Chapter 9: The Woman Behind The Prison Door

For eleven months, Alejandro Moretti believed he had lost Isabella.

He mourned a woman who might have been dead.

He hated himself for every argument they had.

Every harsh word.

Every moment he chose business over her.

But now he knew the truth.

Isabella was alive.

And someone had been keeping her hidden.

Someone who had stood beside him every single day.

Marco DeLuca.

The man Alejandro once called his brother.

The mansion was no longer a home.

It was a battlefield.

Every hallway contained a secret.

Every room contained a lie.

Every person could be an enemy.

Alejandro stood in the center of his office while his most trusted guards waited.

“Find Marco.”

Nobody moved.

“Boss…”

Alejandro looked at Victor.

The doctor was weak but conscious.

“Where would he take her?”

Victor hesitated.

“You won’t like the answer.”

“I didn’t ask if I would like it.”

Victor looked down.

“He would take her somewhere connected to The Vipers.”

Alejandro’s expression hardened.

“The Vipers are gone.”

Victor shook his head.

“No.”

A pause.

“They changed.”

For decades, The Vipers had survived by doing one thing.

Adapting.

When governments changed, they adapted.

When enemies appeared, they adapted.

When people thought they were dead...

They disappeared deeper.

Victor explained that Marco had never truly worked for Alejandro.

Not completely.

He was assigned to him.

A guardian.

A watcher.

A person placed beside Alejandro to control his actions.

But something changed.

“What?” Alejandro asked.

Victor looked at him.

“Isabella.”

The name alone changed the atmosphere.

“She was the first person who made Marco question his mission.”

Alejandro frowned.

“Marco cared about her?”

Victor nodded.

“More than he should have.”

Years ago, before Isabella disappeared, she discovered Marco’s true identity.

She could have exposed him.

She could have destroyed him.

But she didn’t.

Instead, she confronted him.

And she asked one question.

"Are you protecting Alejandro, or are you protecting The Vipers?"

Marco never answered.

Because he didn’t know.

For the first time in his life, Marco questioned everything.

The organization.

His orders.

His loyalty.

And Alejandro.

Meanwhile, somewhere beneath the city...

Isabella opened her eyes.

The room was dark.

Cold.

The walls were made of concrete.

A single light hung above her.

She had been here for weeks.

Maybe months.

Time meant nothing anymore.

The only thing she knew was that Marco had failed.

He had tried to keep Alejandro away.

But Alejandro always found the truth.

That was his greatest strength.

And his greatest weakness.

The door opened.

Marco entered.

For a moment, neither spoke.

Then Isabella smiled sadly.

“You look tired.”

Marco stopped.

“You knew he would find Emma.”

“Yes.”

“You planned everything.”

“Yes.”

Marco’s expression became angry.

“You used me.”

Isabella looked at him.

“No.”

A pause.

“I trusted you.”

Those words hurt him more than anger.

Marco walked closer.

“You knew what would happen.”

“I knew Alejandro would search.”

“You knew he would discover the truth.”

“Yes.”

“And you knew I would become the enemy.”

Isabella looked away.

“Because you chose to.”

Marco became silent.

That was the one thing he hated.

She was right.

He had choices.

He just spent years pretending he didn’t.

“Why didn’t you tell him?”

Marco asked.

“Tell him what?”

“The truth about Emma.”

Isabella closed her eyes.

“Because knowing the truth too early would have killed him.”

Marco laughed bitterly.

“You still protect him.”

“Yes.”

“After everything?”

Isabella looked at him.

“You don’t understand.”

“No.”

Marco stepped closer.

“I don’t.”

His voice became colder.

“Because I watched him destroy himself.”

Silence.

“You saw the good side of Alejandro.”

Marco pointed at himself.

“I saw the monster.”

Isabella looked at him.

“And you became worse because you were afraid of becoming him.”

The words hit.

Because they were true.

Back at the mansion, Emma found something hidden in Isabella’s old room.

A small diary.

The final diary Isabella wrote before disappearing.

She opened it carefully.

The first page contained only one sentence.

"If Alejandro ever finds this, it means he survived."

Emma turned the page.

The entries revealed something shocking.

Isabella had not planned to escape.

She had planned to expose someone.

Someone even more dangerous than Marco.

Someone who controlled The Vipers from the shadows.

A name appeared again and again.

Lorenzo Moretti.

Alejandro’s dead father.

But that was impossible.

He had been dead for fifteen years.

Emma rushed to find Alejandro.

“Look.”

She handed him the diary.

Alejandro read.

His expression slowly changed.

Because Isabella had written:

"Lorenzo is not dead."

The room became silent.

Emma whispered:

“What?”

Alejandro shook his head.

“No.”

But his voice lacked confidence.

The diary continued:

"The man who died was not Lorenzo."

"It was a body double."

Alejandro stopped reading.

His father.

Alive.

The impossible was happening again.

Then the final entry appeared.

Written one day before Isabella vanished.

"I discovered the person controlling everything."

"The person who erased Alejandro’s memories."

"The person who created Emma’s new identity."

A tear fell onto the page.

Because the next words were impossible.

"It was Alejandro himself."

At that exact moment...

The mansion doors opened.

Every guard turned.

A man walked inside.

Older.

Gray hair.

A black suit.

Everyone froze.

Alejandro slowly looked up.

His blood ran cold.

Because he knew that face.

A face he had seen only in old photographs.

A face he believed belonged to the dead.

The man smiled.

“Hello, son.”

Alejandro couldn’t breathe.

“Father…”

Lorenzo Moretti looked around the mansion.

Then smiled.

“You’ve grown.”

Nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

Because the dead man had returned.

May you like

And he had come home.

To be continued...
