Chapter 5 - The Dead WomanThe Secret Behind Daniel's DisappearanceAmara stared at the screen.

The woman in the video stood beside Daniel.

Long dark hair.

Sharp features.

A silver bracelet on her wrist.

There was no mistaking her.

Sophia Williams.

Daniel's first wife.

The woman supposedly killed in a car accident five years ago.

“No…”

Kevin watched her reaction.

“Now do you understand?”

Amara stepped closer.

“When was this recorded?”

“Three days ago.”

“Where is she?”

Kevin smiled.

“That is the problem.”

“What problem?”

“She disappeared again.”

Amara stared at him.

“Why?”

“Because Daniel found her.”

“Found her?”

“Yes.”

“Then why did everyone think she was dead?”

Kevin shrugged.

“Ask Daniel.”

“Where is he?”

Kevin's smile disappeared.

“I don't know.”

Amara backed away.

“You said you knew everything.”

“I know enough.”

“Then tell me.”

Kevin moved closer.

“You married a man who has spent five years searching for his supposedly dead wife.”

Amara's stomach twisted.

“So why did he marry me?”

Kevin looked directly into her eyes.

“Because he needed a new identity.”

“What?”

“Your marriage made him invisible.”

“That makes no sense.”

“Think about it. A billionaire disappears from public life. Then he suddenly marries the daughter of the man who allegedly ruined his first wife's investigation.”

Amara shook her head.

“My father didn't…”

Kevin interrupted.

“Didn't what?”

She couldn't answer.

Because she no longer knew.

Kevin lowered his voice.

“Daniel didn't choose you because he loved you.”

The words hurt.

More than she expected.

“He chose you because you're useful.”

Amara slapped him.

Kevin's face turned furious.

“You still defend him?”

“I don't know what I believe.”

“Good.”

He smiled.

“Because you're about to see the truth.”

Suddenly, the warehouse doors slammed shut.

Amara turned.

Lights flickered on.

Men surrounded them.

She stepped backward.

Kevin looked surprised.

“What is this?”

A voice came from the shadows.

“An intervention.”

A tall man walked forward.

Victor Kane.

Amara recognized him from business news.

International financier.

Daniel's biggest corporate rival.

Victor smiled.

“Mrs. Williams.”

“Where is my husband?”

Victor laughed.

“You are very loyal for a woman who has known him for less than a month.”

“I asked where he is.”

Victor held up a tablet.

A live video appeared.

Daniel was tied to a chair.

Amara's heart raced.

“Daniel!”

He lifted his head.

“Amara, don't listen to them.”

Victor stepped into view.

“You see?”

Daniel struggled against the restraints.

“Let her go.”

Victor smiled.

“That depends on you.”

Daniel looked at Amara.

“Go.”

She shook her head.

“No.”

“Amara, go.”

“I won't leave you.”

Victor laughed.

“This is touching.”

Daniel's eyes turned cold.

“Victor.”

“Yes?”

“You made one mistake.”

Victor raised an eyebrow.

“What mistake?”

Daniel smiled.

“You kidnapped my wife.”

A loud crash sounded from outside.

Then another.

Then gunshots.

Victor's men rushed toward the doors.

Daniel suddenly stood.

The restraints had been cut.

He attacked the guard behind him.

Amara stared.

“How…”

Daniel pulled her toward the exit.

“Run.”

They raced through the warehouse.

Security teams stormed inside.

Victor escaped through a side door.

Amara and Daniel reached the parking lot.

Daniel opened a car door.

“Get in.”

She didn't move.

“Amara.”

She stared at him.

“Tell me the truth.”

Daniel breathed heavily.

“About what?”

“Your wife.”

He looked away.

“She's alive.”

“You found her?”

“Yes.”

“Why didn't you tell me?”

“Because she's in danger.”

“Where is she?”

Daniel hesitated.

“She is safe.”

“That isn't an answer.”

He finally looked at her.

“She is the reason I became a beggar.”

Amara frowned.

“What?”

Daniel closed his eyes.

“Five years ago, everyone thought Sophia died.”

“Yes.”

“She didn't.”

“Then what happened?”

“She discovered who was stealing from my company.”

“Who?”

Daniel stared at the road.

“My own father.”

Amara felt dizzy.

“You're saying your father…”

“He tried to destroy the company.”

“And Sophia found out?”

“Yes.”

“What happened to her?”

“They kidnapped her.”

“Who?”

Daniel swallowed.

“My father.”

Amara stared.

“But your father is dead.”

Daniel slowly shook his head.

“No.”

He opened the car door.

“My father is alive.”

Amara froze.

Daniel stepped closer.

“And he's been watching us since the day we married.”

A voice suddenly came from behind them.

“You shouldn't have told her that.”

Daniel turned.

A limousine was parked across the street.

The rear window lowered.

An older man sat inside.

Amara had never seen him before.

Daniel's face went pale.

“Father.”

The older man smiled.

May you like

Then looked directly at Amara.

“Welcome to the family.”
