Chapter 13: The Mother Behind The Monster

The video ended.

But nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

The woman on the screen was gone.

Yet her presence remained.

Like a shadow that had entered the room and refused to leave.

Daniel stood frozen.

For the first time since arriving at the mansion, he looked afraid.

Not angry.

Not confident.

Afraid.

Veronika noticed immediately.

She had seen Daniel’s anger.

She had seen his hatred.

But this was different.

This was fear from a wound that had never healed.

“Daniel.”

He did not answer.

“Who was she?”

Daniel looked at the black screen.

His voice was barely audible.

“My mother.”

The room went silent.

Isabella looked confused.

“But I thought…”

Daniel interrupted.

“Everyone thought she was dead.”

A pause.

“So did I.”

Her name was Sophia Valenti.

Before Veronika.

Before Victor.

Before the empire.

There was Sophia.

The woman who gave birth to Daniel.

The woman who disappeared from history.

The woman everyone believed died in the same tragedy that destroyed the Valenti family.

But the truth was much darker.

Sophia had never died.

She had vanished.

And someone had made sure nobody searched too deeply.

Daniel sat down.

The confidence he had carried disappeared.

“I spent twenty years believing Victor destroyed my life.”

He looked at Veronika.

“I believed he took me away from my family.”

A pause.

“But I was wrong.”

Veronika stepped closer.

“Daniel…”

He shook his head.

“No.”

His voice became bitter.

“You need to hear this.”

Everyone remained silent.

“Victor did not save me.”

“He did not kidnap me.”

“He was only following orders.”

Richard’s face changed.

“Orders from who?”

Daniel looked toward the screen.

“My mother.”

The truth began twenty years earlier.

After Isabella’s disappearance.

After Daniel’s own disappearance.

After Veronika’s family collapsed.

Sophia appeared.

She was not a victim.

She was a strategist.

She had watched Veronika build an empire.

She watched her become powerful.

And she hated what Veronika became.

Not because of money.

Not because of success.

Because Sophia believed Veronika destroyed the family they were supposed to have.

She believed Veronika chose ambition over love.

So she created a plan.

A plan to take away everything Veronika valued.

Her children.

Her reputation.

Her empire.

Her identity.

Victor was only a soldier.

Adrian was only a strategist.

Damian was only a businessman.

Alex was only a weapon.

But Sophia...

Sophia was the person who started the war.

Veronika looked at Daniel.

“You knew?”

Daniel nodded.

“I found out five years ago.”

“Then why didn’t you tell me?”

Daniel laughed softly.

“Because I hated you.”

The honesty hurt.

“I wanted to believe she was right.”

He looked down.

“I wanted to believe you were the reason my life was destroyed.”

Veronika said nothing.

Because deep inside...

she understood.

Daniel had been a child.

A child manipulated by adults.

Just like Isabella.

Just like Alex.

Everyone in this room had been shaped by someone else’s choices.

Suddenly, Alex spoke.

“So Sophia created everything?”

Daniel looked at him.

“Yes.”

Alex frowned.

“Then why involve me?”

Daniel looked at him.

“Because Sophia knew something.”

“What?”

“You were perfect.”

Alex looked offended.

“Perfect?”

Daniel nodded.

“You wanted love.”

“You wanted money.”

“You wanted a new identity.”

He looked at him.

“You were someone who could be convinced.”

The words hurt because they were true.

Then Veronika asked the question everyone feared.

“Where is she now?”

Nobody answered.

Until the mansion speakers activated.

A woman’s voice filled the room.

“You don’t need to search.”

Everyone froze.

Because they knew.

Sophia.

She was there.

Somewhere.

Watching.

“Hello, Veronika.”

The voice was calm.

Almost gentle.

“I waited a long time for this moment.”

Veronika looked around.

“Show yourself.”

A soft laugh.

“You still give orders.”

A pause.

“Even now.”

The screens turned on.

A live camera appeared.

The image showed Sophia sitting in a luxurious room.

Older.

Elegant.

Calm.

She looked nothing like a villain.

And that made her more dangerous.

“Twenty years.”

Sophia smiled.

“Twenty years watching you pretend you lost everything because of bad luck.”

Veronika’s eyes hardened.

“You destroyed my family.”

Sophia shook her head.

“No.”

“I showed you what was already broken.”

Isabella stepped forward.

“You stole my life.”

Sophia looked at her.

“Did I?”

A cold smile.

“Your mother did.”

Isabella froze.

Sophia continued.

“She was always chasing something.”

“More money.”

“More power.”

“More success.”

“And you?”

She smiled.

“You were always waiting.”

Veronika closed her eyes.

Because those words touched an old wound.

Then Sophia revealed the final secret.

“The truth is…”

She looked directly at Veronika.

“I never wanted your empire.”

Everyone became confused.

“Then what?”

Sophia smiled.

“I wanted your choice.”

Silence.

“What choice?”

Sophia leaned closer to the camera.

“The choice you made twenty-eight years ago.”

Veronika’s expression changed.

Because she knew exactly what Sophia meant.

A choice nobody knew.

A choice she had buried.

A choice involving Daniel.

Isabella.

And the reason her family was destroyed.

Sophia continued:

“You had two children.”

A pause.

“And you chose one.”

The room froze.

Isabella looked at Veronika.

Daniel looked at her.

Even Alex looked shocked.

“No…”

Veronika whispered.

Sophia smiled.

“Yes.”

“The world thinks your children were taken from you.”

“But the truth is…”

The screen flickered.

“And now everyone will know what you did.”

The video ended.

Nobody spoke.

Because for the first time...

even Veronika looked afraid.

Not of Sophia.

Not of losing her empire.

But of the truth coming out.

Daniel stared at her.

“Mother.”

His voice was broken.

“What did you choose?”

Veronika looked at her children.

And finally whispered:

“The child I saved…”

A pause.

“Was not the child who needed saving.”

The room went silent.

Because the biggest secret of Veronika Valenti’s life...

May you like

had finally begun to open.

End of Chapter 13
