Chapter 4: The Disappearance During the Ceremony

The sound of Lily’s scream remained trapped in Daniel’s mind.
Even after the lights came back.
Even after the guests stopped shouting.
Even after the musicians dropped their instruments and the entire wedding hall fell into stunned silence.
All Daniel could hear was one word.
“Daddy!”
He stood frozen for half a second.
Only half a second.
Then instinct took over.
“Lily!”
His voice exploded through the hall.
He dropped to his knees and grabbed the stuffed rabbit lying on the marble floor.
The tiny toy was still warm.
She had been holding it moments ago.
She had been standing right beside him.
And now she was gone.
“No…”
Daniel looked around wildly.
Hundreds of people filled the room.
Guests were confused.
Staff members were moving around.
Everyone was asking questions.
But Daniel didn’t care about any of them.
His daughter was missing.
Again.
A terrible thought entered his mind.
Seven years ago, he lost Claire.
Now, on the day he finally found Lily…
Someone had taken her away.
Michael grabbed Daniel’s shoulder.
“Daniel, look at me.”
Daniel pushed his hand away.
“Find her.”
“We will.”
“No.”
His voice shook.
“We need to find her now.”
Michael nodded.
“I’m going.”
He immediately turned toward the security staff.
“Lock every exit!”
The security team hesitated.
“Sir, this is a wedding event…”
Michael stepped forward.
“Lock. Every. Exit.”
Something in his voice made them move.
Daniel looked across the room.
Emily was standing near the altar.
She looked completely terrified.
Not angry.
Not surprised.
Terrified.
And Daniel noticed.
She wasn’t looking at him.
She was looking at the empty space where Lily had disappeared.
“Emily.”
She looked up.
“Where is she?”
Emily shook her head.
“I don’t know.”
Daniel walked toward her.
“You knew this could happen.”
“No.”
“You knew someone was after her.”
“I didn’t know they would come here.”
The sentence stopped him.
They.
Daniel stared.
“Who is they?”
Emily looked away.
And that was enough.
He grabbed her arm.
“Who?”
Her eyes filled with tears.
“Daniel, please.”
“Who?”
The entire room became silent.
Emily whispered:
“The same people who took Claire.”
Daniel felt his chest tighten.
The words hit harder than he expected.
Because deep down, he had spent years trying to accept that Claire was gone.
But now everything pointed to one impossible truth.
Claire’s disappearance wasn’t an accident.
It wasn’t random.
Someone had planned it.
And that someone was still out there.
Ten minutes later, the wedding hall had become an investigation scene.
The flowers were still beautiful.
The cake was still untouched.
The chairs were still arranged perfectly.
But nobody cared anymore.
The dream wedding had transformed into a search for a missing child.
Daniel stood near the security cameras with Michael.
“Show me the footage.”
The security manager nervously pulled up the recordings.
“This camera covers the hallway.”
The screen showed the bathroom entrance.
Daniel watched himself entering.
He watched himself carrying Lily’s hand out.
Then the lights went off.
The screen became black.
“Backup footage?”
The manager shook his head.
“The power outage affected the system.”
Daniel’s eyes narrowed.
“Convenient.”
Michael looked at him.
“You think someone planned the blackout?”
Daniel didn’t answer.
Because he already knew.
A few seconds later, the lights returned.
The footage continued.
And Daniel saw something.
A shadow.
A person moving behind the guests.
Someone wearing dark clothing.
The figure walked directly toward Lily.
Michael paused the video.
“Can you zoom in?”
The manager tried.
The image became blurry.
But one thing was clear.
The person was not a random guest.
They knew exactly where Lily was.
They knew exactly when the lights would go out.
Daniel clenched his fists.
“This was planned.”
Across the room, Sarah stood alone.
Daniel noticed her.
The woman who claimed to be Claire’s best friend.
The woman who knew the truth.
He walked toward her.
“You.”
Sarah looked up.
“I’m sorry.”
Daniel’s anger exploded.
“Sorry?”
His voice was low.
“You knew Claire.”
“Yes.”
“You knew Lily.”
