“He Came Home Early and Found His Maid Hiding in His Closet With a Gun… Then She Revealed Who Really Killed His Brother”

The Woman in My Closet

Coming home early should have been harmless.

Instead, it nearly got me killed.

I entered my Manhattan estate just after ten.

Something was wrong.

No guard.

No footsteps.

The alarm panel was dead.

Then I heard movement upstairs.

I climbed silently and pushed open my bedroom door.

A hand covered my mouth.

Someone dragged me into the walk-in closet.

I almost broke her wrist before recognizing her.

Elena Cruz.

My maid.

“Don’t make a sound,” she whispered.

The bedroom lights came on.

Three armed men entered.

One moved my grandfather’s painting, revealing the private safe behind it.

My blood ran cold.

Almost nobody knew about that safe.

“How do you know they’re here?” I whispered.

“Later.”

“Elena.”

“Later, Vincent.”

I froze.

Nobody in my house called me Vincent.

Before I could question her, footsteps approached the closet.

Elena pushed me behind the suits.

Then I noticed the pistol hidden beneath her clothes.

“You’re armed?”

“Would you rather I wasn't?”

The men stopped outside.

Then I heard a familiar voice.

“Check every room.”

Marcus.

My nephew.

The boy I had raised after his father died.

The boy I had educated, protected, and trusted with my organization.

Now he was hunting me inside my own home.

“Tony confirmed Vincent left the warehouse an hour ago,” Marcus said. “He should be here.”

Tony.

My security chief.

Another betrayal.

A man asked, “What if he refuses to talk?”

Marcus answered calmly.

“Everyone talks when you find the right pressure point.”

Then he added:

“And if Moretti refuses, we use the girl.”

My eyes moved to Elena.

“The maid?”

“She knows more than she should.”

Elena went rigid.

I whispered, “What does Marcus want?”

Her eyes met mine.

“This isn't about your money.”

“Then what?”

“He came looking for proof.”

“Proof of what?”

She hesitated.

Then whispered the words that shattered everything I believed.

“Your brother didn't die in an accident.”

I stared at her.

“What?”

“He was murdered.”

“By whom?”

Elena swallowed.

“Ask Marcus.”

Outside the closet, footsteps slowly approached.

Marcus stopped inches from the door.

Then he smiled.

“Vincent?”

My hand tightened around my weapon.

“I know you're listening.”

Elena grabbed my wrist.

“Whatever happens next,” she whispered, “don't let him open this door.”

The handle began to turn.
