Chapter 13: The Choice That Defines a Man

The explosion shook the abandoned hospital.

Dust poured from the ceiling.

Old medical equipment collapsed across the hallway.

The alarms that had been silent for decades suddenly screamed through the building.

But Julian didn't move.

Not because he was frozen.

Because one sentence kept repeating inside his mind.

"Twenty years ago, you were supposed to die."

"Julian!"

Sarah's voice cut through the chaos.

He finally reacted.

"Everyone move."

The security team formed around them.

Daniel grabbed Leo and pulled him close.

Clara guided them toward the emergency exit.

But Julian stayed behind for one moment.

Looking at the archive.

Looking at the files.

Looking at the life he thought he understood.

Then he turned away.

Because he finally understood something.

The truth about himself could wait.

The people beside him could not.

They escaped through an underground passage beneath the hospital.

When they reached the surface, the entire eastern wing collapsed behind them.

The old building disappeared into smoke.

The secrets hidden inside were destroyed.

Almost.

Julian looked at Clara.

"Did Victor know we were coming?"

She nodded.

"Yes."

"How?"

Clara hesitated.

Nobody liked the answer.

"Because someone gave him the location."

Everyone became silent.

Again.

The same question.

The enemy was always one step ahead.

Later that night...

Inside Hart Manor, Julian sat alone in his office.

The letter from his mother remained on the desk.

He had read it dozens of times.

But one sentence bothered him most.

The person you protect will reveal the person you truly are.

Not money.

Not power.

Not reputation.

A choice.

That was what Victor had been studying.

Not Julian's abilities.

His humanity.

Sarah entered quietly.

"You haven't slept."

Julian didn't look away from the letter.

"Neither have you."

She sat across from him.

"I've been thinking."

"About what?"

"About all the lies."

A pause.

"How do we know anything is real?"

Julian looked at her.

Sarah continued:

"My memories."

"Leo's identity."

"Your past."

"Everything."

She looked exhausted.

"But there is one thing I know."

"What?"

She glanced toward Leo's room.

"That boy loves us."

Julian remained silent.

"And we love him."

She looked back.

"Maybe that's the only truth that matters."

The next morning...

Daniel requested a private conversation with Julian.

They stood in the garden.

Two men who had once been strangers.

Now connected by the same child.

"I owe you an apology."

Julian looked surprised.

"For what?"

"For judging you."

Daniel looked toward the house.

"When I came back, I thought you were another person trying to control Leo."

Julian said nothing.

"But I was wrong."

A pause.

"You protected my son when I couldn't."

Julian looked away.

"You were trying to survive."

Daniel shook his head.

"No."

"I was trying to find him."

"Those are different things."

The words stayed with Julian.

That afternoon...

A new message arrived.

Not from Victor.

From an unknown account.

But this time...

There was a video attached.

Julian opened it.

A young man appeared on the screen.

Around eighteen years old.

Sitting in a dark room.

Julian immediately recognized him.

Because he had seen that face before.

In old family photographs.

The young man spoke:

"Julian."

"I don't know if you remember me."

Julian froze.

Because the voice was familiar.

Impossible.

The young man continued:

"My name is Adrian Hart."

Sarah looked confused.

"Who is that?"

Julian couldn't answer.

Because Adrian Hart was his older brother.

The brother everyone told him had died before Julian was born.

The video continued.

"I know you believe I died."

"I know everyone does."

"But that's another lie Victor created."

Adrian looked directly into the camera.

"Julian..."

"You were not the first person Victor tried to protect."

"You were not the first person he studied."

A pause.

"You were the second."

Julian stood.

"What does that mean?"

The video ended.

An hour later...

Julian's investigation team discovered something shocking.

Adrian Hart was alive.

His location:

Unknown.

But more importantly...

They found a hidden connection.

Adrian had worked with the Silver Covenant.

Not as an enemy.

As a founder.

Clara looked at the information.

Her face changed.

"You know him?"

Julian turned.

"You knew about my brother?"

Clara looked away.

"Yes."

"Why didn't you tell me?"

"Because Adrian made me promise."

Julian's voice became colder.

"Where is he?"

"I don't know."

"Clara."

She looked at him.

"I truly don't know."

That night...

A single vehicle arrived outside Hart Manor.

No alarms.

No security warnings.

Because the person inside had access.

The gates opened.

The guards stepped aside.

Julian watched the security footage.

A man walked toward the entrance.

Older.

Scarred.

But alive.

Adrian Hart.

The door opened.

For several seconds, neither brother spoke.

Julian stared at the man who had haunted his childhood memories.

The brother he mourned without knowing him.

Finally:

"You're alive."

Adrian nodded.

"Yes."

"Why?"

Adrian looked toward Leo's room.

"Because I was protecting something."

Julian's expression hardened.

"What?"

Adrian answered:

"You."

Everyone gathered in the living room.

Adrian explained.

Twenty years ago, Victor began searching for people with certain connections.

Not bloodlines.

Not wealth.

Choices.

"He needed people who could influence the future."

Daniel frowned.

"Why?"

"Because Victor believed society could be controlled."

"He wanted to create a world where powerful people decided everything."

Sarah looked at him.

"And Julian?"

Adrian looked at his brother.

"Julian was the person Victor couldn't predict."

"Why?"

Adrian smiled sadly.

"Because everyone else wanted power."

"But Julian always chose responsibility."

Julian looked at him.

"Then why did you disappear?"

Adrian's expression became serious.

"Because I discovered something."

"What?"

"Victor wasn't the highest person in the organization."

Everyone froze.

Again.

The same nightmare.

A hidden person above Victor.

Adrian continued:

"Victor was only the architect."

"Someone else funded him."

"Someone else gave the orders."

Julian stepped closer.

"Who?"

Adrian looked at him.

"The person who has been controlling everything from the beginning."

A pause.

"The person who knew Daniel's family."

"The person who knew Sophia."

"The person who knew you."

Sarah whispered:

"Who?"

Adrian answered:

"Your father."

Julian froze.

"My father died."

Adrian shook his head.

"No."

Silence.

"Your father disappeared."

"Victor convinced everyone he was dead."

Julian's face changed.

"Why would he do that?"

Adrian looked toward the window.

"Because your father was the original creator of the identity program."

Nobody spoke.

The truth was becoming darker.

Leo's identity.

Sarah's identity.

Julian's identity.

All connected.

All created by the same person.

Then the lights flickered.

A message appeared on every screen.

One sentence.

Not from Victor.

Not from Clara.

Not from anyone they knew.

YOU ARE FINALLY READY TO MEET THE MAN WHO STARTED EVERYTHING.

The screen changed.

A live video appeared.

An old man sat in a dark room.

His face was partially hidden.

But Julian knew him.

Because he had seen that face his entire childhood.

The man looked directly at the camera.

"Hello, Julian."

A pause.

"I know you have many questions."

The old man smiled.

"But first..."

"Let me apologize."

"Because everything you know about your family..."

"...was created by me."

The video ended.

And for the first time in his life...

May you like

Julian Hart was afraid of meeting his own father.
