stood beside him through wars, betrayals, and bloodshed.

“You’re lying.”

The words were quiet.

But they carried the weight of a storm.

Bruno looked down.

“I wish I was.”

Alejandro’s eyes hardened.

“You expect me to believe I ordered my own daughter’s death?”

“No.”

Bruno shook his head.

“I expect you to believe that someone made you believe you did.”

The room became still.

Emma looked confused.

She looked at Alejandro.

Then Bruno.

Then the old man.

Adults were strange.

They could say something terrible and then make it even more complicated.

A person could be guilty.

But maybe not guilty.

A person could do something.

But maybe someone else made them do it.

Emma did not understand the game.

But she understood one thing.

Someone was hiding the truth.

And everyone in this room had been hiding something.

Bruno reached into his damaged jacket.

Immediately, Victor moved.

But Bruno slowly raised both hands.

“I’m not reaching for a weapon.”

He pulled out a small device.

A memory card.

“I copied the evidence before they came after me.”

Alejandro looked at it.

“What evidence?”

Bruno walked toward the desk.

“The original command file.”

He placed the card down.

“The one that authorized the operation.”

Alejandro stared.

“What operation?”

Bruno looked at him.

“The operation that removed the threat to the Moretti family.”

A cold feeling moved through Alejandro.

“Threat?”

Bruno nodded.

“That’s what the file called her.”

A pause.

“Kiara.”

The name hurt everyone.

Especially Alejandro.

He closed his eyes.

His little girl.

His daughter.

The only innocent person in a family built on violence.

Angelo stepped forward.

“Give me the card.”

Bruno looked at him.

“No.”

The old man’s eyes narrowed.

For years, almost nobody had refused Angelo Moretti.

But Bruno did.

“I spent twenty-five years protecting this family.”

Bruno’s voice became harder.

“But I spent the last three years protecting the truth.”

Victor stared.

“You knew everything?”

“No.”

Bruno looked at him.

“I knew enough to know all of us were being controlled.”

Clara stepped closer.

“By who?”

Bruno looked toward Alejandro.

“That is what I was trying to discover.”

Alejandro looked at the card.

“Then show me.”

Bruno hesitated.

“You may not like what you see.”

Alejandro laughed weakly.

“Tonight I discovered my brother poisoned me, my father is alive, and my daughter’s death was planned.”

His eyes became cold.

“What else could possibly surprise me?”

Bruno inserted the memory card into the hidden system.

The screen activated.

A file appeared.

PROJECT ECLIPSE

Emma read the words aloud.

“Project Eclipse.”

Nobody answered.

Alejandro frowned.

“What is that?”

Angelo’s face changed.

A small reaction.

But everyone saw it.

“You know.”

Angelo remained silent.

Alejandro looked at him.

“You know.”

The old man finally spoke.

“Project Eclipse was not supposed to exist anymore.”

Victor looked at him.

“What was it?”

Angelo stared at the screen.

“An emergency protocol.”

“For what?”

“For controlling the Moretti empire.”

A silence.

Alejandro laughed.

“Controlling?”

Angelo looked at him.

“Yes.”

“You created a plan to control me?”

“No.”

The old man looked at everyone.

“To control whoever inherited my empire.”

That sentence changed the atmosphere.

Because suddenly this was bigger than Alejandro.

Bigger than Kiara.

Bigger than tonight.

Angelo continued.

“When I built this organization, I knew power could destroy the person holding it.”

Victor frowned.

“So you created a backup plan?”

“Yes.”

“What kind of backup plan?”

Angelo looked at the screen.

“A way to remove an unstable leader.”

Alejandro stared.

“Remove?”

Angelo did not answer.

But everyone understood.

Bruno looked at Alejandro.

“The file shows that three years ago, Project Eclipse was activated.”

Clara whispered:

“By who?”

Bruno opened the document.

The screen displayed a signature.

Everyone leaned closer.

Alejandro froze.

Because the signature was familiar.

It was his.

ALEJANDRO MORETTI

Emma looked at him.

“Did you write it?”

Alejandro could not answer.

His mind was fighting itself.

No.

Impossible.

He would never.

Never.

But the signature…

The account…

The authorization…

Everything pointed to him.

Victor watched his brother carefully.

Then something unexpected happened.

Victor laughed.

Not happily.

Not cruelly.

A broken laugh.

“Do you finally understand?”

Alejandro looked at him.

“Understand what?”

“That we were all victims.”

Nobody expected those words from Victor.

The man who poisoned him.

The man who betrayed him.

The man who had planned his death.

Victor continued.

“You think I wanted you dead because I hated you.”

A pause.

“I wanted you dead because I thought you killed Kiara.”

Alejandro stared.

Victor’s eyes became red.

“I spent three years believing my brother murdered his own daughter.”

His voice cracked.

“And I hated you for it.”

The room went silent.

Then Victor looked at Bruno.

“But then I found out the truth.”

Bruno nodded.

“Someone used Alejandro’s identity.”

Alejandro looked between them.

“Someone framed me.”

“Yes.”

Bruno answered.

“But they needed something.”

“What?”

Bruno looked at Emma.

Everyone followed his eyes.

The little girl holding the hidden camera.

“The one person who could expose everything.”

Emma looked down at herself.

“Me?”

Bruno nodded.

“No.”

He looked at Alejandro.

“Your mother.”

Everyone froze.

“My mother?”

Emma whispered.

Bruno turned toward the door.

“Emma’s mother didn’t work here because she needed a job.”

Alejandro stared.

“Then why?”

Bruno answered:

“Because she was investigating Kiara’s death.”

A sound came from outside.

Everyone turned.

The hallway camera showed movement.

Someone was approaching.

Fast.

Bruno looked at the monitor.

His face lost color.

“No…”

Alejandro noticed.

“Who?”

Bruno stepped backward.

“The person who has been cleaning up every witness.”

The footsteps grew louder.

Tap.

Tap.

Tap.

Not a cane.

Shoes.

A person walking confidently.

A person who knew this house.

A person who belonged here.

The door opened.

A woman entered.

Emma gasped.

Because she knew her.

Everyone knew her.

She had brought Emma food.

She had smiled at the servants.

She had been around the mansion for years.

The woman looked at Alejandro.

Then at the memory card.

Then smiled.

“Finally.”

She closed the door.

“You found the truth.”

Alejandro stared.

“Who are you?”

The woman’s smile faded.

And her answer shocked everyone.

“I’m the person who has been protecting your family from itself.”

A pause.

Then she looked at Emma.

May you like

“And I’m the reason your mother is still alive.”
