Chapter 11: The Woman Who Knew Too Much

The room went completely silent.
Emily stared at her mother standing in the doorway.
Sarah.
The woman who had returned after fifteen years.
The woman who claimed she was trying to protect her.
The woman who had given her the key to this house.
And now…
The woman standing beside the person who revealed the biggest secret of all.
Eleanor Blackwood.
Emily felt betrayed all over again.
“Mom…”
Her voice was barely a whisper.
“Why are you here?”
Sarah looked at her daughter.
For a moment, Emily saw pain in her eyes.
Not guilt.
Not fear.
Pain.
But that was no longer enough.
Emily had spent years accepting pain from people who claimed they loved her.
“I followed you because I knew you would come here.”
Sarah stepped into the room.
Daniel immediately moved between them.
“Stay where you are.”
Sarah looked at him.
“You still don’t trust me.”
Daniel’s expression remained cold.
“Should I?”
The question hurt.
But Sarah did not argue.
Because she knew why.
Nobody in this room trusted anyone anymore.
Too many secrets had been buried.
Too many people had lied.
Eleanor watched them quietly.
Then she spoke.
“This is exactly what Evelyn wanted.”
Emily looked at her.
“What?”
“To make everyone suspicious of each other.”
Eleanor walked toward the old fireplace.
“She never needed to destroy people directly.”
She touched the dusty surface.
“She simply created enough doubt that people destroyed each other.”
Emily looked at Sarah.
“Is that true?”
Sarah lowered her eyes.
“No.”
Emily’s expression tightened.
“But you still hid things.”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
Sarah looked at her.
“Because I was afraid.”
Emily shook her head.
“Everyone was afraid.”
Her voice became sharper.
“But I was the one who lost everything.”
Sarah closed her eyes.
“I know.”
“No.”
Emily stepped forward.
“You don’t know what it felt like.”
The memories returned.
Her father gone.
Her mother gone.
Her entire life collapsing.
“I was seventeen years old.”
Her voice trembled.
“I had no family. No money. No idea why everyone suddenly hated us.”
Sarah looked broken.
“I know.”
“You don’t.”
Emily wiped away a tear.
“Because you chose to leave.”
The words hurt.
But Sarah accepted them.
“Yes.”
A long silence followed.
Then Sarah whispered:
“I left because Evelyn found me.”
Everyone froze.
Daniel looked at her.
“What?”
Sarah looked at Eleanor.
“She knew I had the evidence.”
Emily stared.
“What evidence?”
Sarah slowly reached inside her coat.
She pulled out a small flash drive.
“I kept the original files.”
Daniel’s eyes widened.
“The financial records?”
Sarah nodded.
“And something else.”
“What?”
Sarah looked at Emily.
“Proof that Evelyn ordered your father’s death.”
The room became silent.
Emily looked at the flash drive.
After fifteen years.
After all the lies.
The truth was finally in front of her.
But she did not feel relieved.
She felt afraid.
Because every truth they uncovered seemed to open another door.
And behind every door was something worse.
They returned to the mansion before sunrise.
Nobody spoke during the drive.
Everyone was thinking.
Everyone was afraid.
The flash drive was placed on the table in Daniel’s office.
Daniel connected it to his computer.
The files appeared.
Hundreds of documents.
Emails.
Financial records.
Photographs.
Videos.
Emily watched the screen.
“This is everything?”
Sarah nodded.
“Everything your father collected.”
Daniel opened the first file.
His expression changed.
“What?”
Emily looked at him.
“What is it?”
Daniel turned the screen.
A list of payments.
Dates.
Names.
At the top was a company.
Blackwood Holdings.
But underneath…
A hidden account.
An account belonging to Evelyn Blackwood.
“She was controlling the money.”
Daniel continued reading.
“She moved funds through fake companies.”
Emily looked confused.
“But why?”
Eleanor answered quietly.
“Power.”
Everyone looked at her.
She continued.
“Evelyn never cared about the company itself.”
“Then what did she care about?”
“Control.”
Eleanor looked at the documents.
“She believed the Blackwood name belonged to her.”
Emily frowned.
“But Richard built the empire.”
Eleanor gave a sad smile.
“No.”
She looked at the mansion.
“Richard expanded it.”
“Then who started it?”
Eleanor looked at Emily.
“Your grandfather.”
Emily froze.
“My grandfather?”
“Yes.”
Daniel looked surprised.
“The Carter family?”
Eleanor nodded.
“Before Blackwood became a famous name, it was a partnership between two families.”
“Carter and Blackwood.”
Emily slowly understood.
Her family had never been outsiders.
They had always been part of this.
The reason they were targeted was not because they were weak.
It was because they knew too much.
Suddenly, the computer screen went black.
Daniel frowned.
“What happened?”
The files disappeared.
Then a message appeared.
A single sentence.
"Some truths should stay buried."
Emily felt cold.
Daniel immediately disconnected the computer.
“Someone accessed the system.”
“Can they erase everything?”
“No.”
He looked worried.
“But they know we found it.”
A sound came from outside.
A car.
Emily looked toward the window.
A black vehicle had stopped in front of the mansion.
Daniel moved quickly.
“Stay inside.”
But Emily followed.
“No.”
“Emily.”
“I’m tired of being protected from the truth.”
They walked toward the entrance.
The front door opened.
A man entered.
Everyone froze.
Because they knew him.
Alexander Blackwood.
The missing heir.
The person everyone had been searching for.
He looked older than the photographs.
Tired.
Scarred.
But alive.
Emily stared.
“You’re Alexander.”
He nodded.
“Yes.”
Daniel stepped forward.
“Why are you here?”
Alexander looked at Emily.
“Because Evelyn knows you found the evidence.”
Emily’s heart tightened.
“How?”
Alexander looked toward the window.
“Because she wanted you to find it.”
Everyone became confused.
“What?”
Alexander continued:
“This was never an accident.”
He looked at Emily.
“Your father’s clues. The letters. The documents.”
A pause.
“She left them for you.”
Emily frowned.
“Evelyn?”
Alexander nodded.
“She wanted you to uncover the truth.”
“Why would she do that?”
Alexander’s expression became serious.
“Because she wants something from you.”
Emily felt a chill.
“What?”
Alexander looked at her.
“The inheritance is not the real reason.”
Daniel asked:
“Then what is?”
Alexander answered:
“She needs you to unlock the final Blackwood secret.”
Emily stared.
“What secret?”
Alexander looked at Eleanor.
Then Sarah.
Then finally Emily.
“The truth about your birth.”
The room froze.
Emily’s face changed.
“My birth?”
Alexander nodded.
“Your father was not your only connection to the Blackwood family.”
Daniel frowned.
“What are you saying?”
Alexander looked directly at Emily.
“I’m saying…”
He paused.
“Your mother has never told you who your real father was.”
Emily turned toward Sarah.
The silence was enough.
Her mother looked away.
And for the first time…
May you like
Emily realized there was still one secret bigger than all the others.
The secret of who she truly was.
