Chapter 6: The Daughter Who Was Never Supposed To Return

The word echoed through the mansion.

“Mother.”

One word.

But it carried twenty years of pain.

Veronika stood frozen.

Her mind refused to understand what her eyes were seeing.

The woman standing in the hallway looked nothing like the child she remembered.

She was older now.

Stronger.

A stranger wearing a familiar face.

But there was one thing Veronika recognized immediately.

The eyes.

Those eyes belonged to someone she had loved more than anything in the world.

Before money.

Before power.

Before the empire.

Before everything.

“Isabella…”

The name escaped her lips.

The woman smiled slightly.

“So you remember.”

Veronika’s breathing became unsteady.

“No.”

A whisper.

A denial.

“This is impossible.”

Isabella stepped closer.

“You spent twenty years telling yourself I was gone.”

Her voice was calm.

“But you never stopped looking.”

Richard looked between them.

“Veronika…”

She raised her hand.

Stopping him.

Because she needed to hear this.

She needed to know if this was real.

“Where have you been?”

Isabella’s smile disappeared.

A colder expression replaced it.

“Everywhere you weren’t looking.”

Twenty years ago.

Before Veronika became the woman everyone feared.

Before Valenti Global reached the top.

There was another life.

A normal life.

A life nobody knew about.

Veronika had a daughter.

Isabella.

She was the one person who made Veronika believe she could have everything.

A family.

A career.

A future.

But then came the betrayal.

Victor Hale.

Back then, Victor was not just her business partner.

He was the person closest to her.

He knew everything.

Her plans.

Her weaknesses.

Her fears.

Including Isabella.

When Veronika discovered Victor’s betrayal, she thought the worst was over.

She was wrong.

Because one night, Isabella disappeared.

A car accident was reported.

The vehicle was found.

The evidence suggested there were no survivors.

Veronika searched for months.

Years.

She spent millions trying to find answers.

But nothing.

No body.

No proof.

Only silence.

Eventually, the world believed Isabella was dead.

And Veronika forced herself to accept it.

But deep inside...

she never did.

Now Isabella stood in front of her.

Alive.

And angry.

“You knew.”

Veronika looked confused.

“Knew what?”

“That I survived.”

“No.”

Isabella laughed.

A painful laugh.

“That’s the problem.”

She walked toward the table.

“You never knew anything.”

Her eyes moved around the mansion.

“This house.”

“These people.”

“This empire.”

“You spent twenty years protecting everything except the thing you should have protected most.”

Veronika looked hurt.

“I searched for you.”

Isabella looked at her.

“No.”

The word was sharp.

“You searched for the idea of me.”

Silence.

“You wanted to believe you were a victim.”

Veronika’s face changed.

“Isabella…”

“But you were not the only one who lost something.”

Her voice cracked slightly.

“I lost my mother.”

Nobody spoke.

Even Alex looked uncomfortable.

Because for the first time, he saw Veronika as something other than a billionaire.

He saw a woman who had spent decades carrying a wound nobody could see.

Richard stepped forward.

“How are you connected to Victor Hale?”

Isabella looked at him.

“I’m not.”

Everyone became confused.

“But you know about him.”

“Yes.”

“How?”

Isabella looked toward Veronika.

“Because Victor was the person who saved me.”

The room became silent.

Veronika stared at her.

“What?”

Isabella continued.

“After the accident, I was alive.”

Her voice became colder.

“But someone made sure you believed I was dead.”

Veronika’s face slowly changed.

“No…”

“Yes.”

Isabella looked directly at her.

“Victor Hale.”

Alex shook his head.

“That makes no sense.”

Isabella turned toward him.

“You think everything makes sense?”

Her eyes narrowed.

“You were willing to murder a woman you pretended to love for money.”

Alex looked away.

Isabella continued.

“People do terrible things when someone gives them the right reason.”

Then she revealed the truth.

Victor had not kidnapped Isabella.

He had rescued her.

At least, that was what he claimed.

After the accident, he took her away.

He gave her a new identity.

A new life.

He told her the truth about Veronika.

Or at least, his version of it.

He told Isabella that her mother abandoned her.

That Veronika chose her empire over her daughter.

That money mattered more than family.

For twenty years, Isabella believed that story.

Until she discovered something.

Victor had lied.

Not about everything.

But enough.

She found documents.

Hidden recordings.

Evidence.

She discovered Victor was not protecting her.

He was using her.

Just like he used Alex.

Just like he used Damian.

Everyone was a piece on his chessboard.

Including her.

“So you came here to help us?”

Richard asked.

Isabella looked at him.

“No.”

Everyone froze.

“Then why?”

She turned toward Veronika.

“Because I want answers.”

Her voice became quiet.

“I want to know why my mother chose an empire over me.”

Veronika looked devastated.

“I never chose that.”

“Then prove it.”

The challenge hung in the air.

Suddenly, Alex’s phone rang.

Everyone turned.

He looked at the screen.

Unknown number.

Again.

Nobody moved.

“Answer it,” Veronika said.

Alex hesitated.

Then pressed the button.

A familiar voice came through.

Victor Hale.

“Beautiful reunion.”

Everyone froze.

Victor laughed.

“I must admit, Isabella, you exceeded my expectations.”

Isabella’s face changed.

“You knew I was here.”

“Of course.”

Victor sounded amused.

“I knew where you were every second.”

Alex looked terrified.

“How?”

Victor ignored him.

“Veronika, do you understand now?”

Silence.

“You spent years building walls around yourself.”

A pause.

“But you never noticed the person standing inside those walls.”

Veronika looked around.

“What are you talking about?”

Victor answered:

“The person who has been protecting you.”

The lights suddenly flickered.

Richard checked the security monitors.

His face changed.

“What?”

Veronika looked at him.

“What is it?”

Richard slowly turned the screen around.

A live camera feed appeared.

It showed the underground security room.

The place where they were standing.

Except...

The camera was not supposed to exist.

Someone had installed it recently.

Someone had been watching them.

Victor continued through the phone:

“You keep searching for enemies outside.”

His voice became colder.

“But the person destroying you has been beside you for years.”

Everyone looked at each other.

Fear spread through the room.

Then Victor said one final sentence:

“Ask Richard where he was the night Isabella disappeared.”

The call ended.

Silence.

Every eye turned toward Richard.

The lawyer who had stood beside Veronika for twenty years.

The man she trusted more than anyone.

Richard’s face became pale.

Because he knew.

The secret he buried for two decades...

had finally been found.

Veronika whispered:

“Richard?”

He said nothing.

May you like

And that silence was an answer.
