CHAPTER 14 THE MOTHER WHO NEVER DIED

CHAPTER 14

THE MOTHER WHO NEVER DIED

Nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

The image remained frozen on every screen inside Blackhaven.

A woman standing beneath the symbol of the Black Crown.

A woman everyone believed had died twenty-four years ago.

Emily's mother.

Anna Carter.

Her face.

Her eyes.

Her smile.

Everything was exactly as Emily remembered.

Except one thing.

She was alive.

Emily stepped closer to the screen.

"No..."

Her voice cracked.

"That's impossible."

Harold looked away.

Arthur closed his eyes.

Eleanor remained silent.

And that silence told Emily everything.

"You knew."

Nobody answered.

Emily turned around.

"You all knew."

Harold finally spoke.

"Yes."

The word felt heavier than any confession.

Emily stared at him.

"My entire life..."

Her voice trembled.

"You let me believe she was dead."

Harold lowered his head.

"I had to."

Emily laughed bitterly.

"Everyone always says that."

She looked around.

"Everyone always has a reason."

A pause.

"But nobody ever thinks about what it does to me."

The screen changed.

The image of Anna disappeared.

A video began playing.

Her mother sat in a dark room.

Older.

Different.

But alive.

Her eyes immediately filled with tears.

"Emily."

The moment her mother spoke her name...

Emily broke.

She covered her mouth.

Because after twenty-four years...

She heard the voice she thought she would never hear again.

Anna continued:

"If you are watching this..."

She paused.

"I know what you must be feeling."

Emily whispered:

"How..."

Anna looked directly into the camera.

"I know you think I abandoned you."

A tear rolled down Anna's cheek.

"I didn't."

The room became silent.

Anna continued.

"When the Phoenix Council discovered what your father and I had done..."

She looked down.

"We had two choices."

"Run."

"Or fight."

Emily stared.

Her mother continued:

"Your father chose to fight."

"I chose to disappear."

Daniel looked confused.

"Why fake her death?"

Arthur answered quietly.

"Because Anna was the only person the Black Crown feared."

Everyone looked at him.

Arthur continued:

"She knew how they operated."

"She knew their leaders."

"She knew their weaknesses."

Emily looked at the screen.

"My mother fought them?"

Arthur nodded.

"Alone."

Anna's recording continued.

"Emily, if you're seeing this..."

"Then the Black Crown has revealed itself."

She took a breath.

"Which means they are desperate."

A pause.

"They are no longer hiding."

Emily wiped her tears.

"Why?"

Anna looked directly into the camera.

"Because you are the only person who can end them."

The Black Crown voice suddenly interrupted.

"Emotional reunion complete."

Everyone turned.

The distorted voice returned.

"Now comes the important part."

Emily looked upward.

"What do you want?"

A pause.

The voice answered:

"Your choice."

The screen split into two images.

On the left:

A peaceful world.

Governments cooperating.

Criminal organizations destroyed.

Hidden corruption exposed.

On the right:

Chaos.

Economic collapse.

Wars.

Confusion.

The voice continued:

"The Phoenix Council controlled information."

"The Black Crown controls stability."

"Without us..."

"The world falls apart."

Emily stared.

"You expect me to believe you are necessary?"

"Not believe."

A pause.

"Choose."

Daniel stepped beside Emily.

"Don't listen."

She looked at him.

"They've manipulated you your entire life."

Daniel looked toward the screens.

"They want you to think you only have two options."

Emily nodded slowly.

"That's what my father always said."

Daniel looked at her.

"What?"

Emily remembered.

Another forgotten conversation.

Her father kneeling beside her when she was young.

"Emily..."

"Powerful people always create two choices."

"But the smartest person in the room creates a third."

Emily looked at the Black Crown symbol.

Then at Lucas and Sophie.

Then at the files.

The secrets.

The lies.

The generations of manipulation.

Finally...

She smiled.

A small, calm smile.

