CHAPTER 13 — THE SIN OF THE WEAVER BLOODLINE

CHAPTER 13 — THE SIN OF THE WEAVER BLOODLINE
Lucas stared at the document in his hands.
The paper was old.
The ink had faded.
The edges were worn from years of being hidden.
But one thing remained clear.
The signature.
Edward Weaver.
His grandfather.
A man Lucas had only known through stories.
A successful businessman.
A respected figure.
A man whose portrait hung proudly in the old family house.
A man everyone described as honorable.
Now his name appeared at the beginning of a chain of betrayal that nearly destroyed everything.
Lucas slowly lowered the document.
“I don’t understand.”
Thomas stood beside him.
“I know.”
“Grandfather died before I was old enough to remember him.”
“Yes.”
“Everyone said he built this family.”
Thomas looked at the papers.
“He did.”
“Then why is his name here?”
Thomas took a deep breath.
“Because building something and protecting it are two different things.”
The words echoed inside the hidden room.
A room filled with decades of secrets.
Florence sat quietly nearby.
She had spent her entire life carrying this burden.
Lucas could see it now.
The exhaustion.
The fear.
The reason she always avoided talking about the past.
She wasn’t hiding because she was guilty.
She was hiding because she knew the truth could destroy everything.
“Mom,” Lucas said softly.
“How much did you know?”
Florence looked at him.
“Enough.”
“Enough to know Richard was dangerous?”
“Yes.”
“Enough to know Gwendolyn was involved?”
“No.”
Her voice became sad.
“I truly believed she loved you.”
Lucas looked away.
That hurt more than he expected.
Because even after everything...
His mother still protected his heart.
Thomas opened another file.
“This is where everything began.”
Inside were old business records.
A company agreement.
A partnership contract.
And a letter.
“Your grandfather built Weaver Industries,” Thomas explained.
“He started with nothing.”
Lucas nodded.
“That’s what everyone said.”
“And it was true.”
Thomas looked at the document.
“But success changed him.”
“How?”
“He became obsessed with protecting the family name.”
“Protecting?”
“Yes.”
“But sometimes people who want to protect a legacy end up destroying the people inside it.”
Lucas read through the documents.
The company had grown rapidly.
Real estate.
Construction.
Investments.
But there was one hidden division.
A private investment fund.
One that only Edward controlled.
“What was this?”
Thomas looked serious.
“Insurance.”
“For what?”
“In case the family ever collapsed.”
Lucas frowned.
“So he prepared for problems?”
“Yes.”
“Then why is that bad?”
Thomas pointed at the documents.
“Because he didn’t just hide money.”
“He hid control.”
The deeper Lucas read, the more disturbing it became.
Edward Weaver had created a system where the family fortune could never truly leave the Weaver bloodline.
No matter what happened.
No matter who owned the companies.
No matter what legal documents existed.
The real control remained with whoever held the hidden agreements.
“The vault,” Lucas whispered.
Thomas nodded.
“The vault contains those agreements.”
“The real ownership structure.”
“The original contracts.”
“The evidence.”
Lucas looked at him.
“So Richard wasn’t trying to steal the property.”
“No.”
“He was trying to find the documents that gave him control over everything.”
Thomas nodded.
“Exactly.”
Then Lucas found something unexpected.
A letter addressed to Thomas.
He opened it carefully.
The handwriting belonged to Edward.
His grandfather.
The first sentence immediately caught his attention.
"Thomas, if you are reading this, then you finally understand the price of carrying the Weaver name."
Lucas continued.
"A family fortune is not measured by money.
It is measured by the people who refuse to destroy each other for it.
I failed to teach that lesson.
I created a system built on suspicion.
A system where everyone fought to prove they deserved power.
Richard will come for what he believes belongs to him.
But he is not the only danger.
The greatest threat to this family will always be the person who believes love is just another transaction."
Lucas stopped.
The sentence felt personal.
Too personal.
Thomas looked at him.
Lucas continued.
"Protect your son.
Do not let him inherit our mistakes.
The Weaver name has carried enough darkness.
Someone must be brave enough to end it."
The room became silent.
Lucas closed the letter.
For years, everyone had been fighting over money.
But his grandfather had known something.
Money was never the real problem.
