She Thought She Could Never Walk... Until One Stranger Asked a Single Question

"Please... stop."

The little girl's voice barely rose above the hiss of the garden hose.

She sat trembling in her wheelchair, drenched from head to toe. Her soaked blue shirt clung to her body. Tears mixed with the water streaming down her face as she gripped the armrests, struggling to hold back her sobs.

A woman stood nearby, calmly spraying her.

"She needed cleaning."

A black SUV screeched to the curb.

"Turn it off!"

A man in a black suit stormed over, ripped the hose from her hands, and threw the stream aside.

He stared at the woman in disbelief.

"Did you really just say that?"

Then he knelt before the terrified girl.

His voice became gentle.

"It's okay. I'm here now."

The girl looked at him through tear-filled eyes, her breathing ragged.

Slowly, she pushed against the armrests.

She stood.

Her legs shook violently. Her wet sneakers slipped on the pavement.

The man froze.

"You... can walk?"

The girl stared at her own feet as if seeing them for the first time.

"I... I didn't know."

The hose slipped from the woman's hand and crashed onto the driveway.

Silence.

Then the man whispered,

"If you can stand... who convinced you that you couldn't?"
