Chapter 10 - The Betrayal Inside Her Father's HouseKevin Knew Too MuchAmara screamed.

“Kevin!”

Daniel dropped beside him.

“Call an ambulance!”

Kevin's eyes fluttered.

“He…”

“Who shot you?”

Kevin coughed.

“Your father.”

Amara froze.

“Dad?”

Kevin grabbed Daniel's wrist.

“He knows…”

“What?”

“The real account.”

“What account?”

Kevin struggled to breathe.

“The one your mother used.”

Daniel looked at Amara.

“What did she have?”

“I don't know.”

Kevin's eyes closed.

“Amara…”

She leaned closer.

“What?”

“Your mother left something for you.”

“What?”

“Not money.”

He swallowed.

“A recording.”

Then he lost consciousness.

The ambulance arrived.

Daniel stayed behind while Amara followed Kevin to the hospital.

Two hours later, a nurse approached.

“Mrs. Williams?”

“Yes?”

“Your husband is waiting outside.”

She stepped into the hallway.

Daniel stood there.

He looked exhausted.

“What happened?”

“The bullet missed his heart.”

“Will he survive?”

“They say yes.”

Amara closed her eyes.

For a moment, neither spoke.

Then Daniel said:

“We found the recording.”

“Where?”

“In a storage unit.”

“My father?”

“Not his.”

“Then whose?”

“Your mother rented it under a false identity.”

They went there that night.

Inside the storage unit were dozens of boxes.

Photographs.

Bank records.

Letters.

Newspaper clippings.

And one old cassette recorder.

Amara pressed play.

Her mother's voice filled the dark room.

“If you're hearing this, then Edward has finally failed.”

Amara covered her mouth.

Her mother's voice continued.

“I knew he would try to control the trust.”

She paused.

“I also knew someone would have to protect Daniel.”

Daniel stared at the recorder.

“Why me?”

The recording continued.

“Daniel was still young when his father started stealing from the company. I moved the original assets into a protected structure under his name.”

Amara looked at him.

Her mother continued:

“One day, Daniel will lose almost everything.”

Daniel's face changed.

“That happened.”

The voice continued.

“But he will rebuild it.”

Another pause.

“And when he meets Amara, he must believe she chose him without knowing his wealth.”

Amara began crying.

“She knew.”

Daniel took her hand.

Her mother's voice became softer.

“Amara, I am sorry you were raised in a house where love was always mixed with money.”

Amara closed her eyes.

“I wanted you to marry a man who had nothing to offer you except his character.”

Daniel looked away.

Her mother continued.

“If that man is Daniel, then trust him.”

The recording ended.

Silence filled the room.

Amara whispered:

“She planned our marriage.”

Daniel nodded.

“For years.”

“Then why did my father force it?”

“Because he discovered part of the plan.”

Amara turned.

“What part?”

Daniel's eyes hardened.

“He knew your mother intended to expose him.”

“And he stopped her.”

“Yes.”

“But why am I the beneficiary?”

“Because she wanted you protected.”

A noise came from outside.

Daniel immediately turned.

Footsteps.

Someone was approaching.

He switched off the light.

They waited.

The storage door opened.

A shadow entered.

Then another.

Daniel motioned for Amara to stay behind him.

The first man moved toward the boxes.

Daniel attacked.

The room erupted into chaos.

Amara ran toward the exit.

One of the attackers grabbed her.

She screamed.

Daniel fought him off.

Then a third man appeared holding a gun.

He pointed it directly at Daniel.

Amara froze.

The man smiled.

“You should have stayed a beggar.”

He pulled the trigger.

Daniel shoved Amara aside.

The bullet struck him in the shoulder.

He fell.

“Daniel!”

Amara rushed toward him.

The attacker raised the gun again.

Then a voice came from behind him.

“Drop it.”

Police.

The attacker turned.

The police arrested him.

Amara knelt beside Daniel.

Blood soaked his shirt.

“You idiot.”

Daniel smiled weakly.

“You're welcome.”

She cried.

“Don't joke.”

“I wasn't.”

He looked at her.

“I meant it.”

Then his eyes closed.

Amara screamed for help.

As the paramedics carried him away, a detective approached.

“Mrs. Williams.”

“Yes?”

“We found something on the attacker.”

He handed her a small key.

“What is it?”

“A key to a private bank vault.”

“Whose vault?”

May you like

The detective looked at her.

“Registered under your name.”
