Chapter 6: The Woman Who Was Supposed To Be Dead

The photograph slipped slightly in Julian's hand.

For the first time in years...

He had no immediate answer.

No strategy.

No calculation.

Only questions.

The storm outside grew louder.

Rain struck the broken windows of the abandoned church like countless fingers tapping against glass.

Sarah stood frozen.

Her eyes remained locked on the photograph.

The woman beside Daniel Cross.

The woman holding a newborn baby.

The woman who looked exactly like her.

"No."

Her voice was barely audible.

"No, that's impossible."

Clara watched her carefully.

"I know what you're thinking."

Sarah slowly looked up.

"You don't know anything about me."

Clara's expression softened.

"Actually..."

She paused.

"I know more about you than you know about yourself."

Julian immediately stepped forward.

"Enough."

His voice carried authority.

"Start explaining."

Clara looked at him.

"You always were impatient, Julian."

His eyes narrowed.

"You know me?"

"Everyone in our world knows Julian Hart."

"That's not what I asked."

Clara remained silent for a moment.

Then she said:

"I worked with Daniel Cross."

Sarah looked shocked.

"You knew Leo's father?"

"Yes."

"And this woman?"

Clara looked at the photograph.

"Her name was Sophia Bennett."

Sarah's breathing stopped.

"Bennett?"

Clara nodded.

"Your sister."

The words landed like a physical blow.

Sarah stepped back.

"My sister?"

She shook her head.

"I don't have a sister."

Clara looked at her sadly.

"That is exactly what they wanted you to believe."

Julian studied Clara.

"You're saying someone altered Sarah's memories?"

"No."

"Then what?"

Clara walked toward an old wooden table.

She placed several documents on it.

"They didn't change her memories."

"They changed her life."

Sarah slowly approached.

The papers were old.

Medical records.

Identity documents.

Photographs.

The first page made her hands shake.

PATIENT: SARAH BENNETT

DATE OF BIRTH: IDENTICAL TO CURRENT RECORD

Julian frowned.

"That proves nothing."

Clara opened another document.

"This does."

A DNA report.

Julian read the result.

His expression changed.

"Impossible."

Sarah looked at him.

"What?"

He didn't answer immediately.

Because the report showed something impossible.

The DNA comparison was between:

Sarah Bennett

and

Sophia Bennett

Relationship:

Identical Twins.

Sarah stared at the paper.

Her entire world seemed to tilt.

"I had a sister?"

Clara nodded.

"You had a twin sister."

"Where is she?"

Silence.

Then Clara answered:

"Dead."

Sarah covered her mouth.

"No."

"Sophia died seven years ago."

"She was killed the night Daniel Cross died."

Julian looked toward Leo.

"And Leo?"

Clara's eyes moved to the child.

"He was Sophia's son."

The room became silent.

Leo didn't understand.

He only knew adults were talking about him again.

Sarah immediately knelt beside him.

"Leo..."

The boy looked worried.

"Am I bad?"

Sarah's heart broke.

"No."

She held his face gently.

"Never."

Clara watched them.

"You need to understand something."

"Leo was never just an inheritance."

"He was proof."

Julian turned.

"Proof of what?"

Clara looked toward the dark church entrance.

"Proof that Daniel Cross was murdered."

Seven years earlier...

Daniel Cross had discovered that Victor Blackwell wasn't simply stealing money.

He had created an international financial network.

Fake companies.

Hidden accounts.

Illegal transfers.

Daniel planned to expose everything.

But before he could...

He died.

The world believed it was an accident.

A car crash.

A tragic ending.

But Clara knew the truth.

"It wasn't an accident."

Sarah whispered:

"Who killed him?"

Clara looked at her.

"The same person who ordered Sophia's death."

Julian's voice became colder.

"Victor Blackwell."

Clara nodded.

"But Victor wasn't alone."

At that moment...

Julian's phone vibrated.

A message.

Unknown number.

He opened it.

A photograph appeared.

Victor Blackwell.

Standing outside the church.

Taken seconds ago.

Below it:

You are getting closer.

That is why everyone around you will disappear.

Julian immediately looked toward the entrance.

Everyone reacted.

Security agents moved into position.

But the doorway was empty.

Only rain.

Only darkness.

Then Leo spoke.

Quietly.

"Dad..."

Everyone turned.

Julian looked down.

"What is it?"

Leo pointed toward the photograph.

Toward Victor.

"I know him."

Sarah froze.

"You do?"

Leo nodded slowly.

"He came to Aunt Eleanor's house."

"When?"

"Before I went away."

Julian knelt.

"What did he say?"

Leo looked frightened.

"He told Aunt Eleanor..."

The boy swallowed.

"That she didn't need to be my mother."

A pause.

"He said..."

Leo's voice became smaller.

"He said my real family was already gone."

Julian's expression hardened.

"Clara."

She looked at him.

"Yes?"

"Where is Victor now?"

Clara hesitated.

That hesitation told him everything.

"You know."

"I know where he will be."

"Where?"

Clara looked at Sarah.

Then Leo.

Then Julian.

"The place where all of this started."

Two hours later...

A private jet landed on a hidden runway.

Inside the cabin, Victor Blackwell sat calmly.

He poured himself a glass of expensive wine.

Across from him sat Eleanor.

She looked exhausted.

Terrified.

"You said everything was under control."

Victor didn't look at her.

"It was."

"Then why is Leo still alive?"

Victor smiled.

"Because alive..."

He took a sip.

"...is exactly what we need."

Eleanor frowned.

"What?"

Victor placed a folder on the table.

Inside was a document.

A birth certificate.

But not Leo's.

Another child's.

Another name.

Another identity.

Eleanor stared.

"What is this?"

Victor looked out the window.

"The final piece."

"Julian Hart believes he rescued a lost child."

"He has no idea..."

Victor smiled.

"...he brought the evidence back to us."

Back at the church...

Clara handed Julian an old key.

"Where does this lead?"

She answered:

"To Daniel Cross's private archive."

"I thought it was destroyed."

"Everyone did."

"Where is it?"

Clara looked toward Leo.

"The place where Sophia hid her final message."

Sarah tightened her grip around Leo.

"Where?"

Clara whispered:

"Under the house where Leo was born."

Julian looked confused.

"That house burned down."

Clara nodded.

"Yes."

A pause.

"But only the part everyone could see."

As they prepared to leave...

Sarah looked at Julian.

"Do you believe her?"

Julian looked at Leo.

Then at the photograph of Sophia.

"I believe someone has spent seven years trying to bury the truth."

"And now..."

He folded the document.

"We are going to dig it back up."

Outside, the storm began to fade.

But far away...

A man watched the news report playing on a large screen.

The headline appeared:

BILLIONAIRE JULIAN HART CONNECTED TO MYSTERIOUS CHILD CUSTODY CASE

Victor Blackwell smiled.

"Good."

His assistant looked confused.

"Good?"

Victor nodded.

"Let them search."

"Let them find the house."

"Let them open the archive."

The assistant hesitated.

"Why?"

Victor turned toward the screen.

"Because inside that archive..."

May you like

"...is the one truth Julian Hart cannot survive."