The Black Crown voice changed.

"You remembered."

Emily nodded.

"Yes."

"What did you remember?"

She stepped toward the main terminal.

"The third option."

Everyone watched as Emily placed her hand on the control panel.

The machine scanned her fingerprint.

Then her eyes.

Then...

Something deeper.

A memory signature.

The system recognized her.

A message appeared:

WELCOME BACK, EMILY VOSS.

Daniel looked shocked.

"Voss?"

Emily stared at the name.

She knew.

Her entire identity had been built from fragments.

Carter.

Bennett.

Voss.

Three families.

Three enemies.

Three lies.

The system opened.

Thousands of files appeared.

But Emily didn't look at them.

She searched for one file.

The original file.

PROJECT PHOENIX.

Then:

PROJECT DAUGHTER.

Then:

PROJECT CROWN.

Finally...

A hidden folder.

Created by her.

Not by her father.

Not by the Council.

By Emily herself.

The title:

FINAL SOLUTION

Alexander stepped forward.

"What is that?"

Emily looked at him.

"You don't remember."

His expression changed.

"What?"

She opened the file.

A video appeared.

A younger Emily.

Sixteen years old.

Standing in front of the same camera.

But this Emily looked completely different.

Confident.

Cold.

Certain.

The younger Emily spoke:

"If you're watching this..."

She smiled slightly.

"Then everyone failed."

Present Emily stared.

Because she remembered making the video.

The younger version continued:

"The Phoenix Council."

"The Black Crown."

"The families."

"All of them."

"They believe they created me."

A pause.

"They are wrong."

The younger Emily looked directly into the camera.

"I created the plan."

Daniel whispered:

"What plan?"

The recording continued.

"My goal is not to destroy the Phoenix."

"Not to replace the Black Crown."

"Not to rule."

A pause.

"My goal is to remove the need for anyone to rule."

The room fell silent.

The younger Emily continued:

"Every secret organization eventually becomes the same."

"They protect themselves."

"They forget why they existed."

"So I created a final protocol."

The file displayed a name.

PROJECT DAWN

Harold's face changed.

"No."

Emily looked at him.

"You knew about this."

Harold slowly nodded.

"I was hoping you'd never activate it."

"Why?"

His eyes became sad.

"Because once you do..."

"...there is no going back."

The Black Crown voice suddenly became louder.

"STOP."

For the first time...

The voice sounded afraid.

Emily looked up.

"You don't control this anymore."

The voice answered:

"You have no idea what you are activating."

Emily placed her hand on the final button.

"I know exactly."

Outside Blackhaven...

Every screen around the world suddenly changed.

News stations.

Phones.

Government monitors.

Billboards.

Everything.

A single message appeared.

PROJECT DAWN HAS BEGUN.

Inside Blackhaven...

The underground station started shutting down.

The archives locked.

The weapons systems disappeared.

The Phoenix symbols faded.

The Black Crown servers went offline.

One by one...

Every hidden organization lost control.

Alexander stared in horror.

"What did you do?"

Emily looked at him.

"I removed the weapon."

"What weapon?"

She looked around.

"Information."

The final screen displayed one last message:

ALL CLASSIFIED FILES WILL BE RELEASED IN 24 HOURS.

Daniel looked at Emily.

"You're exposing everything?"

Emily nodded.

"Yes."

"Even your family?"

"Especially my family."

Then another message appeared.

Not from Emily.

Not from the system.

From Anna.

Her mother.

A final recording.

Emily pressed play.

Anna appeared.

But this time...

She wasn't alone.

Standing beside her was a child.

A teenage girl.

Emily's face went pale.

Because the girl looked exactly like her.

Anna spoke:

"Emily."

"There is one more thing you need to know."

The teenage girl stepped forward.

Anna continued:

"You were never my only child."

The girl looked into the camera.

And whispered:

"Hello, sister."

May you like

The screen went black.
