CHAPTER 12 – The Secret Vanessa Buried

The photograph remained on Elena's screen.

Vanessa.

Standing beside an unknown man.

The man she called Father.

For several seconds, nobody in the church spoke.

The silence felt heavier than any confession they had heard before.

Because every answer created another question.

Every secret opened another door.

And behind every door...

There was another shadow waiting.

"Vanessa's father?"

Clara looked at Elena.

"Who is he?"

Elena shook her head.

"I don't know."

Isabella stared at the picture.

But her expression changed.

Not confusion.

Recognition.

Elena noticed immediately.

"You know him."

Isabella didn't answer.

"Mom."

The word made Isabella look up.

Elena's voice became colder.

"Please don't tell me you know him too."

Isabella closed her eyes.

"His name is Richard Cross."

Clara froze.

"No."

Thomas's old recording.

The Howard secrets.

Alexander's stolen identity.

Everything suddenly seemed connected.

"Who is Richard Cross?" Elena asked.

Isabella looked toward the broken church windows.

"The man who taught Alexander how to destroy people."

Years earlier...

Before Alexander Howard became the powerful figure everyone feared...

There was Richard Cross.

A businessman.

A strategist.

A man who understood human weakness.

He didn't build companies.

He built control.

He taught people how to manipulate.

How to hide money.

How to erase identities.

And the most successful person he ever trained...

Was Marcus Vane.

Present day.

"So Alexander learned from him."

Clara whispered.

Isabella nodded.

"Yes."

Elena looked at the photograph again.

"But why is Vanessa with him?"

Nobody answered.

Because they already knew.

The answer was dangerous.

At Howard Manor...

Vanessa stood face-to-face with the man she believed was dead.

Richard Cross.

Her father.

The person she had spent years trying to forget.

"You shouldn't have come back."

Richard smiled.

"Neither should you."

Vanessa's expression hardened.

"I came back because of Elena."

"No."

Richard shook his head.

"You came back because you wanted revenge."

Silence.

A painful truth.

Vanessa looked away.

"You used me."

Richard laughed softly.

"I raised you."

"You manipulated me."

"I taught you."

"You destroyed my life."

Richard stepped closer.

"No, Vanessa."

His voice became colder.

"Alexander destroyed your life."

A pause.

"I simply showed you how to survive."

Twenty years earlier...

Vanessa was a young girl.

She watched her father lose everything.

His company.

His reputation.

His wealth.

All because of Alexander Howard.

But nobody knew the truth.

Alexander didn't defeat Richard.

He stole from him.

He took Richard's research.

His strategies.

His empire.

And turned them into the Howard machine.

Present day.

"You wanted to destroy Alexander."

Vanessa said.

Richard smiled.

"Of course."

"Then why involve Elena?"

Richard's expression changed.

"Because Elena is the key."

Vanessa looked angry.

"She is not a tool."

Richard stared at her.

"Neither were you."

The words hurt.

Because Vanessa knew.

Deep down...

They were the same.

Both had been used.

Both had been shaped by powerful people.

Meanwhile...

At the church...

Ruiz arrived.

He walked inside quickly.

"Elena."

She turned.

"What happened?"

He looked at Clara.

Then Isabella.

Then finally Elena.

"We found Richard Cross."

Everyone froze.

"Where?"

Ruiz hesitated.

"At Howard Manor."

Elena immediately understood.

"With Vanessa."

Ruiz nodded.

"Yes."

A detective handed Ruiz a folder.

"We also found something else."

"What?"

"Security footage from the night Elena fell."

Elena frowned.

"We already have that."

"No."

Ruiz opened the folder.

"This is from a camera we didn't know existed."

He placed a tablet on the table.

The footage began.

The staircase.

Vanessa.

Elena.

The fall.

Everyone watched.

But then...

Something appeared.

A third person.

Standing in the hallway.

Watching.

Elena leaned closer.

"Who is that?"

The figure stepped forward.

The face became visible.

Everyone froze.

Because it was Adrian.

Her husband.

But the timestamp showed something impossible.

The video was recorded...

Ten minutes before Adrian claimed he was unconscious.

Elena felt the air leave her lungs.

"No."

Clara looked at the screen.

"He was there."

Ruiz nodded.

"Yes."

Isabella whispered:

"Then Adrian wasn't just hiding information."

She looked at Elena.

"He was part of the plan."

At Howard Manor...

Adrian stood in the library.

Alexander watched him.

"You failed."

Adrian looked exhausted.

"I tried to protect her."

Alexander laughed.

"You always were weak."

Adrian's hands clenched.

"She's my wife."

"No."

Alexander corrected.

"She is the future of this family."

Adrian looked at him.

"You're afraid."

Alexander became silent.

"Afraid of what?"

Adrian stepped closer.

"That Elena will choose the truth over the Howard name."

For the first time...

Alexander's expression changed.

Because Adrian was right.

Suddenly...

The mansion security system activated.

Every screen turned on.

A video appeared.

Elena.

Standing in the church.

Speaking.

But the video was not live.

It was recorded.

A message.

From Clara.

Everyone watched.

Including Alexander.

Clara looked directly into the camera.

"Alexander."

A pause.

"You spent twenty-eight years trying to control my family."

She smiled.

"But you made one mistake."

The screen showed Elena beside her.

"You thought separating us made us weaker."

The image changed.

Thomas.

Isabella.

Vanessa.

Ruiz.

Everyone connected.

Clara's voice continued:

"You forgot something."

A pause.

"Broken families don't stay broken forever."

Alexander stared at the screen.

Then laughed.

Quietly.

Almost calmly.

Adrian looked at him.

"Why are you laughing?"

Alexander looked toward the camera.

"Because Clara still doesn't understand."

"What?"

Alexander smiled.

"She thinks this is the end."

A pause.

"But she has no idea what I did before she was born."

The screens changed.

A new video appeared.

An old hospital room.

A doctor.

A baby.

A woman crying.

And Alexander's voice.

Everyone froze.

Because the baby in the video...

Was not Elena.

Was not Clara.

It was someone else.

A third child.

Elena whispered:

"No..."

Clara stared at the screen.

Her face drained of color.

"Impossible."

The video ended with one sentence.

"The first daughter was never the beginning."

"She was the third mistake."

Nobody spoke.

Because the Howard family secret had just become even darker.

There weren't two daughters.

There were three.

And somewhere in the world...

May you like

Another child of the Howard bloodline was still alive.
