Chapter 6: The Warehouse of Forgotten Secrets

The abandoned warehouse stood at the edge of the city like a forgotten grave.
No lights.
No guards.
No movement.
Just a giant concrete structure surrounded by empty land and broken machinery.
A place where secrets disappeared.
A place where people who knew too much stopped existing.
And tonight...
Alejandro Moretti was walking straight into it.
“Boss, this is a terrible idea.”
Marco’s replacement, Victor, stood beside the car, looking toward the warehouse.
Alejandro didn’t answer.
His eyes remained fixed on the building.
For eleven months, he had searched for Isabella.
He had imagined hundreds of possibilities.
Maybe she had been kidnapped.
Maybe she had escaped.
Maybe she had been murdered.
But never once did he imagine this.
That she had left clues.
That she had planned everything.
That someone close to him had been hiding the truth.
Alejandro looked at Emma sitting inside the car.
“You don’t have to come.”
Emma looked at him.
“You already said that.”
“And?”
“And I already ignored you.”
For a moment, Alejandro almost smiled.
Almost.
Because Isabella used to do the same thing.
She never obeyed him when she thought he was wrong.
Emma noticed his expression.
“You saw her in me again.”
Alejandro looked away.
“Don’t.”
“Don’t what?”
“Don’t try to become someone you’re not.”
Emma was quiet.
Then she replied:
“Maybe I’m not trying.”
That sentence stayed in Alejandro’s mind.
Because what if she wasn’t pretending?
What if Emma wasn’t becoming Isabella?
What if Isabella had always been connected to Emma?
They entered the warehouse at midnight.
The door opened easily.
Too easily.
Alejandro immediately became suspicious.
A trap that was too obvious was usually hiding something deeper.
The inside was empty.
Dust covered the floor.
Old machines stood against the walls.
No enemies.
No weapons.
Nothing.
Until Emma stopped.
“Wait.”
Alejandro turned.
“What?”
She looked toward the corner.
“I’ve been here before.”
Alejandro froze.
“You remember?”
“No.”
Emma touched her forehead.
“I feel like I remember.”
She walked forward slowly.
Her steps were uncertain.
Like someone following a road they had walked years ago.
She reached an old metal door.
Behind it.
A small room.
Alejandro opened it.
And what they found inside changed everything.
The room contained no money.
No weapons.
No illegal documents.
Only medical equipment.
Old files.
And photographs.
Hundreds of photographs.
Alejandro picked up the first one.
A young Emma.
Maybe seven or eight years old.
Standing beside Isabella.
His hands tightened.
Another picture.
Emma inside a hospital.
Another.
Isabella arguing with a doctor.
Another.
A document with a familiar name.
Project ECHO.
Alejandro’s expression changed.
He had heard that name before.
Years ago.
From his father.
A secret research program.
A program designed to manipulate memories.
Everyone thought it was destroyed.
But apparently...
It survived.
Emma picked up one of the files.
Inside was her own medical record.
She read the first page.
Then her face became pale.
“What?”
Alejandro looked at her.
She handed him the paper.
The report said:
Subject: Emma Valdez
Age: 8
Condition: Severe trauma after witnessing criminal activity.
Procedure recommended: Memory suppression therapy.
Alejandro looked up.
“Memory suppression?”
Emma nodded slowly.
“I wasn’t born without memories.”
Her voice trembled.
“They were taken from me.”
Suddenly, a sound echoed through the warehouse.
A slow clap.
Everyone turned.
A man stepped out from the darkness.
Older.
Elegant.
Calm.
Someone who looked more like a businessman than a criminal.
But Alejandro recognized him immediately.
His blood turned cold.
“Adrian.”
The man smiled.
“Hello, Alejandro.”
Adrian Vale.
The man who had disappeared fifteen years ago.
The founder of The Vipers.
The organization everyone believed was dead.
Alejandro raised his weapon.
“You’re supposed to be dead.”
Adrian laughed.
“People like us don’t die easily.”
Emma looked confused.
“You know him?”
Alejandro didn’t take his eyes off Adrian.
“He was my father’s greatest enemy.”
Adrian smiled.
“And your father’s greatest mistake.”
The room became tense.
Alejandro stepped forward.
“What did you do to Isabella?”
Adrian tilted his head.
“Still protecting her?”
“She’s my wife.”
“No.”
Adrian smiled.
“She was your weakness.”
Alejandro’s hand tightened around his weapon.
“You’re lying.”
“Am I?”
Adrian walked around the room.
“You built an empire because you believed power protected people.”
He looked at Emma.
“But Isabella discovered the truth.”
“What truth?”
“That your empire was never yours.”
Silence.
Adrian continued.
“Your father made a deal with The Vipers decades ago.”
Alejandro stared.
“My father?”
“Yes.”
“That’s impossible.”
“Again with that word.”
Adrian smiled.
“You use it whenever reality becomes uncomfortable.”
Emma looked at the old photographs.
Suddenly, another memory appeared.
A man.
A room.
A voice.
A voice she recognized.
Alejandro’s father.
“You are important, Emma.”
The little girl cried.
“Why?”
“Because someday, you will decide whether Alejandro lives or dies.”
Emma dropped the photograph.
Alejandro noticed.
“What happened?”
She looked at him.
“I remembered something.”
“What?”
Her voice shook.
“Your father knew me.”
Alejandro went completely still.
“My father died twenty years ago.”
“I know.”
“Then how?”
Emma whispered:
“I don’t know.”
Adrian watched them carefully.
Then he said something that made Alejandro’s entire world collapse.
“Your father didn’t die naturally.”
Alejandro looked at him.
“What?”
“He was killed.”
“By who?”
Adrian smiled.
“Ask yourself.”
A pause.
“Who benefited the most from his death?”
Alejandro’s mind raced.
His father’s death.
Isabella’s disappearance.
Emma’s erased memories.
Marco’s betrayal.
All connected.
But how?
Then Adrian revealed the final piece.
“Isabella found out the truth.”
Alejandro stared.
“What truth?”
Adrian stepped closer.
“She discovered that the person who ordered your father’s death…”
A long pause.
“…was you.”
The warehouse went silent.
Emma looked shocked.
Alejandro felt the world stop.
“What did you say?”
Adrian smiled.
“Your memories were altered too, Alejandro.”
“No.”
“Yes.”
“You’re lying.”
“Am I?”
Adrian pointed at Emma.
“She was not the only experiment.”
Alejandro’s breathing became heavier.
“The night Isabella disappeared…”
Adrian’s voice became a whisper.
“You were there.”
A sound suddenly came from behind them.
A gunshot.
Everyone turned.
Adrian fell backward.
Blood spread across his shirt.
Someone had shot him.
But there was no attacker.
Only a shadow disappearing through the broken window.
Alejandro ran toward Adrian.
“Who shot you?”
Adrian grabbed his arm.
With his final strength, he whispered:
“The person who erased your memories…”
A cough.
“Is still inside your mansion.”
Then Adrian lost consciousness.
Alejandro stood frozen.
Because suddenly he understood.
The enemy wasn’t coming for him.
May you like
The enemy was already home.
To be continued...
