Chapter 12: The Bloodline Nobody Knew

The silence after Alexander’s words was unbearable.

Nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

Emily stood in the center of the room, staring at her mother.

The woman who had raised her.

The woman who had protected her.

The woman who had disappeared.

And now…

The woman who was hiding the truth about her own birth.

“My real father?”

Emily finally whispered.

Sarah looked down.

That answer alone was enough.

A lifetime of memories suddenly felt uncertain.

Her father’s smile.

His voice.

The way he held her hand when she was young.

Everything she knew about herself was being pulled apart.

“No.”

Emily shook her head.

“That’s impossible.”

Sarah stepped forward.

“Emily…”

“No.”

Her voice became stronger.

“You don’t get to say my name like everything is normal.”

Sarah stopped.

Emily looked at Alexander.

“Tell me.”

Alexander remained silent.

“Tell me the truth.”

He glanced at Sarah.

Then Eleanor.

Then finally Emily.

“The man who raised you was Daniel Carter.”

Emily nodded.

“Yes.”

“He loved you.”

“I know.”

“He was your father in every way that mattered.”

Emily’s eyes filled with tears.

“Then why did you say he wasn’t my real father?”

Alexander took a breath.

“Because there was another connection.”

The room became still.

“Your biological father was…”

He paused.

“Richard Blackwood.”

Emily felt the world disappear.

“No.”

The word came out immediately.

Not because she understood.

Because she refused to.

“That’s not possible.”

Sarah closed her eyes.

“I’m sorry.”

Emily looked at her.

“You knew?”

Sarah nodded.

The pain on Emily’s face was impossible to hide.

“How long?”

“Since before you were born.”

Emily stepped back.

“You knew my whole life.”

“Yes.”

“And you let me believe…”

Her voice broke.

“You let me believe Daniel Carter was my father.”

Sarah cried silently.

“Because he was your father.”

Emily shook her head.

“But not by blood.”

“No.”

“Why?”

Sarah looked at Richard’s old photograph.

“Because Richard wanted to protect you.”

Emily laughed bitterly.

“Protect me?”

She pointed around the mansion.

“Everyone keeps using that word.”

Her voice trembled.

“But all I see is a life built on lies.”

Nobody responded.

Because nobody could deny it.

Alexander slowly explained.

Years before Emily was born, Richard and Sarah had a relationship.

A secret relationship.

Richard was already married to Eleanor.

Already building his empire.

Already trapped in a world of power and expectations.

“When Richard found out Sarah was pregnant, he wanted to leave everything behind.”

Emily stared.

“He wanted to leave Vanessa?”

Alexander nodded.

“But Evelyn stopped him.”

“Why?”

“Because Vanessa was her chosen heir.”

Eleanor looked away.

The pain in her expression revealed something.

“She believed power belonged to Vanessa.”

Alexander continued.

“Evelyn threatened everyone.”

“Richard.”

“Sarah.”

“Your father.”

Emily looked confused.

“My father?”

“Yes.”

Alexander looked at her.

“Daniel Carter knew.”

Emily froze.

“What?”

“He knew you were Richard’s daughter.”

The room became silent again.

Emily turned toward the empty space beside her.

Daniel.

The man who had been standing there moments ago.

“He knew?”

Alexander nodded.

“He promised Richard he would protect you.”

Emily’s chest tightened.

Another secret.

Another person who knew.

Another person who chose silence.

Daniel was not in the room.

He had left moments after Alexander revealed the truth.

Emily found him outside near the mansion garden.

He stood alone.

Looking at the trees.

“You knew.”

Daniel did not turn around.

“Yes.”

Emily stopped.

The simple answer hurt more than an excuse.

“How long?”

“Since I was eighteen.”

She stared at him.

“Eighteen?”

Daniel nodded.

“My father told me.”

“Your father?”

“Yes.”

“The same father who betrayed my family?”

Daniel closed his eyes.

“Yes.”

Emily felt anger rising.

“You all knew who I was.”

“Yes.”

“You all knew my father.”

“Yes.”

“You knew Richard was my biological father.”

“Yes.”

“And you still let me work here as a housekeeper?”

Daniel finally turned around.

His eyes were full of regret.

“I didn’t know you were here at first.”

“But when you found out?”

Silence.

Emily understood.

He had known.

“I was trying to find the right moment.”

She looked away.

“There is no right moment to tell someone their entire life is a lie.”

Daniel had no response.

Because she was right.

“I’m sorry.”

Emily looked at him.

“I don’t want another apology.”

She wiped away a tear.

“I want the truth.”

Daniel nodded.

“Then I’ll give you everything.”

They returned inside.

Daniel placed an old file on the table.

“This belonged to my father.”

Emily opened it.

Inside were letters between Daniel Carter and Richard Blackwood.

The first letter was dated before Emily’s birth.

Richard wrote:

"She must never know. If Evelyn discovers the child is alive, she will use her to destroy everyone."

Emily read the words carefully.

Her hands trembled.

Another letter followed.

"My daughter deserves a life away from this family."

The word hit her.

My daughter.

Richard had written it.

Emily closed her eyes.

She had spent years believing she was nobody.

A forgotten person.

A girl without importance.

But the truth was the opposite.

She had been hidden because she mattered too much.

Suddenly, the mansion alarm sounded.

Everyone turned.

Daniel immediately moved toward the security monitor.

The screen showed the front gate.

A woman standing outside.

Older.

Elegant.

Calm.

Emily recognized her from photographs.

Evelyn Blackwood.

The woman who controlled everything.

The woman everyone feared.

“She came here herself,” Alexander whispered.

Daniel looked shocked.

“That means she’s done hiding.”

The front door opened.

Evelyn entered.

No guards.

No fear.

Just confidence.

She looked around the mansion.

Then her eyes landed on Emily.

For a moment, nobody spoke.

Then Evelyn smiled.

“So.”

Her voice was calm.

“Richard’s daughter finally knows the truth.”

Emily stared at her.

“You destroyed my family.”

Evelyn tilted her head.

“No.”

She walked closer.

“Your family destroyed itself.”

Daniel stepped forward.

“Leave.”

Evelyn ignored him.

She looked at Emily.

“You think I am your enemy.”

Emily answered:

“You are.”

Evelyn smiled.

“Maybe.”

A strange calmness filled her voice.

“But I am also the only person who can tell you why your father really died.”

Emily froze.

Everyone became silent.

Evelyn continued.

“Because the truth is…”

She looked directly at Emily.

“Your father was not killed because he discovered my secrets.”

A pause.

“He was killed because he discovered yours.”

Emily felt cold.

“My secrets?”

Evelyn nodded.

“The truth about your bloodline.”

She stepped closer.

“You are not just Richard Blackwood’s daughter.”

Emily stared.

“Then what am I?”

Evelyn smiled.

A smile that carried decades of hidden plans.

“You are the last person who can destroy the Blackwood empire.”

The room became silent.

And Emily finally understood.

The reason everyone had fought over her.

The reason everyone had lied.

The reason her father died.

It was never about money.

It was never about inheritance.

May you like

It was about what Emily represented.

The end of the Blackwood family’s control.
