Chapter 12 - The Crime Daniel Never Told HerThe Night His Family CollapsedAmara couldn't speak.

“Daniel killed his father?”

Michael nodded.

“But he was only seventeen.”

“He didn't mean to.”

“What happened?”

Michael looked at the floor.

“Our father was going to kill Mom.”

Daniel's mother had discovered the financial crimes.

Their father confronted her.

Daniel intervened.

“He tried to stop him.”

“What happened?”

“A struggle.”

“And?”

Michael's eyes filled with tears.

“His father fell down the stairs.”

Amara stared.

“Daniel's father died.”

“Yes.”

“Then why was your father blamed?”

“Because Edward changed the evidence.”

Amara shook her head.

“So Daniel has been living with guilt.”

“Every day.”

Michael looked at her.

“That is why he became a beggar.”

“To punish himself?”

“To disappear.”

Amara closed her eyes.

Everything suddenly made sense.

The old clothes.

The quietness.

The refusal to speak about his past.

The way he looked at death as though he had already accepted it.

She whispered:

“I thought he was hiding money.”

Michael nodded.

“He was hiding pain.”

A car stopped outside.

Daniel's security team alerted them.

Daniel himself stepped out.

His arm was still bandaged.

Amara stared at him.

“You're supposed to be resting.”

He smiled.

“I heard someone was threatening my wife.”

Michael walked toward him.

Daniel froze.

For a moment, the brothers stared at each other.

Then Daniel whispered:

“Michael?”

His brother nodded.

Daniel's eyes filled with tears.

“I thought you were dead.”

“So did everyone else.”

Daniel hugged him.

Amara watched silently.

Five years of secrets.

Two brothers separated by a crime.

A mother who had sacrificed everything.

A father who had manipulated the truth.

Then Daniel looked at Amara.

“I should have told you.”

She nodded.

“Yes.”

“I was afraid.”

“Of me?”

“Of losing you.”

Amara took a breath.

“You already lost me once.”

Daniel's face fell.

“Amara…”

“I don't know how to trust you anymore.”

He nodded.

“I understand.”

“You lied to me.”

“Yes.”

“You investigated my family.”

“Yes.”

“You married me for a reason.”

“Yes.”

She looked into his eyes.

“And now?”

Daniel said:

“Now I would choose you without the money.”

Silence.

Michael stepped away.

Amara wiped her tears.

Then her phone rang.

A video message.

Edward.

He stood inside an office.

Behind him was Harrison Holdings.

“You found Michael.”

Amara's heart sank.

Edward smiled.

“You should be proud.”

“What do you want?”

“The trust.”

“You can't have it.”

Edward laughed.

“You misunderstand.”

He turned the camera.

Kevin was tied to a chair.

Blood covered his face.

Amara gasped.

“Kevin.”

“He betrayed me.”

Edward continued.

“He knows where the original ledger is.”

Daniel stepped closer to the screen.

“Let him go.”

“No.”

Edward smiled.

“I want Amara.”

Daniel's face hardened.

“Take me instead.”

“No.”

Edward looked directly at Amara.

“You have twelve hours.”

“For what?”

“To sign over your mother's trust.”

“What happens if I don't?”

Edward looked at Kevin.

Then at Daniel.

“Your former lover dies.”

Amara's jaw tightened.

“Kevin isn't my lover.”

Edward smiled.

“I know.”

He ended the call.

Daniel turned to her.

“Don't go.”

“I have to.”

“No.”

“He'll kill Kevin.”

Michael stepped forward.

“It's a trap.”

“I know.”

Daniel looked at Amara.

“Then don't walk into it alone.”

She stared at him.

“You're coming?”

“I married you.”

May you like

He took her hand.

“This time, I won't hide.”
