Chapter 13 - The Woman Who Finally Chose HimAmara Walked Into the TrapThe warehouse was waiting.

Amara entered alone.

At least, that's what Edward thought.

Daniel and Michael were hidden nearby with security teams.

Amara held the trust documents in her hands.

Edward stood across the room.

Kevin sat tied to a chair.

“You came.”

“Let him go.”

Edward smiled.

“Sign.”

Amara placed the documents on the table.

“First release Kevin.”

Edward shook his head.

“First sign.”

“Then how do I know you'll honor the deal?”

“You don't.”

Amara stared at him.

“You always taught me not to trust anyone.”

Edward's expression softened.

“I taught you to trust family.”

“You stopped being family the moment you tried to kill my husband.”

Edward's face hardened.

“Daniel is not your family.”

“He is my husband.”

Edward laughed.

“You barely knew him.”

Amara looked at Daniel's wedding ring on her finger.

“I know him now.”

Edward raised his hand.

A gunman stepped closer.

“Sign.”

Amara picked up the pen.

Then stopped.

“Dad.”

“What?”

“Why did Mom trust Daniel?”

Edward frowned.

“She was foolish.”

“No.”

Amara smiled faintly.

“She was smarter than you.”

Edward's face changed.

“You think you know everything.”

“I know enough.”

She lifted the pen.

“Mom didn't leave me money.”

Edward narrowed his eyes.

“She left me a choice.”

“What choice?”

Amara dropped the pen.

“To decide what kind of person I wanted to become.”

Daniel stepped from the shadows.

Edward spun around.

Security flooded the warehouse.

Gunmen raised their weapons.

Chaos erupted.

Daniel reached Amara.

“Are you okay?”

“Yes.”

Kevin shouted:

“The safe!”

Daniel turned.

“What?”

Kevin pointed toward a metal cabinet.

“There's something inside.”

Edward tried to run.

Michael blocked him.

“You took twenty years from us.”

Edward stared at him.

“You should be dead.”

Michael smiled.

“You first.”

Police stormed into the warehouse.

Edward was arrested.

Kevin was freed.

But the danger wasn't over.

Daniel opened the cabinet.

Inside was the missing ledger page.

He read it.

Then stopped.

Amara stepped closer.

“What?”

Daniel looked at her.

“The person who funded the original account wasn't your mother.”

She frowned.

“Then who?”

Daniel turned the page.

There was a name.

Alexander Williams.

His father.

Amara stared.

“But you said your father stole the company.”

“He did.”

“Then why would he fund my mother?”

Daniel looked confused.

“That is what I need to know.”

Michael read the page.

His face changed.

“There's more.”

He pointed to the bottom.

A second signature.

Edward Harrison.

Amara froze.

Her father and Daniel's father had once worked together.

They had created the empire.

Then fought over it.

Her mother had tried to stop them.

Sophia had uncovered the truth.

Michael had witnessed the aftermath.

And Daniel had spent his entire life believing the wrong man was responsible.

Daniel suddenly remembered something.

“The first wife.”

Amara looked at him.

“What?”

“Sophia wasn't investigating Edward.”

“Then who?”

Daniel turned pale.

“She was investigating my father.”

Sophia walked into the warehouse.

“I think it's time you knew.”

Everyone turned.

She held another document.

“The night Alexander died…”

She looked at Daniel.

“…he wasn't trying to hurt your mother.”

“What was he doing?”

“Protecting her.”

Daniel's eyes widened.

Sophia handed him the document.

“I found this years ago.”

He read it.

His father's final statement.

I trusted Edward. That was my greatest mistake.

Daniel stared.

“Edward forged everything.”

Sophia nodded.

“And there is one more thing.”

“What?”

She looked at Amara.

“Your mother was not killed.”

Amara's breath caught.

“What?”

“She escaped.”

Daniel stared.

“Then where is she?”

Sophia looked toward the warehouse doors.

“I don't know.”

A slow clap echoed from the darkness.

Everyone turned.

A woman stepped forward.

Older.

Elegant.

Gray streaks in her hair.

Amara stopped breathing.

The face was older.

But unmistakable.

May you like

Her mother.

Alive.
