Chapter 6: Five Minutes to Midnight
The metallic voice echoed through every corridor.
"WARNING. FOUNDATION PURGE ACTIVATED."
"SELF-DESTRUCTION IN 300 SECONDS."
A deep rumble rolled beneath the floor.
Dust drifted from the ceiling.
Emergency lights switched from red to flashing amber.
Every person in the underground complex understood the same truth.
This was no bluff.
Victor intended to bury every secret forever.
Ethan immediately snapped into action.
"Alpha Team!"
"Evacuation protocol!"
The operators spread out with practiced precision.
Two secured the corridor.
Another checked structural stability.
The remaining three searched for alternate exits.
Hayes looked toward the ceiling.
"The support columns are already shifting."
"We don't have five minutes."
Ethan turned to Amelia.
"Can you walk?"
She nodded.
"I'll have to."
Without another word, Ethan slipped one arm around her waist.
She protested weakly.
"I can manage."
"I know."
"But I'm not losing you again."
Amelia didn't argue.
Instead, she rested her head briefly against his shoulder.
For seven years, she had dreamed of this moment.
She never imagined it would happen while the ground collapsed beneath them.
Back in the armored SUV...
Lily suddenly sat upright.
Her small face turned pale.
"Nora."
One of the guards looked over.
"What about her?"
"She's going to die."
The guard frowned.
"Nora's still at the mansion."
Lily shook her head.
"No."
"They took her."
The words silenced everyone.
She closed her eyes tightly.
Fragments of memory flashed through her mind.
Victor speaking to Nora.
"If anything goes wrong..."
"Bring the woman to Foundation Seven."
Lily opened her eyes.
"They lied."
"They never left her at the house."
The guard immediately radioed Ethan.
"Sir."
"Lily remembers Nora may be inside the facility."
Ethan didn't hesitate.
"Find her."
Three corridors away...
Nora slowly regained consciousness.
Her wrists were tied to a steel pipe.
She blinked through the darkness.
Then remembered everything.
Victor's men.
The injection.
The van.
She had been brought here as disposable evidence.
A timer blinked on the nearby wall.

Tears filled her eyes.
"So this is how it ends..."
She closed her eyes.
"I deserve it."
A voice answered from the darkness.
"No."
Nora gasped.
A woman stepped into the emergency light.
White hair.
Late sixties.
Wearing a faded nurse's uniform.
She carried a ring of old keys.
"You still have something left to do."
Nora stared.
"Who are you?"
The woman smiled sadly.
"My name..."
"...is Eleanor."
Elsewhere...
Victor entered the western escape tunnel carrying the fireproof briefcase.
One of his guards followed close behind.
"Sir."
"The eastern tunnels are collapsing."
Victor didn't look back.
"They've served their purpose."
"What if Mr. Blackwood escapes?"
Victor smiled.
"He won't."
The guard hesitated.
"And if he does?"
Victor stopped walking.
"Then I'll kill him myself."
Back inside Blue Door Twelve...
Amelia suddenly remembered the note hidden inside Lily's rabbit.
"Ethan."
"The nurse."
"What nurse?"
"Eleanor."
"She saved Lily."
"She left me a message."
Hayes looked surprised.
"Eleanor?"
"I know that name."
Everyone turned toward him.
"When the hospital fire happened..."
"...one nurse disappeared."
"The official report said she died."
Amelia shook her head.
"No."
"Victor wanted everyone to believe that."
Hayes' expression darkened.
"If Eleanor survived..."
"...she may be the only eyewitness."
"And the only person who can prove Victor started the fire."
The countdown echoed again.
240 SECONDS REMAINING.
The walls shuddered violently.
Concrete cracked above their heads.
Chunks of debris crashed into the hallway.
One operator barely pushed Amelia aside before a massive beam smashed into the floor.
"Damn!"
The tunnel behind them disappeared beneath tons of rubble.
Alpha Team's leader checked the map.
"Our exit is gone."
Hayes looked around.
"We're trapped."
Ethan remained calm.
"No."
He glanced at the brass key still in his pocket.
"There's one place Victor never wanted anyone to find."
"Vault Seven."
Meanwhile...
Eleanor finished unlocking Nora's restraints.
Nora rubbed her aching wrists.
"Why did you save me?"
Eleanor looked directly into her eyes.
"Because Lily still loves you."
Nora burst into tears.
"I don't deserve that."
"No."
"You don't."
The older nurse's voice remained gentle.
"But children forgive differently than adults."
Nora lowered her head.
"I wanted to protect her."
"At first."
"Then Victor threatened to kill us both."
Eleanor nodded.
"I know."
"I watched."
"You..."
"You were here all these years?"
Eleanor smiled faintly.
"Someone had to stay alive."
Back in the escape tunnel...
Victor's phone vibrated.
A hidden security camera had activated automatically.
He glanced at the screen.
His smile faded.
Ethan.
Amelia.
Alive.
Together.
Walking toward Sector Seven.
Victor stopped.
"No..."
The guard looked confused.
"What is it?"
"They found the wrong tunnel."
Victor shook his head.
"No..."
"They found the right one."
For the first time in years...
Real fear crossed his face.
Because beyond Vault Seven...
Hidden deeper than every laboratory...
Lay something he had spent seven years making sure no one would ever see.
Not money.
Not documents.
Not weapons.
The original archive.
Every photograph.
Every DNA record.
Every financial transfer.
Every recording.
Every name.
Enough evidence to destroy powerful families across the country.
Enough evidence to send Victor to prison for the rest of his life.
He turned sharply.
"We're going back."
The guard stared at him in disbelief.
"The building is collapsing!"
Victor grabbed him by the collar.
"If Ethan reaches that vault..."
"...everything I've built dies with me."
Without another word, Victor ran back toward the collapsing underground maze.
At the same time, Ethan stopped before an enormous circular steel door half-buried in concrete dust.
Across its surface, etched into black metal, were two words he had never seen before.
VAULT SEVEN
Below them, a biometric scanner slowly lit up.
Then, without anyone touching it...
