Chapter 9 - The Fake Marriage ContractSomeone Had Planned Their Marriage Years AgoAmara read the document three times.

Her name.

Daniel's name.

The signatures.

The date.

Everything looked authentic.

But according to Samuel, it was fake.

“So what is the real contract?” she asked.

Samuel smiled.

“You already signed it.”

Daniel frowned.

“Where?”

“Under your father's roof.”

Amara shook her head.

“I signed one contract in the dining room.”

“That was the public agreement.”

Samuel took another envelope from inside his coat.

“This is the real one.”

Daniel opened it.

His face changed.

Amara read over his shoulder.

The document stated that if she and Daniel remained married for one full year, the hidden trust would transfer to both of them permanently.

But beneath the signatures was another clause.

Neither party may knowingly reveal the true value of the trust until the first anniversary.

Amara stared.

“What happens if we separate?”

“The trust returns to the original foundation.”

“Whose foundation?”

Samuel looked at Daniel.

“Your father's.”

Daniel's eyes hardened.

“So Edward wanted us to divorce.”

“Exactly.”

Amara suddenly understood.

Her father had not forced her to marry Daniel because he wanted to save her.

He had wanted the marriage to fail.

And Daniel had been hiding his wealth because he needed the marriage to survive long enough to activate the trust.

She looked at him.

“Then what happens now?”

Daniel's voice softened.

“Nothing changes.”

“Nothing?”

“I still want you.”

Amara looked away.

“You started this marriage for a reason.”

“Yes.”

“And now?”

Daniel stepped closer.

“Now I stay because of you.”

Her eyes filled with tears.

Before she could answer, her phone rang.

Kevin.

She answered.

“Amara.”

“What do you want?”

“I need to see you.”

“No.”

“Please.”

She hesitated.

“It's about your father.”

“I'm listening.”

“Meet me at the hotel.”

Daniel shook his head.

“No.”

Amara covered the phone.

“I need to know what he has.”

Daniel looked at her.

“Then I'll come with you.”

She nodded.

They arrived at the hotel.

Kevin was waiting.

But he wasn't alone.

Edward Harrison stood beside him.

Amara stopped.

“Dad?”

Edward smiled.

“Sit down.”

Daniel moved in front of her.

“What are you planning?”

Edward placed a folder on the table.

“Your mother's death was not an accident.”

Amara's breath caught.

Daniel went still.

“What did you say?”

Edward looked at Daniel.

“Your father ordered it.”

Silence.

Amara looked between them.

“No.”

Edward continued.

“Your mother discovered the truth about the trust.”

Daniel's jaw tightened.

“Why would your father kill her?”

“Because she knew where the money came from.”

“What money?”

Edward smiled.

“The original fortune.”

Daniel stepped forward.

Edward raised a finger.

“You want to know who funded Williams Global?”

Daniel stopped.

Edward opened the folder.

Inside was a photograph.

A bank.

A date.

A transfer amount.

And the name of the sender.

Daniel's face went pale.

Amara looked at the page.

Then she whispered:

“That can't be…”

The sender was not Daniel's family.

Not her family.

Not a corporation.

It was a private individual.

Amara's mother.

Daniel looked at Amara.

“She funded my entire empire.”

Amara stared.

“My mother?”

Edward smiled.

“Your mother didn't leave you an inheritance.”

He leaned forward.

“She built the richest man in the world.”

Then every light in the hotel suite went out.

A gunshot rang through the darkness.

When the lights returned, Edward was gone.

May you like

And Kevin was lying on the floor.

Blood spreading across his shirt.
