Chapter 12: The Identity Julian Never Questioned

The message remained on Julian's phone.

You should be searching for the person who created YOU.

Those words were not a threat.

They were worse.

They were a question.

A question that had no easy answer.

For years, Julian Hart believed he knew exactly who he was.

A businessman.

A son.

A man who built an empire through discipline and determination.

His entire life had been documented.

Birth records.

School records.

Family history.

Everything.

But now...

Someone had forged Leo's identity.

Someone had forged Sarah's identity.

And someone had used Julian's name.

The possibility that he was also part of the same game felt impossible.

Yet impossible had already happened too many times.

"Julian."

Sarah's voice pulled him back.

She stood in the doorway.

"You look like you've seen a ghost."

Julian locked his phone.

"Maybe I have."

She walked closer.

"What did the message say?"

He hesitated.

Then handed her the phone.

Sarah read it.

Her expression changed.

"Julian..."

"I know."

"Do you believe it?"

He looked at the document bearing his signature.

"I don't know what I believe anymore."

The next morning...

Julian ordered a complete investigation into his own history.

Not just recent years.

Everything.

His birth.

His childhood.

His parents.

His inheritance.

Every record.

The team looked uncomfortable.

Nobody wanted to tell their employer that his entire identity might be suspicious.

But Julian insisted.

"No assumptions."

"No protection."

"If there is something wrong, I want the truth."

Hours later...

The first report arrived.

His birth certificate was authentic.

His school records were authentic.

His family's history was authentic.

Sarah exhaled slightly.

"Then it's nothing."

Julian shook his head.

"No."

He pointed at the screen.

"Look closer."

The investigator zoomed in.

A small detail appeared.

The hospital where Julian was born.

St. Gabriel Children's Hospital.

Everyone became silent.

The same hospital connected to Leo.

The same hospital where identities had been altered.

Daniel stared at the screen.

"That's impossible."

Julian looked at him.

"Why?"

"Because St. Gabriel wasn't just a hospital."

"What was it?"

Daniel's face darkened.

"It was where Victor tested his identity program."

Sarah frowned.

"Identity program?"

Daniel nodded.

"Changing records."

"Creating new lives."

"Making people disappear."

Julian looked at his own birth record.

"So my birth was connected to it."

Clara slowly spoke.

"Maybe."

Everyone turned.

She continued:

"But not in the way you think."

They traveled to the abandoned St. Gabriel hospital that afternoon.

The building had been closed for years.

Broken windows.

Empty hallways.

Dust-covered medical equipment.

A place where thousands of records were supposed to have disappeared.

But Julian knew better.

Places built around secrets rarely stayed empty.

Deep inside the old hospital...

They discovered a hidden archive.

Similar to Sophia's.

But much larger.

Rows of files.

Thousands.

Names.

Dates.

Photographs.

A complete system.

Clara looked around.

"This was Victor's beginning."

Julian opened the nearest file.

Inside:

PATIENT TRANSFER PROGRAM

The document described a secret operation.

Not medical.

Not legal.

Identity reconstruction.

People who needed to vanish.

People who needed to become someone else.

Julian turned pages faster.

Then he stopped.

A name appeared.

JULIAN HART

Everyone gathered around.

The file contained information from twenty years earlier.

Subject:

Julian Hart.

Status:

Original identity confirmed.

Transfer:

Rejected.

Julian frowned.

"Rejected?"

Clara looked worried.

"What?"

She took the document.

Her expression changed.

"That's not possible."

"What?"

Clara looked at Julian.

"This file says your identity was never changed."

Julian stared.

"Then why is my name here?"

She turned another page.

And the answer appeared.

SUBJECT OBSERVATION ONLY.

Daniel looked confused.

"Observation?"

Clara nodded slowly.

"Victor wasn't replacing Julian."

"He was watching him."

Julian's expression hardened.

"Why?"

Nobody answered.

Until they found the final document.

A handwritten note.

The handwriting was old.

But clear.

Subject possesses unusual compatibility.

Continue monitoring.

Potential future asset.

Sarah looked at Julian.

"Asset?"

Julian's face became cold.

"Someone was studying me."

Suddenly...

A noise echoed through the hallway.

Everyone turned.

A person moved in the darkness.

Security agents raised their weapons.

"Show yourself!"

The figure stepped forward.

An elderly man.

Wearing a hospital uniform.

Everyone froze.

"Who are you?"

The old man looked at Julian.

His eyes filled with fear.

"You finally came back."

Julian frowned.

"Back?"

The man nodded.

"You don't remember."

"I was told you wouldn't."

The old man introduced himself.

Dr. Henry Vale.

Former director of St. Gabriel Hospital.

The last person who knew the complete truth.

Julian stepped forward.

"What happened here?"

The doctor looked at him.

"Twenty years ago..."

"We discovered something."

"What?"

The doctor glanced at Leo.

Then Sarah.

Then finally Julian.

"Some people are born with powerful connections."

"Some people inherit money."

"Some inherit secrets."

A pause.

"But you..."

He looked directly at Julian.

"You inherited a promise."

Julian's expression tightened.

"What promise?"

The doctor opened an old drawer.

Inside was a sealed envelope.

His name was written on it.

For Julian Hart.

"Who wrote this?"

The doctor answered:

"Your mother."

Julian froze.

"My mother died when I was young."

The doctor nodded.

"Yes."

"But before she died..."

"She asked us to protect you."

Sarah looked confused.

"Protect him from what?"

The doctor looked toward the darkness outside.

"From Victor Blackwell."

Julian opened the envelope.

Inside was a letter.

His mother's handwriting.

A handwriting he hadn't seen in decades.

"Julian,

If you are reading this, then the truth has finally reached you.

I wanted to tell you everything.

But keeping you alive mattered more.

Your father discovered what Victor was building.

He tried to stop him.

Many people died because of that.

Including people you loved.

You were never supposed to become involved.

But Victor always believed you would eventually become the key.

Not because of your wealth.

Not because of your power.

Because of who you are.

The person you protect will reveal the person you truly are."

Julian lowered the letter.

"What does that mean?"

Nobody answered.

Then the old doctor spoke.

"It means Victor wasn't interested in controlling you."

"He was interested in finding out what you would choose."

Julian looked confused.

"Choose what?"

The doctor looked toward Leo.

"Whether you would become like him..."

"Or whether you would become the person who saves others from him."

Before Julian could respond...

Every light inside the hospital went dark.

A familiar voice echoed through the speakers.

Victor.

"Congratulations, Julian."

"You finally found your file."

The security team moved instantly.

Victor continued.

"But you still haven't found the most important one."

Julian looked up.

"Which one?"

A pause.

Then Victor answered:

"The file that explains why your parents chose you."

The speakers crackled.

"And why, twenty years ago..."

"You were supposed to die."

The hospital shook.

An explosion somewhere above.

Dust fell from the ceiling.

Sarah grabbed Leo.

Daniel moved toward them.

Julian stared into the darkness.

Because the enemy was no longer trying to take Leo.

No longer trying to erase Sarah.

Now...

Victor was attacking the foundation of Julian's entire existence.

And for the first time...

Julian wondered:

Was he protecting Leo because he chose to?

May you like

Or because someone had designed him to?
