Chapter 9: The True Mastermind

The mansion froze.
Not a single person moved.
Victor Hale lay on the floor, one hand pressed against his wound.
The man who had spent twenty years controlling everyone like pieces on a chessboard was finally on the ground.
Defeated.
Or at least...
that was what everyone thought.
Until the stranger spoke.
“Victor was never the mastermind.”
The voice was calm.
Confident.
Almost bored.
“I was.”
The figure stepped forward.
The emergency lights revealed his face.
And everyone felt the same confusion.
Nobody recognized him.
Nobody except one person.
Veronika.
Her face slowly lost all color.
“No…”
Richard looked at her.
“Who is he?”
Veronika could not answer.
Because she was staring at a ghost.
A ghost from a part of her life she had buried long ago.
The man standing before them was not a billionaire.
Not a businessman.
Not a criminal they had heard about.
He was someone much more dangerous.
Someone invisible.
Someone who had been forgotten.
“Adrian.”
The name finally left Veronika’s lips.
The stranger smiled.
“After all these years…”
He looked at her.
“You still remember me.”
Twenty-five years ago.
Before Veronika became a global icon.
Before Valenti Global became a symbol of power.
There was another company.
A smaller one.
A company built by three young dreamers.
Veronika.
Victor.
And Adrian Vale.
Adrian was the strategist.
The person who saw opportunities before anyone else.
Victor was the negotiator.
The person who could convince anyone.
Veronika was the creator.
The person who could turn impossible ideas into reality.
Together, they were unstoppable.
Until success changed them.
Victor wanted control.
Adrian wanted recognition.
And Veronika wanted independence.
Eventually, Veronika chose to remove both men from her company.
Victor lost his position.
Adrian disappeared.
Everyone thought he failed.
But they were wrong.
Adrian did not fail.
He evolved.
While Veronika built an empire visible to the world...
Adrian built one hidden beneath it.
A network.
Information.
Influence.
Connections.
He became the person powerful people called when they needed problems solved quietly.
And now...
he had returned.
“You.”
Veronika stared at him.
“You created all of this?”
Adrian smiled.
“Not all.”
He looked around.
“I simply created the environment.”
Everyone listened.
Because the truth was finally coming out.
“Victor wanted revenge.”
Adrian pointed toward him.
“So I gave him the opportunity.”
“Damian wanted your company.”
He looked at Damian.
“So I gave him a path.”
“Alex wanted a wealthy wife.”
His eyes moved toward Alex.
“So I gave him temptation.”
Alex clenched his fists.
“You ruined my life.”
Adrian laughed softly.
“No.”
“You ruined your own life.”
The words were cruel.
But true.
“You saw Veronika’s money.”
“You saw an easy future.”
“You never cared who gave you the opportunity.”
Alex looked away.
Because he knew.
Isabella stepped forward.
“Why?”
Everyone looked at her.
“Why did you do this?”
Adrian looked at her.
For the first time, his expression changed.
Almost sadness.
“Because your mother took everything from me.”
Veronika frowned.
“I took nothing from you.”
Adrian smiled.
“That is what makes you dangerous.”
“You always believe you are innocent.”
The room became tense.
“You remember the company.”
“You remember the money.”
“You remember the victories.”
He stepped closer.
“But you forgot the people who lost everything while you climbed higher.”
Veronika’s voice hardened.
“You’re talking about revenge.”
“No.”
Adrian shook his head.
“Revenge is emotional.”
His eyes became cold.
“This is correction.”
Richard looked at the documents Damian had brought.
Then he noticed something.
A signature.
A familiar signature.
His face changed.
“Wait.”
Everyone looked at him.
“This acquisition agreement…”
He picked it up.
“This was prepared years ago.”
Veronika moved closer.
“What?”
Richard examined the document carefully.
“The dates.”
He looked terrified.
“This wasn’t created after your accident.”
A pause.
“This was created before Alex met you.”
Silence.
Alex stared.
“What?”
Richard looked at Veronika.
“The helicopter incident was never the beginning.”
His voice became quiet.
“It was the final step.”
Everyone understood.
The murder attempt was not the plan.
It was only the trigger.
The real plan had started years earlier.
Adrian walked toward the window.
Outside, the storm continued.
“I spent twenty years preparing.”
He looked at Veronika.
“I knew killing you would be too simple.”
She stared at him.
“So you wanted to destroy me.”
“No.”
He turned around.
“I wanted you alive.”
That shocked everyone.
“What?”
Adrian smiled.
“A dead Veronika would become a legend.”
“And legends inspire people.”
He looked around.
“But a living Veronika…”
A pause.
“Broken.”
His voice became colder.
“That was the goal.”
Suddenly, Victor laughed weakly from the floor.
Everyone looked at him.
“You idiot.”
Adrian turned.
Victor smiled despite the pain.
“You think you won?”
Adrian frowned.
Victor slowly reached into his pocket.
Everyone tensed.
But instead of a weapon...
he pulled out a small device.
A recording device.
“I knew you would betray me.”
Adrian’s expression changed.
For the first time...
uncertainty.
Victor pressed a button.
A voice played.
Adrian’s own voice.
A recording.
A conversation from months earlier.
“We don’t need Veronika dead. We need her reputation destroyed.”
Adrian’s voice.
Clear.
Perfect.
Another voice answered.
Victor.
“So after she loses everything?”
Adrian responded:
“She will disappear.”
The recording ended.
Everyone looked at Adrian.
Victor smiled.
“You forgot one thing.”
Adrian’s face darkened.
“What?”
Victor coughed.
“I learned from you.”
Then another sound came.
A notification.
Every phone in the room received the same message.
Richard checked his.
His face turned white.
“What?”
Veronika looked at him.
“What happened?”
Richard showed the screen.
A live broadcast.
Across the internet.
A video was already playing.
The title:
THE TRUTH ABOUT VERONIKA VALENTI
Alex stepped closer.
“No…”
Because the video showed everything.
The helicopter.
The attack.
The secret meetings.
The documents.
Every person involved.
But there was one problem.
The video did not reveal Adrian.
It revealed only one person.
Veronika.
The world was watching.
And the story had been edited to make her look like the villain.
Adrian smiled.
“Now you understand.”
Veronika looked at the screen.
Millions of people were seeing a lie.
A carefully designed lie.
Adrian stepped closer.
“You spent your life building an empire.”
He whispered:
“Now watch me destroy your name.”
The screen continued broadcasting.
And then a final message appeared:
VERONIKA VALENTI: THE WOMAN WHO BUILT AN EMPIRE ON BLOOD.

The war had just begun.