The problem was what people became when they believed money mattered more than family.
Richard.
Gwendolyn.
Martin.
Even Edward himself.
All of them had made choices because they feared losing something.
Power.
Security.
Status.
Control.
And Florence almost paid the price.
Suddenly, Lucas’s phone rang.
Daniel.
Lucas answered.
“What happened?”
Daniel sounded urgent.
“We have a problem.”
“What kind?”
“The police investigation found something.”
Lucas stood.
“What?”
“Richard’s accounts.”
“And?”
“They’re not the only ones.”
Lucas frowned.
“What do you mean?”
“There are transfers connected to another person.”
“Who?”
A pause.
Then Daniel said:
“Gwendolyn.”
Lucas closed his eyes.
He had hoped.
Somewhere deep inside...
He had hoped she was only manipulated.
But the truth was always cruel.
“What did she do?”
Daniel continued.
“She wasn’t just receiving money.”
“She was sending it.”
Lucas looked at Thomas.
“And where?”
Daniel answered:
“To an account created under a fake identity.”
“Whose identity?”
Another pause.
Then:
“Your mother’s maiden name.”
Lucas froze.
“What?”
“Someone was moving money while pretending to be Florence.”
The room became cold.
Because that meant something.
Gwendolyn had not only helped Richard.
She had created her own operation.
She had her own secrets.
That evening, Lucas met Gwendolyn.
She was being questioned but had not been arrested.
When she saw him, she looked broken.
“Lucas.”
He remained standing.
“Why?”
She looked down.
“I know what you’re going to ask.”
“Do you?”
“Yes.”
“Then answer.”
A long silence.
“I was scared.”
Lucas laughed softly.
“Everyone says that.”
“I was scared of losing everything.”
“What did you think you would lose?”
“My future.”
Lucas stared.
“You had a future with me.”
She looked at him.
“I didn’t believe that anymore.”
“Why?”
She swallowed.
“Because Richard convinced me your family would eventually destroy me.”
Lucas shook his head.
“So you destroyed my mother first?”
Tears filled her eyes.
“No.”
“Yes.”
His voice remained calm.
And that calm hurt more than anger.
“I watched you hurt someone who loved you.”
“I watched you pretend.”
“I watched you smile while my mother was afraid of you.”
Gwendolyn covered her face.
“I regret it.”
Lucas looked at her.
“Regret doesn’t erase what happened.”
“I know.”
“Then why did you do it?”
She looked up.
And whispered:
“Because Richard showed me something.”
“What?”
“A document.”
“What document?”
Gwendolyn hesitated.
“A document that said your father’s death was caused by someone inside your family.”
Lucas froze.
“Who?”
She looked terrified.
“I don’t know.”
“What do you mean?”
“I only saw the first page.”
“What did it say?”
Gwendolyn whispered:
"The person responsible for Thomas Weaver’s death is still alive."
Lucas left the meeting with more questions than answers.
The investigation was expanding.
The family secrets were deeper than he imagined.
And now a new possibility appeared.
Thomas had survived.
Richard had betrayed him.
But someone else may have tried to kill him.
Someone still hidden.
Someone who had never been exposed.
When Lucas returned to the Weaver estate, Thomas was waiting.
“You found something.”
Lucas looked at him.
“Yes.”
“Someone may have tried to kill you.”
Thomas became silent.
“Who?”
“That’s what I’m trying to discover.”
Thomas looked worried.
“Lucas.”
“What?”
“You need to understand something.”
“What?”
“If Edward’s warning was correct…”
“The person behind everything may not be someone chasing the fortune.”
Lucas frowned.
“Then what are they chasing?”
Thomas looked toward the hidden room.
“The truth.”
“And why?”
Thomas answered quietly:
“Because the truth can destroy a family faster than any amount of money.”
At that moment, every light in the house suddenly went out.
Darkness covered the room.
Then Lucas heard something.
A sound from upstairs.
A door opening.
Someone was inside the Weaver estate.
Someone who should not be there.
Thomas whispered:
“We’re not alone.”
Lucas reached for his phone.
And in the darkness...
A voice spoke.
A familiar voice.
A voice from the past.
“Lucas.”
He froze.
Because he knew that voice.
May you like
It belonged to someone who had been dead for fifteen years.
