Chapter 7: The Bodyguard Who Knew Too Much

The video disappeared.

The screen went black.

But Bruno Ferraro’s voice remained inside everyone’s mind.

“The girl cannot survive.”

Four words.

Four words that changed everything.

Alejandro Moretti had spent three years searching for the person responsible for his daughter’s death.

He had destroyed businesses.

Broken alliances.

Forced enemies to confess.

He had made entire families disappear because he believed they were connected to Kiara’s death.

But the person standing closest to him…

The man he trusted with his life…

Had been hiding the truth.

Bruno Ferraro.

His protector.

His soldier.

His brother in everything except blood.

Alejandro slowly looked toward Victor.

Then Clara.

Then Angelo.

Finally, the hidden camera in Emma’s hand.

“No.”

His voice was quiet.

But everyone heard it.

“No.”

He shook his head.

“Bruno would never.”

Victor gave a bitter laugh.

“That is what you always say.”

Alejandro looked at him.

“What?”

“You always believe the people closest to you are different.”

Victor stepped closer.

“You thought I was different.”

A pause.

“You thought Clara was different.”

Another pause.

“And now Bruno.”

Alejandro’s eyes became cold.

“You don’t understand loyalty.”

Victor smiled sadly.

“No.”

He looked around the room.

“I understand it better than you.”

The words surprised everyone.

Victor continued.

“You built your entire life around loyalty.”

He pointed toward the walls.

“This house.”

“The guards.”

“The rules.”

“The punishments.”

“You thought if people feared betrayal enough, they would never betray you.”

His voice lowered.

“But you never asked why they wanted to betray you.”

Alejandro looked away.

Because he hated admitting it.

But there was truth hidden inside Victor’s anger.

Angelo watched silently.

Like a man observing a lesson.

Emma noticed.

The old man was enjoying this.

Not because people were suffering.

Because he believed suffering revealed the truth.

Emma did not like him.

Not because he was scary.

Because he made people hurt each other.

She stepped closer to Alejandro.

The movement was small.

But everyone noticed.

Especially Angelo.

“You chose him.”

The old man looked at Emma.

“What?”

“You chose him.”

She pointed at Alejandro.

“You helped him.”

Angelo studied her.

“Yes.”

“Why?”

Nobody expected the question.

Especially from a four-year-old.

Angelo looked almost amused.

“You want to know why?”

Emma nodded.

“Because he was dying.”

The old man looked at Alejandro.

“And because I wanted to see if there was still something human left inside my son.”

Alejandro’s expression hardened.

“You poisoned me.”

“Yes.”

“You watched me suffer.”

“Yes.”

“And you call that helping?”

Angelo’s eyes became colder.

“Sometimes people only see the truth when they are close to losing everything.”

Alejandro stared at him.

“I lost my daughter.”

For a moment…

Angelo said nothing.

The old man’s expression changed slightly.

A tiny crack.

Regret?

Maybe.

Then it disappeared.

“I know.”

“No.”

Alejandro’s voice shook.

“You don’t.”

The room went quiet.

Because that was the first time Alejandro had ever spoken to his father without fear.

“I buried my little girl.”

His breathing became heavier.

“I held her broken toy in my hands because I couldn’t let go.”

His eyes filled with anger.

“I listened to my wife cry every night.”

He looked at Victor.

“I watched my family fall apart.”

Then at Angelo.

“And you knew.”

The old man looked away.

For a brief second, he looked old.

Not powerful.

Not dangerous.

Just old.

“I knew.”

The answer hurt more.

Alejandro closed his eyes.

Then suddenly…

A loud alarm sounded.

Everyone turned.

The mansion security system flashed red.

INTRUDER DETECTED.

Victor immediately looked toward the hallway.

“That’s impossible.”

Angelo looked calm.

“No.”

He tapped his cane.

“It is expected.”

Alejandro frowned.

“What did you do?”

Angelo looked at him.

“I invited someone.”

The door to the study shook.

Once.

Twice.

Then a voice came through.

“Boss?”

Everyone froze.

Bruno.

Alejandro’s face changed.

Because Bruno was outside.

And he sounded terrified.

“Boss, open the door!”

Victor moved toward it.

Alejandro stopped him.

“Wait.”

Everyone listened.

Bruno’s voice came again.

“Someone is inside the mansion.”

A pause.

Then:

“They’re coming for you.”

Victor looked confused.

“Bruno?”

The old man smiled.

Interesting.

Because if Bruno was the traitor…

Why was he warning them?

Unless…

There was another possibility.

The door suddenly opened.

Bruno Ferraro stood there.

His suit was torn.

A cut ran across his forehead.

His gun was missing.

He looked exhausted.

And terrified.

Everyone stared.

Especially Alejandro.

Bruno looked at him.

“Boss…”

Alejandro’s voice was cold.

“Tell me why I saw you.”

Bruno froze.

Then he saw the video still open.

The photograph.

The folder.

His face changed.

“You found it.”

Nobody spoke.

Bruno closed his eyes.

“I was hoping you never would.”

Alejandro’s heart sank.

Not because Bruno looked guilty.

Because Bruno looked broken.

Like a man carrying a secret too heavy to hold.

“Why?”

One word.

Bruno looked at him.

“I didn’t kill Kiara.”

The answer came quickly.

Too quickly.

Alejandro stared.

“But you knew.”

Bruno looked down.

“Yes.”

The room became silent.

Emma watched him.

He looked different from Victor.

Different from Angelo.

Those men carried power.

Bruno carried regret.

“Explain.”

Bruno stepped inside.

Closed the door.

Then looked at everyone.

“I have been protecting this family for twenty-five years.”

He looked at Angelo.

“Even from you.”

Angelo’s eyes narrowed.

Bruno continued.

“When Kiara died, I discovered the truth.”

Alejandro’s hands tightened.

“What truth?”

Bruno swallowed.

“That the accident was planned.”

“We know that.”

“No.”

Bruno shook his head.

“You don’t.”

He looked at the old man.

“The person who ordered it…”

A pause.

“Was not Angelo.”

Everyone froze.

Angelo’s expression changed.

For the first time.

Confusion.

Bruno continued.

“And it wasn’t Victor.”

Victor looked angry.

“Then who?”

Bruno looked at Alejandro.

“I spent three years trying to find out.”

His voice lowered.

“And when I finally discovered the name…”

He stopped.

Like saying it out loud would bring disaster.

Alejandro stared.

“Say it.”

Bruno looked toward the door.

Then whispered:

“The person who ordered Kiara’s death…”

A pause.

“…was Alejandro Moretti.”

The room exploded into silence.

Emma looked at Alejandro.

Clara covered her mouth.

Victor stepped back.

Even Angelo looked shocked.

Alejandro stared at Bruno.

“No.”

Bruno’s eyes filled with pain.

“I wish I was wrong.”

Alejandro’s voice became almost a whisper.

“I would never hurt my daughter.”

Bruno nodded.

“I know.”

“Then why say this?”

Bruno looked at the hidden camera.

“At first, I thought someone was framing you.”

He took a deep breath.

“But then I found the original file.”

A pause.

“The order came from your own account.”

Alejandro felt the world disappear.

Because if Bruno was telling the truth…

Then the greatest betrayal was not from his family.

Not from his enemies.

Not from the people around him.

May you like

It came from himself.
