CHAPTER 9: THE WOMAN WHO STARTED THE WAR

The entire mansion froze.

Nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

Because the voice coming from the speakers belonged to someone who should have been impossible.

Someone who had been erased from history.

Someone Charles Whitmore had buried in his memories.

Elizabeth Voss.

The woman who knew every secret.

The woman who disappeared twenty-six years ago.

The woman who had just returned.

Alive.

Charles stared at the screen.

For the first time in decades...

He looked powerless.

"No..."

The word escaped his mouth.

Nora looked at him.

"Charles?"

He didn't answer.

His eyes stayed locked on the woman sitting in the darkness.

Elizabeth smiled.

Not a warm smile.

Not a happy one.

A smile belonging to someone who had waited a very long time for this moment.

"Still surprised?"

Her voice echoed through the mansion.

Charles stepped closer to the screen.

"You're dead."

Elizabeth laughed softly.

"That's what you told everyone."

The room became colder.

Alexander stared at the screen.

His face was filled with disbelief.

"Elizabeth..."

She looked toward him.

"Hello, Alexander."

The sound of his name from her mouth broke something inside him.

"You survived."

Elizabeth smiled.

"Unlike your son."

Noah's expression changed.

Only slightly.

But everyone noticed.

Elizabeth noticed too.

"My little Noah."

The young man looked away.

"Don't call me that."

For the first time...

Elizabeth's smile disappeared.

Only for a second.

Then it returned.

"Still angry."

Noah stepped forward.

"You left me."

The room went silent.

Elizabeth looked at him.

"You think I abandoned you?"

"You disappeared."

"You let them take me."

"You let them turn me into something I never wanted to become."

A long pause followed.

Then Elizabeth said:

"I saved your life."

Noah laughed bitterly.

"By destroying it?"

Charles finally spoke.

"Enough."

Everyone turned.

His voice carried authority again.

"Tell me why you're here."

Elizabeth looked at him.

"Twenty-six years later..."

"And you still ask the wrong questions."

Charles' eyes narrowed.

"Then give me the right answer."

Elizabeth leaned closer to the camera.

"The right question is..."

"Why did you think you were the hero?"

The words struck him.

Nora looked confused.

"What is she talking about?"

Charles didn't respond.

Because a memory had returned.

A memory he had buried.

A night he wished he could forget.

Twenty-six years ago.

A hospital room.

Charles stood outside the door.

Inside was Elizabeth.

Holding a newborn baby.

Lucy.

At the time, nobody knew the child would become the center of a war.

Nobody knew her existence would destroy families.

Nobody knew powerful people would kill for her.

But Charles remembered one thing.

Elizabeth had begged him.

"Protect her."

And Charles had promised.

"I will."

But he failed.

Present day.

Elizabeth continued.

"You took my daughter."

Nora froze.

"What?"

Charles looked at her.

Elizabeth smiled.

"Yes, Nora."

"Your precious Lucy."

"She was never just Alexander's daughter."

"She was mine."

Nora looked at Charles.

"Explain."

Charles remained silent.

Alexander answered.

"Elizabeth is Lucy's biological mother."

The room exploded into chaos.

Nora stepped back.

"No..."

She looked upstairs.

At the child sleeping peacefully.

"The birth records..."

"Were altered."

Alexander nodded.

"But why?"

Nobody answered.

Until Elizabeth did.

"Because Lucy was born with something everyone wanted."

Nora frowned.

"What?"

Elizabeth smiled.

"Information."

Years ago...

Alexander Voss wasn't just a businessman.

He was a genius.

He created a system that could expose corruption between the world's most powerful people.

A database.

Names.

Accounts.

Secrets.

Everything.

But before he could release it...

Someone attacked him.

Someone tried to destroy him.

Elizabeth knew the truth.

And before they could reach her...

She hid the final piece of information.

Inside Lucy.

Nora looked horrified.

"What does that mean?"

Charles answered quietly.

"It means..."

"Lucy carries something."

"Something that can destroy an empire."

Daniel watched the broadcast from his hiding place.

He couldn't believe what he was seeing.

Elizabeth Voss.

The real mastermind.

The woman behind everything.

He suddenly understood.

He had never been working for Richard.

Richard had been working for her.

His phone rang.

He answered.

Elizabeth's voice came through.

"Daniel."

He froze.

"You."

"Yes."

"You used me."

"No."

She corrected him.

"I gave you a chance."

"You failed."

Daniel clenched his teeth.

"You destroyed everything I had."

Elizabeth laughed.

"Everything you had?"

"You mean everything you stole?"

Daniel became silent.

She continued:

"You wanted the Whitmore inheritance."

"You wanted power."

"You wanted Nora's trust."

"But you never understood the real game."

Daniel whispered:

"What game?"

Elizabeth answered:

"The game where Lucy survives."

Inside the mansion...

Lucy woke up.

She slowly walked downstairs.

"Mommy?"

Everyone turned.

Nora immediately ran to her.

"Sweetheart, you shouldn't be awake."

Lucy looked at the screen.

At Elizabeth.

Then suddenly stopped.

Her face changed.

Everyone noticed.

"Lucy?"

The little girl stared at the woman.

"Why does she know my name?"

The room went silent.

Elizabeth smiled.

"Because I know you better than anyone."

Lucy looked frightened.

"No..."

She stepped back.

Nora held her.

"Don't listen to her."

But Elizabeth continued.

"Lucy."

The child looked at the screen.

"I kept you safe."

"You just don't remember."

Nora looked confused.

"What is she talking about?"

Elizabeth looked at Charles.

"Tell her."

Charles said nothing.

Elizabeth smiled.

"Tell Nora what happened the night Lucy was born."

Charles' face changed.

"No."

"Tell her."

Silence.

Then Elizabeth said the sentence that destroyed everything.

"Lucy wasn't taken from me."

"She was taken from her."

Nora's heart stopped.

"What?"

Elizabeth looked directly at her.

"Daniel Hale wasn't the only person who lied to you."

A pause.

"Your own father hid the truth."

Nora turned toward Charles.

The man who protected her.

The man she trusted.

"Charles..."

Her voice trembled.

"What did you do?"

Charles looked at Lucy.

Then at Nora.

And finally admitted:

"I made a choice."

Nora stepped back.

"What choice?"

Charles closed his eyes.

"The night Lucy was born..."

"I chose who would lose their child."

Everyone froze.

Alexander stared at him.

Noah's expression darkened.

Elizabeth smiled.

"Now..."

"Let the truth begin."

The screen went black.

Then one final message appeared.

THE FIRST LIE CREATED THE WAR.

THE SECOND LIE CREATED LUCY.