“Yes.”
“You knew someone was looking for her.”
Sarah looked down.
“Yes.”
Daniel stared at her.
“Then why didn’t you tell me?”
Sarah’s eyes filled with guilt.
“Because Claire made me promise.”
“Promise what?”
“To protect Lily.”
Daniel stepped closer.
“She’s my daughter.”
Sarah nodded.
“I know.”
“Then why keep me away?”
Sarah looked at him.
“Because Claire was afraid.”
“Afraid of me?”
“No.”
Sarah’s voice trembled.
“She was afraid of what would happen if the wrong person found out Lily was alive.”
Daniel froze.
“What does that mean?”
Sarah looked toward Emily.
“She wasn’t hiding Lily from you.”
Daniel followed her eyes.
“She was hiding Lily from someone else.”
A silence fell.
“Who?”
Sarah opened her mouth.
But before she could answer, Emily interrupted.
“Stop.”
Everyone looked at her.
Emily walked forward slowly.
Her wedding dress dragged across the floor.
The woman who had entered the room as the bride now looked like someone who had lost everything.
“Sarah, don’t.”
Daniel looked between them.
“You two know each other.”
Sarah looked away.
“Yes.”
“How?”
Emily didn’t answer.
Daniel’s voice became colder.
“How?”
Sarah finally spoke.
“Because after Claire disappeared…”
She looked at Emily.
“Emily helped me hide.”
Daniel felt his heart sink.
“Hide from who?”
Sarah whispered:
“The man who wanted Lily gone.”
Daniel looked at Emily.
“And you knew all of this?”
Emily closed her eyes.
“Yes.”
The room seemed to spin.
“You knew Claire was alive.”
“Yes.”
“You knew about Lily.”
“Yes.”
“You knew someone was hunting them.”
“Yes.”
Daniel took a step back.
“Then what were you doing with me?”
Emily cried silently.
“I was trying to protect you.”
Daniel shook his head.
“No.”
His voice broke.
“You were trying to control the truth.”
Emily had no answer.
Then suddenly…
A phone rang.
Everyone turned.
The sound came from the security desk.
The manager picked up.
“Hello?”
His face changed.
“What?”
Daniel immediately walked over.
“What is it?”
The manager slowly handed him the phone.
“There’s someone on the line.”
Daniel took it.
“Who is this?”
For several seconds, there was only silence.
Then a distorted voice answered.
“You should have left the past alone.”
Daniel’s blood ran cold.
“Where is my daughter?”
A quiet laugh came through the phone.
“Your daughter?”
The voice sounded amused.
“You didn’t even know she existed yesterday.”
Daniel gripped the phone tighter.
“If you hurt her…”
The person interrupted.
“You have no idea what Claire discovered.”
Daniel froze.
“Who are you?”
The voice became colder.
“I’m the reason Claire disappeared.”
Daniel’s breathing stopped.
“Where is Lily?”
A pause.
Then:
“Come to the old greenhouse behind the estate.”
Daniel looked toward the window.
The abandoned greenhouse.
A place nobody used anymore.
“Why?”
The voice whispered:
“Because if you want your daughter back…”
A pause.
“You need to learn why her mother ran away from you.”
The call ended.
Daniel stood still.
Michael approached.
“What did they say?”
Daniel looked at the dark garden outside.
“They have Lily.”
Everyone went silent.
Emily covered her mouth.
Sarah looked terrified.
Daniel grabbed his coat.
“I’m going there.”
Michael shook his head.
“Not alone.”
Daniel looked at him.
“This is my daughter.”
Michael nodded.
“And you’re my best friend.”
He picked up a flashlight.
“So I’m coming.”
Daniel looked toward Emily.
For a moment, he wanted answers.
He wanted to scream.
He wanted to know why she lied.
But there was no time.
His daughter was waiting.
He walked toward the exit.
Behind him, the wedding decorations moved slightly in the cold wind.
The flowers.
The candles.
The empty altar.
Everything that was supposed to represent love now represented a betrayal.

And somewhere in the darkness behind the estate…
A little girl was waiting for her father to find her.
