Chapter 12: Bianca's Choice

The message kept repeating in Julian's mind.

"Welcome back, Julian Hale."

Not Elias.

Not Gabriel.

Someone else.

Someone who had been watching him.

Someone who knew exactly how far he had gone.

After discovering the Third Door, Julian no longer knew which parts of his life were real and which parts had been designed.

Every person around him carried secrets.

Martha.

Gabriel.

Elias.

And now...

Bianca.

The woman standing closest to him.

The woman whose name appeared inside Project Winter.

The woman whose past had been rewritten.

The woman who had somehow entered his life before they ever met.

For two days, Julian said nothing.

He continued living beside Bianca as if everything was normal.

Breakfast.

Conversations.

Meetings.

Small moments that looked ordinary.

But inside, he was drowning in questions.

Was her love real?

Or was it another carefully programmed response?

Had every smile been part of a mission?

Every touch?

Every word?

The hardest part was that Julian couldn't find the answer by looking at her.

Because Bianca was the first person he had ever met who could hide the truth while making him believe she was being completely honest.

The confrontation happened in the old garden behind the mansion.

The same place where Bianca had once told him she wanted a quiet life away from powerful families.

The irony almost made him laugh.

Nothing about their lives had ever been quiet.

Bianca arrived carrying two cups of coffee.

But when she saw Julian's expression...

She stopped.

"You know."

It wasn't a question.

Julian looked at her.

"The archive."

Her fingers tightened around the cup.

"How much?"

"Enough."

Silence filled the garden.

The wind moved through the trees.

For the first time since he knew her...

Bianca looked afraid.

Not nervous.

Not uncomfortable.

Afraid.

"How long?"

Julian's voice was calm.

"How long were you watching me?"

Bianca looked down.

"Since I was eight."

The answer hit harder than he expected.

Eight years old.

The same age as the first record in her file.

"I was taken into Project Winter after my parents disappeared."

Julian watched carefully.

"My original identity was destroyed."

"New documents."

"New family."

"New education."

"Everything about me was rebuilt."

She swallowed.

"They didn't raise me."

"They created me."

"Created you for what?"

Bianca looked at him.

"For you."

The words were almost impossible to hear.

"My assignment was simple."

"Enter the Hale family."

"Gain your trust."

"Learn everything about you."

"Report your weaknesses."

Julian's expression hardened.

"So our entire relationship..."

"Started as a mission."

Bianca closed her eyes.

"Yes."

The honesty hurt more than a lie.

Because he had spent weeks wondering if she was hiding something.

He never expected her to admit everything.

"I was trained my entire life."

"How to read people."

"How to manipulate conversations."

"How to become whoever someone needed me to be."

"I learned your family's history before I ever met you."

"I studied your habits."

"Your fears."

"Your childhood."

"Your favorite foods."

"Your personality."

She looked at him with tears forming.

"I knew everything about you."

"But you knew nothing about me."

Julian remained silent.

Because she was right.

"When did it change?"

Bianca looked confused.

"What?"

"When did I stop being a mission?"

Her lips trembled.

"That was the problem."

She stepped closer.

"I don't know exactly when."

"Maybe when you trusted me."

"Maybe when you treated me like a person instead of a tool."

"Maybe when you told me about your nightmares."

"Maybe when you looked at me and didn't see someone useful."

She wiped away a tear.

"You were the first person who made me feel like I actually existed."

Julian looked away.

Part of him wanted to believe her.

Another part remembered the photograph.

Eight months before their first meeting.

The secret file.

The perfect history.

"You lied to me."

"Yes."

"You manipulated me."

"Yes."

"You entered my life because someone ordered you to."

"Yes."

Each answer hurt.

But Bianca didn't defend herself.

She accepted every accusation.

Then she whispered:

"But I also saved your life."

Julian looked back.

"What?"

"There were three attempts to kill you before you knew me."

"Your security team never found the people responsible."

"I did."

"Because I was sent to watch you."

She lowered her voice.

"I was supposed to report your vulnerabilities."

"Instead..."

"I reported the threats."

The realization slowly appeared.

The anonymous warnings.

The impossible rescues.

The hidden interventions.

Could some of them have been Bianca?

Julian stared at her.

"You were protecting me."

"Yes."

"Against your own organization?"

Bianca nodded.

"Once I realized what they really were..."

"I couldn't continue."

"Project Winter wasn't about protection anymore."

"It became control."

"Why didn't you tell me?"

Bianca laughed quietly.

A broken sound.

"Because I knew what would happen."

"You would hate me."

Julian didn't answer.

She continued.

"And because leaving wasn't an option."

"They own people like me."

"People they created."

"People without real identities."

"If I disappeared..."

"They would find me."

"And if they found me..."

"They would find you."

Before Julian could respond...

Bianca's phone rang.

Her face changed instantly.

The color disappeared from her skin.

She looked at the screen.

No number.

No name.

But she knew.

Julian saw it.

"You don't have to answer."

Bianca whispered:

"I do."

She accepted the call.

For several seconds, she listened.

Julian couldn't hear the voice on the other side.

But Bianca's expression said enough.

Fear.

Regret.

Pain.

Then the call ended.

"Who was it?"

Bianca didn't respond.

"Bianca."

Her eyes filled with tears.

"They know."

"Who?"

She looked toward the mansion.

"The organization."

Julian stepped closer.

"What did they say?"

Bianca remained silent.

Then she finally spoke.

"They gave me an order."

A cold feeling moved through Julian.

"What order?"

She looked at him.

The woman he loved.

The woman who had been trained to deceive him.

The woman who had betrayed the people who created her.

Her voice cracked.

"They said I have one final mission."

Julian waited.

Bianca whispered:

"Kill you..."

She closed her eyes.

"...or everyone you love will die."

The garden became completely silent.

No birds.

No wind.

Nothing.

Julian stared at Bianca.

The woman who had been sent to destroy him...

Was now the only person standing between him and the people trying to do exactly that.

But one question remained.

If Bianca truly loved him...

What would she choose?

The mission that created her?

Or the man who taught her she was more than a weapon?

May you like

And somewhere in the shadows...

Someone was waiting for her answer.
