Chapter 8: The Child They Wanted

The words hung in the air.

"Your child isn't just my problem."

Nobody moved.

The mechanical room, once filled with alarms and explosions, suddenly felt colder than the winter streets outside.

Julian stared at Adrian.

"What did you say?"

Adrian looked toward Elena.

Not with hatred.

Not even anger.

With calculation.

And that terrified Julian more than anything.

"What does my child have to do with any of this?"

Adrian remained silent.

Marco stepped forward.

"You've lost your advantage, Keller."

He raised his weapon slightly.

"Start talking."

Adrian laughed quietly.

"You still don't understand."

"You're surrounded."

"No."

Adrian looked around.

"Julian is surrounded."

Everyone froze.

Julian narrowed his eyes.

"What does that mean?"

Adrian smiled.

"Your entire empire was built on a foundation you never questioned."

"Your father."

"Your grandfather."

"The Rossi name."

He walked slowly around the room.

"You believed the company belonged to your family."

"It doesn't."

Julian's expression hardened.

"What are you talking about?"

Adrian looked at Victoria.

"Tell him."

Victoria remained silent.

Julian turned.

"Mother."

She didn't answer.

"Tell me."

Still nothing.

His voice became sharper.

"Tell me!"

Victoria finally spoke.

Quietly.

"The Rossi empire has a hidden ownership structure."

Julian stared.

"What?"

"Years ago, your grandfather created a private trust."

"For protection."

"Protection from what?"

Victoria looked uncomfortable.

"From enemies."

Julian laughed bitterly.

"So now we're back to another secret?"

"The trust controls certain assets."

"How many?"

Victoria hesitated.

"Enough."

"Enough for what?"

She looked at Elena.

"For whoever controls the next heir."

The room became silent.

Julian slowly looked down at Elena's stomach.

"No."

Elena's face was pale.

She already knew.

Julian looked at her.

"You knew?"

She nodded slightly.

"Not everything."

"But you knew there was something."

Elena whispered,

"Yes."

Eight months earlier...

When Elena discovered Adrian's documents, she found another file.

Not about money.

Not about the company.

About the Rossi family bloodline.

A confidential document created decades ago.

It contained one condition.

The Rossi family trust would transfer full control only when the next direct heir was born.

The child.

Julian's child.

Elena's child.

Adrian wasn't trying to destroy their marriage.

He was trying to control their future.

Julian looked horrified.

"He wanted our baby?"

Victoria answered.

"Yes."

"Why?"

"Because if something happened to you..."

She stopped.

Julian understood.

His blood ran cold.

"If something happened to me..."

"The legal guardian of the heir would temporarily control the assets."

"And Adrian arranged that guardian."

Victoria nodded.

"Through the board."

Adrian applauded slowly.

"Finally."

"Everyone understands."

Julian looked at him with disgust.

"You planned all this because of an inheritance?"

Adrian shook his head.

"No."

"Because of power."

"There is a difference."

"You think billions make people important."

Adrian smiled.

"They do."

"No."

Julian stepped closer.

"They only reveal what people already are."

For the first time...

Adrian looked angry.

Elena suddenly grabbed Julian's arm.

"Julian."

Her voice changed.

Something was wrong.

He immediately turned.

"What?"

She was breathing heavily.

Another contraction.

But this time...

Stronger.

Much stronger.

Victoria noticed.

"The baby is coming."

Julian's face went pale.

"No."

Elena looked at him.

"Julian..."

"I know."

He held her hand.

"I know."

Marco quickly moved into action.

"We need medical help."

One of his team members checked the communication device.

"Signal is blocked."

"Can you override it?"

"Trying."

Another operator rushed in.

"Commander!"

Everyone turned.

"The lower floors are compromised."

Marco frowned.

"By who?"

The soldier hesitated.

"Someone else."

"What do you mean?"

"There are two groups inside the hotel."

Silence.

Marco's eyes narrowed.

"Adrian's men?"

"No."

"Then who?"

The soldier looked toward Julian.

"Someone claiming to represent the Rossi family."

Victoria's expression changed.

Impossible.

"That cannot be."

A voice suddenly came through the abandoned speaker system.

Clear.

Calm.

Older.

"Actually, Victoria..."

Everyone looked upward.

The voice continued.

"You should have known this day would come."

Victoria went completely still.

Julian noticed.

"Who is that?"

She didn't answer.

The voice continued.

"Julian Rossi."

"I have waited thirty-eight years to speak with you."

A pause.

"My name is Lorenzo Rossi."

Julian frowned.

The name meant nothing.

But Victoria's reaction meant everything.

She looked like she had seen a ghost.

"Father..."

The entire room froze.

Julian whispered:

"My grandfather?"

The speaker crackled.

"Yes."

A voice from the past.

A man everyone believed was dead.

"Your grandfather."

Julian looked at Victoria.

"You told me he died."

Victoria couldn't speak.

The speaker continued.

"I did not die."

"I disappeared."

"Because I discovered the betrayal inside my own family."

Adrian suddenly looked uncomfortable.

Julian noticed.

"You know him."

Adrian didn't answer.

That was enough.

Lorenzo's voice continued.

"The Rossi empire was never supposed to belong to one person."

"It was created to protect the family."

"But greed corrupted it."

Julian looked around.

Everyone had secrets.

Everyone had hidden pieces.

Everyone had been playing a game he never knew existed.

Then Lorenzo said the words that changed everything.

"The child Elena carries is not only the next Rossi heir."

A pause.

"The child is the only person who can expose the truth about what happened thirty years ago."

Julian stared.

"What truth?"

No answer.

Only static.

Then...

The speaker came alive one final time.

"Julian..."

"Do not trust your mother."

"Do not trust Adrian."

"And most importantly..."

The voice became darker.

"Do not trust the woman carrying your child."

Elena's face turned white.

Julian slowly looked at her.

His heart broke.

Not because he believed it.

But because once again...

Someone had planted a seed of doubt.

And this time...

May you like

The seed was aimed at the person he had fought hardest to find.
