Chapter 12: Isabella’s Final Secret

The gunshot echoed through the abandoned church.
Dust fell from the ceiling.
The old wooden benches shook.
For a moment, Alejandro couldn’t move.
Not because of the bullet.
Not because of the danger.
Because the woman standing in front of him was impossible.
The woman he buried in his mind for eleven months.
The woman he blamed himself for losing.
The woman he searched for every single day.
Isabella.
Alive.
“Run!”
Her voice broke through his shock.
Alejandro finally reacted.
He grabbed Isabella’s arm and pulled her behind the stone wall as another bullet tore through the air.
Marco moved instantly.
Not toward Alejandro.
Not toward Isabella.
Toward the shooter.
That alone surprised Alejandro.
Because for fifteen years, Marco had been the enemy.
The betrayer.
The man who pulled the trigger.
But now...
He was protecting them.
“Who is shooting?” Alejandro demanded.
Marco looked toward the broken window.
“The people who created all of this.”
Alejandro stared.
“The Vipers?”
Marco shook his head.
“No.”
A pause.
“The people above them.”
Outside the church, black vehicles surrounded the building.
Not police.
Not ordinary criminals.
Professional.
Silent.
Organized.
The kind of people who didn’t come to threaten.
They came to erase.
Isabella looked through the broken wall.
Her face became pale.
“They found the location.”
Alejandro looked at her.
“You knew this would happen?”
“Yes.”
“And you still came?”
“I had to.”
“Why?”
Isabella looked at him.
“Because you finally remembered.”
Those words hurt.
Because they meant she had been waiting.
Waiting for him to become the man he used to be.
Not the man everyone created.
They escaped through an underground tunnel beneath the church.
Another hidden path.
Another secret.
Alejandro was beginning to realize his entire life was built on doors he never knew existed.
When they reached safety, nobody spoke.
Until Alejandro turned to Isabella.
“How long?”
She knew what he meant.
“How long have you been alive?”
Isabella looked away.
“Eleven months.”
The answer hit him.
Eleven months.
The entire time he was suffering.
The entire time he believed she was gone.
She was alive.
Watching.
Waiting.
“You let me believe you were dead.”
Her eyes showed pain.
“I had no choice.”
“You always had a choice.”
“No, Alejandro.”
Her voice became emotional.
“For the first time in my life, I didn’t.”
They reached an old safe house.
A place Isabella had prepared years ago.
Inside were documents.
Weapons.
Photos.
Everything needed to disappear.
Alejandro looked around.
“You planned this.”
“Yes.”
“With who?”
Isabella looked at Marco.
Alejandro noticed.
The answer hurt.
Marco.
The man he hated.
The man Isabella trusted.
“You worked together.”
Marco remained silent.
Isabella answered.
“Yes.”
Alejandro laughed bitterly.
“So both of you lied to me.”
“Yes.”
The honesty surprised him.
No excuses.
No explanations.
Just truth.
“Why?”
Isabella walked toward him.
“Because if you remembered everything too soon, you would have died.”
Alejandro looked at her.
“Then tell me everything.”
Isabella took a deep breath.
“Fifteen years ago, Lorenzo wasn’t just building an empire.”
She placed a file on the table.
“He was preparing a war.”
A war between powerful families.
Governments.
Organizations.
And at the center of it all...
Alejandro.
“Your father wanted you to inherit everything.”
Alejandro looked at Emma’s file.
“And Emma?”
Isabella nodded.
“Emma was supposed to be the backup plan.”
Emma looked shocked.
“Backup?”
Isabella looked at her sadly.
“You were the child Lorenzo trusted most.”
“Why?”
“Because you remembered everything.”
Silence.
Isabella continued:
“When Lorenzo realized Alejandro wanted to leave The Vipers, he decided to replace him.”
Alejandro clenched his fists.
“With Emma.”
“Yes.”
The night Isabella disappeared was not a murder.
It was a negotiation.
She had discovered Lorenzo’s plan.
She wanted to stop him.
But she needed proof.
So she went to meet Marco.
Not because she trusted him.
Because she knew he was the only person close enough to Lorenzo.
“What happened that night?” Alejandro asked.
Isabella looked at him.
“You came too.”
His expression changed.
“I did?”
“Yes.”
“You don’t remember because your memories were altered afterward.”
Alejandro waited.
Isabella continued.
“You confronted Lorenzo.”
A pause.
“You tried to stop him.”
Then she looked at Marco.
“And Marco made the choice.”
Alejandro looked at him.
“What choice?”
Marco finally spoke.
“The choice to betray everyone.”
Marco explained.
That night, he was ordered to kill Isabella.
Lorenzo wanted her gone.
She knew too much.
But Marco hesitated.
Because Isabella had shown him something nobody else had.
Trust.
Humanity.
A reason to question his orders.
So when he pulled the trigger...
He changed the angle.
The bullet missed Isabella’s heart.
Then he helped her escape.
But there was one problem.
Alejandro saw everything.
And Lorenzo knew.
If Alejandro remembered the truth, he would destroy The Vipers.
So they used Project Phoenix.
They erased his memories.
They created a false story.
They made Alejandro believe Isabella abandoned him.
Alejandro looked at Isabella.
“Why didn’t you come back?”
Her eyes filled with tears.
“Because Lorenzo threatened Emma.”
Emma froze.
“What?”
Isabella nodded.
“He said if you returned, he would kill her.”
Alejandro looked at Emma.
The realization hit.
Everything had been connected.
Emma.
Isabella.
Himself.
All controlled by Lorenzo.
Suddenly, every light in the safe house turned off.
Everyone froze.
Marco immediately reached for his weapon.
“No…”
Alejandro looked at him.
“What?”
Marco’s face changed.
“The tracking device.”
Isabella looked shocked.
“You’re sure?”
Marco nodded.
“He wasn’t tracking the house.”
A pause.
“He was tracking one of us.”
Everyone looked at each other.
Then Emma slowly stepped backward.
Her face became pale.
“No…”
Alejandro noticed.
“What happened?”
Emma touched her neck.
The Viper mark.
“It’s burning.”
Isabella’s expression changed completely.
“That’s impossible.”
“What?”
Isabella looked terrified.
“Because that mark isn’t a symbol.”
Alejandro stared.
“Then what is it?”
Isabella whispered:
“It’s a transmitter.”
Silence.
Emma looked at her.
“You mean…”
“Yes.”
Isabella’s voice shook.
“Someone has been able to find you your entire life.”
The room became colder.
Because the truth was worse than anyone imagined.
Emma was not just someone they were searching for.
She was a living signal.
A walking map.
And somewhere out there...
Someone had been following her since the day she was born.
Then a phone rang.
Unknown number.
Alejandro answered.
A voice spoke.
A voice that none of them expected.
“Hello, Alejandro.”
Everyone froze.
Because the voice belonged to Lorenzo.
But Lorenzo was not calling from outside.
He was calling from inside the safe house.
A slow smile appeared on the speaker.
“You finally found Isabella.”
A pause.
“But you still haven’t found the real traitor.”
The call ended.
And the door behind them slowly opened.
Someone was standing there.
Someone who had followed them.
May you like
Someone they trusted.
To be continued...
