Chapter 6 - The Hidden AccountSecurity swept the hospital.

Nothing.
No intruder.
No suspicious employee.
No camera footage.
The black SUV disappeared before anyone reached it.
Khloe insisted Elena be moved immediately.
We left through a private exit at 2:00 a.m.
For the first time in my life, I understood what fear really felt like.
It wasn't screaming.
It was silence.
It was holding your newborn daughter and wondering how many strangers had already memorized her face.
We went to Khloe's townhouse.
Bulletproof windows.
Private security.
Three separate entrances.
I barely slept.
At dawn, Khloe woke me.
“We found Ethan.”
I sat up.
“Where?”
“Zurich.”
“With money?”
“Yes.”
“How much?”
“Two hundred and eighty million.”
I stared at her.
“What?”
“He transferred it through seven shell companies.”
“Whose money?”
“Trust money.”
I got out of bed.
“Then Julian has to know.”
Khloe shook her head.
“He does.”
“How?”
“Because Ethan's account received payments from Julian's private company.”
That changed everything.
“Julian funded his own brother.”
“Looks that way.”
I stood over the documents.
There were millions flowing between Julian, Ethan, Mia's family, and several shell companies.
One company name stood out.
Vantage Meridian Holdings.
I knew that company.
It wasn't part of the Vance empire.
It had been created four months before my wedding.
I remembered something.
My father had warned me about shell companies.
Vantage Meridian was one of the names he had circled in an old notebook.
I called Khloe.
“Pull every transaction involving Vantage Meridian.”
She did.
Then she stopped.
“Clare.”
“What?”
“The company owns the Greenwich estate.”
I froze.
“Julian's grandfather's house?”
“Yes.”
“And Lucas lives there?”
Khloe shook her head.
“Not officially.”
I knew exactly what that meant.
The secret child hadn't been hidden because Julian was ashamed.
He had been hidden because the house was part of the financial structure.
That afternoon, we went to Greenwich.
The mansion looked abandoned.
But the moment we approached, security cameras moved.
Someone was watching.
Khloe's team breached the gate records.
The property had received deliveries every week.
Baby supplies.
Food.
Medical equipment.
But there was something else.
Forty-two encrypted servers were installed beneath the basement.
“Servers?” I asked.
Khloe nodded.
“This isn't a house.”
We entered through a side passage.
The basement was colder than the rest of the building.
A steel door stood at the end.
No handle.
No keypad.
Just a fingerprint scanner.
Khloe looked at me.
“Want to guess?”
I placed my finger on it.
The door opened.
My stomach dropped.
Inside were shelves.
Boxes.
Documents.
Files labeled with names from the trust.
Every major Vance executive.
Every board member.
Every family member.
Even me.
I picked up my file.
There were photographs.
My office.
My car.
My apartment.
The hospital.
My daughter.
I felt nauseous.
Khloe opened another box.
“Clare…”
“What?”
She held up a file.
It was labeled:
PROJECT HEIR.
Inside was a timeline.
My marriage.
My pregnancy.
Julian's affair with Mia.
Lucas's birth.
My daughter's expected delivery date.
Everything.
Planned.
Tracked.
Manipulated.
Then Khloe found a final page.
A handwritten instruction.
Once Elena is born, initiate Stage Three.
I looked at the date.
It was written eight months earlier.
My hands trembled.
“Stage Three?”
Khloe turned the page.
The next line was worse.
Remove Clare as trustee within seventy-two hours.
We looked at each other.
I checked my phone.
The baby was asleep upstairs with security.
Twenty-seven hours had already passed.
That gave us forty-five.
Then a noise came from behind us.
We turned.
A door slammed.
Someone had entered the basement.
Footsteps approached.
Slow.
Calm.
Familiar.
Julian appeared in the doorway.
He looked at the files.
Then at me.
“You were never supposed to find this room.”
I stared at him.
“Then tell me the truth.”
He smiled.
“You really don't want it.”
“Yes.”
His smile disappeared.
“Then I'll give it to you.”
He pointed to a file marked with my name.
“Your father didn't choose you to protect the Vance family.”
I stared.
“He chose you because he knew what happened to the last trustee.”
I felt the blood leave my face.
May you like
Julian said quietly:
“He was murdered.”
