CHAPTER 2: THE HIDDEN CLAUSE IN THE BILLIONAIRE'S FATHER'S WILL

The ballroom remained frozen.
Hundreds of powerful people stood silently, watching the scene unfold.
They had come expecting champagne, business conversations, and carefully staged photographs.
Instead, they witnessed the destruction of a marriage.
The wife of Alexander Blackwood had just been publicly abandoned.
And yet...
Emily Carter was smiling.
That was the one thing nobody understood.
For the past ten minutes, everyone had been waiting for her to cry.
To scream.
To beg Alexander not to leave her.
But Emily did none of those things.
She simply stood there.
Calm.
Silent.
Almost peaceful.
And that terrified Alexander more than anger ever could.
Because he knew Emily.
Or at least, he thought he did.
For years, he had believed she was gentle because she was weak.
He believed her kindness was proof that she could never fight back.
He believed the woman who always forgave him would always forgive him.
But now, standing beneath the crystal lights of the Royal Astoria ballroom, Alexander felt something he hadn't felt in years.
Doubt.
"What exactly is that supposed to mean?"
Victoria's voice cut through the silence.
She stared at Emily.
Her confidence had not disappeared completely.
But something had changed.
Because for the first time tonight...
Emily was not afraid of her.
Emily looked at the divorce papers in Alexander's hand.
Then she looked at the hundreds of guests watching.
"Interesting."
Her voice was soft.
"Alexander planned an entire performance."
A few guests exchanged confused looks.
Emily continued.
"The divorce papers."
She pointed toward the document.
"The public humiliation."
"Bringing Victoria here."
Her eyes moved toward the woman in the red dress.
"Everything was carefully arranged."
Alexander's expression hardened.
"Be careful, Emily."
"Careful?"
She laughed quietly.
"No, Alexander."
"You should have been careful."
The room became colder.
Alexander stepped closer.
"You seem to forget who you're speaking to."
Emily looked at him.
And for the first time in their marriage...
She didn't look at him like her husband.
She looked at him like an opponent.
"I remember exactly who I'm speaking to."
"The man who stood there and watched his pregnant wife get humiliated because he thought she had nowhere to go."
Alexander's jaw tightened.
A few people lowered their eyes.
Because even in a world full of ruthless businessmen, abandoning a pregnant wife in public was difficult to justify.
Victoria immediately stepped in.
"Don't make this emotional, Emily."
Emily turned toward her.
"Emotional?"
Victoria smiled.
"You are upset because you are losing."
That sentence made Emily pause.
Then she said:
"No."
"I'm upset because I finally understand."
"Understand what?"
"That I wasted years protecting someone who was already planning my downfall."
The words hit Alexander harder than he expected.
Because they were true.
He had planned this night for months.
Not because he wanted a divorce.
Because he wanted control.
Emily's father, Richard Carter, had built one of the largest private investment networks in the country.
After his death fifteen years ago, the Carter family fortune had almost disappeared from public view.
Most people believed the company collapsed.
They were wrong.
Richard Carter had hidden everything.
The assets.
The investments.
The ownership rights.
All of it.
And Alexander knew there was something.
That was why he married Emily.
At least...
That was why he had originally approached her.
But he never expected to actually fall in love.
And that had been his mistake.
For a few years, he forgot the reason he entered her life.
Until ambition returned.
Until he realized that Emily's father's hidden assets could make him more powerful than anyone in the world.
The only problem?
Emily didn't know where they were.
Or at least...
That was what Alexander believed.
"Let's end this tonight."
Alexander's voice became colder.
"Tomorrow morning, lawyers will contact you."
Emily smiled.
"Tomorrow morning?"
She looked around.
"No."
"Tonight."
Alexander frowned.
"What?"
Emily reached into her purse.
She removed a small black envelope.
Immediately, Alexander's face changed.
Because he recognized it.
A Carter family seal.
A symbol he had not seen in years.
Victoria noticed his reaction.
"Alexander?"
He didn't answer.
Emily held the envelope in her hand.
"This belonged to my father."
The room became silent again.
Everyone knew the Carter name.
Richard Carter had been one of the most brilliant investors of his generation.
A man who disappeared from the public eye before his death.
A man whose final years remained a mystery.
Emily looked at Alexander.
"My father always said something interesting."
She opened the envelope.
"He said the most dangerous person in a negotiation is not the person with the most money."
She removed a document.
"It's the person everyone underestimates."
Alexander's face darkened.
"Emily."
The warning in his voice was clear.
But she ignored him.
"Fifteen years ago, before my father died, he created a legal protection agreement."
A few guests leaned closer.
Emily continued.
"An agreement that would activate if anyone attempted to take control of Carter family assets through marriage, manipulation, or forced separation."
Victoria's confident expression slowly disappeared.
"What are you talking about?"
Emily looked at her.
"I'm talking about the fact that Alexander's entire expansion strategy was built on something he never owned."
Silence.
Absolute silence.
Alexander stepped forward.
"That's impossible."
Emily looked directly at him.
"Is it?"
She lifted the document.
"The Carter Trust."
The name alone changed the atmosphere.
Several older businessmen in the room immediately recognized it.
One of them whispered:
"No..."
Another looked shocked.
"The Carter Trust still exists?"
Emily continued.
"My father knew that people would come after his fortune."
"He knew someone would try to use me."
Her eyes locked onto Alexander.
"So he created a condition."
Alexander's expression became serious.
"What condition?"
Emily smiled.
"The person who controls the Carter Trust must be someone who proves they married Emily Carter out of genuine loyalty."
Victoria's face went pale.
Because suddenly...
Everyone understood.
Emily was not just revealing money.
She was revealing a trap.
A trap Alexander had walked into years ago.
Alexander laughed.
A forced laugh.
"You expect people to believe this?"
Emily calmly handed the document to a nearby lawyer.
"Read it."
The lawyer hesitated.
Then he took the papers.
His eyes moved across the page.
At first, nothing changed.
Then...
His face slowly lost color.
Everyone noticed.
"What does it say?"
Someone asked.
The lawyer looked up.
His voice was quiet.
"The clause is valid."
The ballroom erupted with whispers.
Alexander stared.
"No."
The lawyer continued.
"And according to this document..."
He looked at Emily.
"Mrs. Carter remains the primary controlling beneficiary of the Carter Trust."
Emily corrected him.
"Not Mrs. Blackwood."
She looked at Alexander.
"Emily Carter."
The words echoed.
Alexander's billion-dollar empire suddenly felt much smaller.
Because if the Carter Trust controlled what Emily claimed...
Then his entire company structure was built on a foundation that could collapse overnight.
Victoria stepped back.
For the first time...
She looked afraid.
"Alexander..."
But he wasn't listening.
He was staring at Emily.
The woman he thought he had defeated.
The woman he thought was powerless.
Now standing in front of him with the one weapon he could never fight against.
Power.
Emily folded the document.
Then she whispered:
"You spent months planning how to destroy me."
A pause.
"Now you have the rest of your life to wonder how I will destroy you."
Alexander's eyes narrowed.
But behind the anger...
There was something else.
Fear.
Because he finally understood.
The divorce was not the beginning of Emily losing everything.
It was the moment she gained the power to take everything from him.
And somewhere outside the ballroom...
A phone rang.
A mysterious man answered.
"Is it done?"
The voice on the other end replied:
"Yes."
A pause.
"Emily Carter knows the truth."
The man smiled.
"Good."
"Then phase one has officially begun."
May you like
Because Alexander Blackwood wasn't the only person hiding secrets.
And Emily was about to discover that the betrayal of her husband was only the first move in a much bigger game.
