Chapter 3: The Woman Who Knew Too Much

Alejandro Moretti had spent eleven months searching for answers.

He searched abandoned buildings.

He bribed informants.

He questioned enemies.

He followed every rumor, every whisper, every impossible story connected to Isabella’s disappearance.

But never once did he consider the most terrifying possibility.

That Isabella was alive.

And that she had been close enough to watch him.

The letter trembled slightly between his fingers.

Not because Alejandro was afraid.

Because he was trying to understand.

The woman he loved had left him a message.

Not a goodbye.

Not a plea for help.

A warning.

"Alejandro, the woman you love betrayed you."

Those words had only one meaning.

Isabella knew something.

Something about him.

Something about the people around him.

Something worth disappearing for.

The entire mansion remained silent.

The servants avoided looking at Alejandro.

The guards waited for orders.

And Emma stood frozen, staring at the letter.

“You knew about me?”

Her voice was quiet.

Alejandro looked at her.

“No.”

“But she did.”

He didn’t answer.

That scared Emma more than anything.

For the first time since meeting him, Alejandro Moretti had no explanation.

No plan.

No control.

The most powerful man in the city was standing in the middle of his own mansion with the same question everyone else had.

Where was Isabella?

The elderly servant, Maria, sat in the living room.

She had worked for the Moretti family for over thirty years.

She had seen Alejandro grow from a reckless young man into a feared businessman.

She had seen his enemies disappear.

She had seen his victories.

But she had also seen something nobody else knew.

She had seen Isabella slowly lose faith in him.

“Tell me everything,” Alejandro said.

Maria looked down.

“I promised Isabella I would only speak when the girl returned.”

“She’s here.”

Maria looked at Emma.

“No.”

Her answer shocked everyone.

“No?”

Maria shook her head.

“She’s here because Isabella wanted her to be here.”

Emma stepped forward.

“What does that mean?”

Maria looked at her carefully.

“It means you were never a replacement.”

The room became colder.

“You were always part of Isabella’s plan.”

Emma felt a strange fear crawl through her.

“I don’t understand.”

“Neither did Isabella at first.”

Maria took a deep breath.

“Years ago, before she married Alejandro, Isabella discovered something.”

Alejandro’s expression changed.

“What?”

Maria looked at him.

“She discovered that someone inside your organization was planning to destroy you.”

Alejandro immediately became alert.

“My organization?”

“Yes.”

“That’s impossible.”

Maria looked at him sadly.

“Is it?”

Silence.

Because Alejandro knew.

In his world, impossible things happened every day.

The Moretti empire was built on loyalty.

That was what Alejandro always believed.

His men protected him.

His advisors respected him.

His closest friends stood beside him.

But power created something dangerous.

People who wanted what you had.

And over the years, Alejandro had made many enemies.

But Isabella had discovered something different.

The enemy wasn’t outside.

It was inside.

Someone close.

Someone trusted.

Someone who knew every weakness in Alejandro’s empire.

“Who?” Alejandro asked.

Maria shook her head.

“Isabella never told me the name.”

“Why?”

“Because she believed anyone could be listening.”

Alejandro looked around the room.

Suddenly, every person felt like a possible enemy.

“She left another message,” Maria continued.

Alejandro turned.

“Where?”

“She told me there was one place nobody would search.”

“Where?”

Maria looked toward the old family library.

“The room beneath the library.”

Everyone became confused.

Alejandro frowned.

“There is no room beneath the library.”

Maria looked at him.

“That’s what Isabella wanted everyone to believe.”

The hidden room was discovered twenty minutes later.

Behind an old bookshelf, there was a mechanism hidden inside the wall.

Alejandro had lived in the mansion for years.

He never knew it existed.

That fact bothered him.

Because it meant Isabella had discovered secrets inside his own home that he didn’t know about.

The door opened slowly.

Dust filled the air.

Inside was a small room.

No weapons.

No money.

No stolen documents.

Only photographs.

Hundreds of them.

Alejandro walked inside.

Then stopped.

Because every photograph showed the same thing.

Him.

His businesses.

His meetings.

His employees.

His daily routine.

Someone had been watching him for years.

Emma picked up a photo.

“This was taken before I met you.”

Alejandro looked at the date.

Five years ago.

Another photo.

Three years ago.

Another.

One year ago.

Someone had been tracking every movement around him.

Then Emma found something.

A photograph hidden beneath the others.

Her hands froze.

“Alejandro…”

He turned.

“What?”

She slowly handed him the picture.

His face changed.

The photograph showed a young girl.

A teenage girl.

Standing beside Isabella.

And the girl had the same face as Emma.

But that was impossible.

Because the date on the photograph was twenty years old.

Emma looked terrified.

“That’s not me.”

Alejandro stared at the image.

No.

It couldn’t be.

Unless...

There was another explanation.

A darker one.

He looked at Maria.

“Who is she?”

Maria’s face turned pale.

“I don’t know.”

“Don’t lie to me.”

“I swear.”

Alejandro grabbed another document from the table.

A birth record.

A name.

A name that made his entire world collapse.

Emma Valdez.

The same name.

The same face.

The same mark.

But the birth date was impossible.

Because Emma should have been...

Twenty years older.

That night, Alejandro couldn’t sleep.

Too many questions.

Too many lies.

Too many secrets.

Emma sat across from him in the study.

“You think I’m involved.”

Alejandro looked at her.

“I think someone wanted you here.”

“Why?”

“I don’t know.”

Emma looked frustrated.

“You brought me into your home. You asked me to pretend to be your wife. Now you’re acting like I’m some kind of threat.”

Alejandro remained silent.

Because she was right.

But then Emma asked the one question he didn’t expect.

“Did Isabella ever tell you about a sister?”

Alejandro froze.

“What?”

“A sister.”

“Isabella didn’t have one.”

Emma looked down.

“Then why do I remember her?”

The room went silent.

Alejandro slowly stood.

“What did you say?”

Emma held her head.

Images flashed through her mind.

A woman.

A house.

A voice.

A name.

“Isabella…”

Alejandro’s face changed.

“You knew her?”

“I don’t know.”

Emma looked terrified.

“But when I saw her picture…”

She whispered:

“I remembered being there.”

Before Alejandro could ask another question, his phone rang.

Unknown number.

He answered.

A distorted voice spoke.

“Congratulations, Alejandro.”

His grip tightened.

“Who is this?”

“You finally found the girl.”

Alejandro looked at Emma.

“Where is Isabella?”

A quiet laugh came through the phone.

“You still don’t understand.”

The voice became colder.

“Isabella didn’t disappear from you.”

A pause.

“She disappeared to protect you.”

Alejandro’s eyes narrowed.

“Protect me from who?”

The answer came immediately.

“From yourself.”

The call ended.

Alejandro stared at the phone.

Then another message appeared.

A picture.

A recent picture.

Isabella.

Alive.

Standing outside a building.

And beside her...

Was someone Alejandro trusted more than anyone.

His closest friend.

The man who had stood beside him for fifteen years.

The man who knew all his secrets.

Marco.

Alejandro slowly lowered the phone.

Because the first betrayal had been revealed.

May you like

And it came from the person standing closest to him.

To be continued...
