Chapter 13: The Final Blackwood Secret

The mansion had never felt so dangerous.
Not because of weapons.
Not because of threats.
Because of the truth.
Emily stood across from Evelyn Blackwood, the woman who had controlled the lives of so many people for decades.
The woman who had turned families against each other.
The woman who had hidden behind wealth, influence, and fear.
But now, for the first time, Evelyn was standing in front of Emily.
Not hiding.
Not manipulating from the shadows.
Facing her.
“You keep saying I can destroy the Blackwood empire,” Emily said.
Her voice was steady.
“But you still haven’t told me why.”
Evelyn smiled faintly.
“Because you still don’t understand what your father left you.”
Emily looked at the documents on the table.
“The inheritance?”
“No.”
Evelyn shook her head.
“Money is only a tool.”
She walked slowly through the room.
“People like Vanessa spent their entire lives chasing wealth because they never understood the real source of power.”
“What is the real source?”
Evelyn stopped.
“Information.”
The room became silent.
“Your father discovered something that could destroy every person in this family.”
Alexander looked at her.
“You mean the original records.”
Evelyn glanced at him.
“You always were your father’s biggest mistake.”
Alexander’s expression hardened.
“My father tried to protect people.”
“No.”
Evelyn smiled.
“Your father tried to protect his guilt.”
Emily looked between them.
“What are you talking about?”
Evelyn turned toward her.
“Your father Daniel Carter and Richard Blackwood were not only partners.”
She paused.
“They were involved in something much bigger.”
Daniel stepped forward.
“Stop.”
Evelyn ignored him.
“Twenty years ago, before Richard became one of the most powerful businessmen in the country, he discovered a way to expand his empire quickly.”
Emily watched Daniel’s face.
He looked uncomfortable.
Because he knew where this was going.
“He used illegal financial agreements.”
Evelyn continued.
“Hidden accounts.”
“Fake companies.”
“Manipulated contracts.”
Emily looked at the files.
“And my father found out?”
“Yes.”
“Then why didn’t he expose him?”
Evelyn smiled.
“Because Richard wasn’t the only one involved.”
Everyone became silent.
Emily slowly looked at Daniel.
Her heart sank.
“No.”
Evelyn continued.
“Daniel Carter helped build the system.”
Daniel closed his eyes.
“I was young.”
Emily turned toward him.
“You knew?”
Daniel looked at her.
“I knew parts of it.”
“Parts?”
His voice became painful.
“My father worked with Richard before I was born. He believed they were building something legitimate.”
“But they weren’t.”
“No.”
Daniel looked down.
“Later, when he realized what was happening, he tried to leave.”
Emily understood.
“And they stopped him.”
Daniel nodded.
Evelyn walked toward the center of the room.
“Everyone thinks I destroyed this family.”
She looked at Emily.
“But the truth is, this family destroyed itself long before I took control.”
Emily stared at her.
“Then why did you kill my father?”
For the first time, Evelyn’s expression changed.
Only slightly.
But Emily noticed.
A crack.
A moment of emotion.
“I didn’t.”
The answer shocked everyone.
Daniel stepped forward.
“Liar.”
Evelyn looked at him.
“You believe that because it is easier.”
“Marcus worked for you.”
“Yes.”
“He attacked my family because of you.”
“No.”
Evelyn’s voice became sharper.
“He attacked because he was protecting himself.”
Emily frowned.
“What does that mean?”
Evelyn looked at Marcus’s old documents.
“Marcus discovered something before your father did.”
“What?”
“That Richard was planning to expose everyone.”
Alexander looked surprised.
“Richard?”
“Yes.”
Evelyn nodded.
“Richard regretted everything.”
Emily thought about the letters.
The warnings.
The hidden messages.
Her father had said Richard was not the beginning.
Maybe he was right.
“Then why didn’t Richard tell the truth?”
Evelyn’s face became cold.
“Because he was afraid.”
