CHAPTER 15 – The Truth That Survived Death

The church became completely silent.

Nobody understood.

Nobody could explain it.

A dead body.

A woman standing alive.

The same name.

The same identity.

The same impossible contradiction.

Ruiz lowered his phone slowly.

"The forensic team confirmed it."

His voice was quiet.

"The body belongs to Isabella Carter."

Everyone turned toward the woman standing beside Elena.

Isabella.

Alive.

Breathing.

Watching.

Elena stared at her mother.

For the first time...

She wasn't looking at her with anger.

She wasn't looking at her with sadness.

She was looking at her with fear.

"Who are you?"

The question hurt more than any accusation.

Isabella's face collapsed.

"Elena..."

"No."

Her voice trembled.

"Please."

A pause.

"I need the truth."

Isabella closed her eyes.

After twenty-eight years...

The final lie was finally breaking.

"My name is Isabella Carter."

Everyone waited.

"But..."

She looked at the three daughters.

"I died twenty-eight years ago."

Nobody moved.

Lydia whispered:

"What?"

Isabella continued.

"The woman buried under my name was me."

Elena's expression changed.

"That makes no sense."

Isabella nodded.

"I know."

She touched her face.

"I spent my entire life running from a truth I created myself."

Years earlier...

A young Isabella stood in a hospital room.

She had just given birth.

Three babies.

Three daughters.

But Alexander wasn't the only threat.

Someone else had been watching.

Someone who wanted the Howard inheritance.

Someone who wanted the children.

Richard Cross.

He had discovered the existence of the heirs.

And he wanted control.

Isabella knew she couldn't protect all three children.

So she made a decision.

A terrible decision.

She created a fourth identity.

A woman who would disappear.

A woman who would take her place.

A woman whose death would protect the daughters.

Present day.

Elena looked horrified.

"You created a fake death?"

Isabella nodded.

"Yes."

"Then who died?"

Isabella looked at Lydia.

Lydia's face changed.

"No..."

Isabella whispered:

"The woman who raised me."

Silence.

Lydia stepped backward.

"My mother..."

Isabella nodded.

"She was my closest friend."

Elena felt sick.

"So all of this..."

A pause.

"Everyone's identity..."

"Was changed."

Isabella looked down.

"Yes."

Ruiz stepped forward.

"Then the body?"

Isabella answered:

"The body was never meant to be found."

She looked toward the church doors.

"But someone wanted it discovered."

Everyone understood.

Alexander.

At Howard Manor...

Alexander watched the church feed.

The smile on his face had disappeared.

Richard stood beside him.

"You lost control."

Alexander shook his head.

"No."

Richard looked confused.

"After everything?"

Alexander looked at the screen.

"Do you know why people fail?"

"What?"

"They believe the truth is powerful."

A pause.

"It isn't."

He smiled faintly.

"People are."

Adrian entered the room.

"You knew about the body."

Alexander looked at him.

"Yes."

"You planted it."

"Yes."

Adrian stared.

"Why?"

Alexander turned toward him.

"Because I needed Elena to doubt everyone."

A pause.

"Especially herself."

Back at the church...

Elena looked at Clara.

Then Lydia.

Then Isabella.

Three women.

Three versions of the truth.

"I don't know who to trust."

Nobody blamed her.

Because they all understood.

Then Clara spoke.

"Trust yourself."

Everyone looked at her.

Clara continued:

"That's what Alexander never understood."

She looked at Elena.

"He spent years trying to control our identities."

A pause.

"But he never controlled our choices."

Suddenly...

The church doors opened.

Police officers entered.

Ruiz turned.

"What happened?"

The officer looked nervous.

"We received an emergency transmission."

"From who?"

The officer handed him a device.

Ruiz pressed play.

Alexander's voice filled the church.

"If you're hearing this..."

Everyone froze.

"Then I am probably already dead."

Elena looked shocked.

Ruiz immediately checked.

"Where is Alexander?"

The officer answered:

"Howard Manor."

A pause.

"He was found unconscious."

The recording continued.

"I know you think I am the villain."

Alexander's voice sounded tired.

"But history is written by survivors."

A pause.

"And I survived because I understood something none of you did."

The sound became distorted.

Then:

"The Howard family was never destroyed by outsiders."

"The Howard family destroyed itself."

The recording ended.

Nobody spoke.

Then Elena noticed something.

A final file attached.

A video.

She opened it.

Alexander appeared.

Not old.

Not weak.

A younger version of himself.

Sitting across from someone.

Someone hidden in shadows.

A person whose face couldn't be seen.

Alexander said:

"You were right."

The hidden figure answered:

"Of course I was."

Alexander continued:

"The children are born."

The figure smiled.

"Good."

"Now we wait."

The video ended.

Ruiz stared.

"Who was that?"

Nobody knew.

Until...

Isabella looked at the screen.

Her face turned pale.

"No."

Elena looked at her.

"Who?"

Isabella whispered:

"The person who started all of this."

The church doors suddenly opened again.

Everyone turned.

A woman stood there.

Older.

Elegant.

Calm.

She looked at Isabella.

Then Elena.

Then the three sisters.

And smiled.

"I've been waiting a very long time."

Ruiz stepped forward.

"Who are you?"

The woman answered:

"My name is Eleanor Howard."

Everyone froze.

Because that name belonged to someone impossible.

The founder of the Howard fortune.

A woman who had died over sixty years ago.

Elena stared.

"That's impossible."

The woman smiled.

"No."

She looked at the three sisters.

"The impossible part..."

A pause.

"Is that you believed the story they told you."

She walked closer.

"The Howard family secret didn't begin with Alexander."

She looked at Elena.

"It began with me."

The final mystery had arrived.

The woman who started the empire.

The woman whose blood created everything.

May you like

And the woman who had been hidden longer than anyone.