“Of you?”
“Yes.”
The answer was immediate.
Everyone froze.
Evelyn continued.
“Richard created a monster he could not control.”
Emily stared.
“Vanessa.”
Evelyn nodded.
“Vanessa believed she deserved everything.”
“She wasn’t acting alone.”
“No.”
Evelyn looked at Emily.
“She was following someone.”
A chill moved through the room.
“Who?”
Evelyn looked directly at Sarah.
Emily’s mother.
Everyone turned.
Sarah became pale.
“No.”
Emily’s voice dropped.
“Mom?”
Sarah looked away.
Evelyn spoke.
“Your mother knows the final secret.”
Emily felt her heart sink.
“Again?”
Sarah closed her eyes.
“I wanted to tell you.”
“When?”
Sarah said nothing.
Emily laughed sadly.
“After another fifteen years?”
“Emily…”
“No.”
She shook her head.
“I’m tired.”
Her voice broke.
“I’m tired of everyone deciding when I deserve the truth.”
Sarah cried silently.
Because she knew her daughter was right.
Evelyn reached into her bag.
She pulled out a small black folder.
“This is what everyone has been searching for.”
Daniel looked at it.
“What is it?”
“The original Blackwood family agreement.”
Alexander stepped forward.
“The one that proves everything?”
Evelyn nodded.
“The one that shows who truly owns the empire.”
She handed it to Emily.
Emily hesitated.
“Why give this to me?”
Evelyn looked at her.
“Because I want to know what you will do.”
Emily opened the folder.
Inside was an old legal document.
At the top was a family agreement.
The names.
The signatures.
And a final clause.
Emily read it carefully.
Then her expression changed.
“What?”
Daniel looked at her.
“What does it say?”
Emily slowly lifted her eyes.
“The Blackwood empire cannot belong to one person.”
Everyone waited.
“It belongs to the descendants of both families.”
Alexander frowned.
“Both families?”
Emily continued.
“The Blackwood and Carter bloodlines.”
Silence.
Daniel understood first.
“That means…”
Emily nodded.
“The empire was never supposed to belong to Vanessa.”
Evelyn smiled slightly.
“Exactly.”
Emily looked at her.
“Then why did you let Vanessa believe it was hers?”
Evelyn’s expression became unreadable.
“Because I needed someone ambitious enough to protect the empire.”
“And?”
“And someone strong enough to destroy it.”
Emily froze.
“You wanted me to find the truth.”
“Yes.”
“You set everything up?”
Evelyn nodded.
“The necklace accusation.”
“Vanessa’s plan.”
“Marcus returning.”
“Everything pushed you toward this moment.”
Emily felt sick.
“You used me.”
Evelyn looked at her.
“Yes.”
The honesty was shocking.
“But unlike everyone else…”
She paused.
“I never lied about who I was.”
Emily looked away.
She hated that part of her understood.
Evelyn was cruel.
But she was honest.
Suddenly, a sound came from outside.
A car stopping.
Then another.
Daniel checked the security monitor.
His face changed.
“What?”
“Police.”
Everyone froze.
Evelyn smiled.
“Too late.”
Emily looked at her.
“What did you do?”
Evelyn looked toward the entrance.
“I didn’t call them.”
The mansion doors opened.
Several officers entered.
Behind them stood Vanessa.
Emily’s face changed.
Vanessa was no longer afraid.
She was smiling.
“I told you.”
Vanessa looked at Emily.
“You should have stayed a housekeeper.”
Daniel stepped forward.
“What did you do?”
Vanessa held up a document.
“A legal order.”
She smiled.
“Emily Carter is being arrested for fraud, identity theft, and attempted inheritance manipulation.”
The room exploded with whispers.
Emily stared.
The trap had changed.
Again.
But this time…
Vanessa was not trying to frame a housekeeper.
May you like
She was trying to destroy the rightful heir.
And everyone watched as the police moved toward Emily.
