CHAPTER 9: THE ARCHITECT OF THE LIES

The underground facility was silent.

Too silent.

Amelia Whitmore stood frozen in front of the screen, watching her father’s recorded message.

Alexander Whitmore.

A man the world believed was dead.

A man whose secrets had haunted her entire life.

A man who had apparently known everything.

The screen flickered.

His face appeared again.

Older.

Tired.

But still carrying the same confidence Amelia remembered from childhood.

Then he spoke.

“Amelia, if you are watching this, it means my greatest fear has become reality.”

Nobody moved.

Not Victor.

Not Daniel.

Not Sarah.

Not even Amelia.

Because everyone knew.

Whatever came next would change everything.

“I spent my entire life building Whitmore Dynamics.”

Alexander continued.

“People believed I built an empire because I wanted power.”

He paused.

“They were wrong.”

Amelia stared at the screen.

Her father had always been difficult to understand.

He loved her.

But he was also distant.

He was always working.

Always traveling.

Always protecting something she couldn’t see.

Now she finally understood.

He wasn’t protecting a company.

He was protecting a secret.

“My greatest mistake was believing money could protect my family.”

Alexander looked directly into the camera.

“Money attracts people.”

“Power attracts enemies.”

“But trust…”

His expression darkened.

“Trust attracts betrayal.”

Richard Hale watched the same video from a small room inside the detention center.

He had obtained a copy through an anonymous source.

At first, he thought it was another trick.

Another attempt to confuse him.

But then he saw Alexander’s face.

And he remembered.

The first time he met Amelia’s father.

The handshake.

The smile.

The conversation.

The feeling that Alexander already knew everything about him.

Richard suddenly realized something.

Alexander Whitmore had never seen him as a future son-in-law.

He had seen him as an experiment.

A test.

A piece on a board.

Richard clenched his fists.

“You used me.”

For the first time, Richard wasn’t angry at Amelia.

He was angry at the man who had been controlling everything.

The video continued.

“There is one person responsible for everything that happened.”

Alexander said.

“The person who manipulated Richard.”

“The person who attacked my family.”

“The person who tried to take control of Whitmore Dynamics.”

Amelia leaned closer.

The room felt smaller.

“His name is…”

The screen suddenly distorted.

Static filled the room.

Everyone froze.

Victor rushed toward the computer.

“What happened?”

The screen went black.

“No.”

Victor began typing rapidly.

Someone had interrupted the transmission.

Someone had remotely accessed the system.

Sarah looked at Amelia.

“They knew we found this.”

Amelia’s expression hardened.

“Who?”

Nobody answered.

Because everyone already knew the answer.

The person behind everything was watching.

Suddenly, every monitor in the facility turned on.

But the screens no longer showed Alexander.

They showed a live video feed.

A man sitting in a dark room.

Clapping slowly.

Charles Whitmore.

Amelia’s uncle smiled.

“Congratulations.”

Nobody spoke.

“You finally found the truth.”

Amelia stepped toward the screen.

“Where is my father?”

Charles smiled.

“Still asking about him?”

His expression became colder.

“That’s always been your problem, Amelia.”

“What?”

“You care too much.”

The words disgusted her.

Charles leaned closer to the camera.

“You think your father was a hero?”

A pause.

“You have no idea what he really did.”

Daniel stepped forward.

“Charles.”

For the first time, Charles looked surprised.

“Daniel.”

A cold smile appeared.

“So you finally came home.”

Amelia looked between them.

“You know each other.”

Charles laughed.

“Of course.”

Daniel’s face tightened.

“He was there.”

Amelia looked at him.

“Where?”

Daniel looked at Charles.

“The night my mother disappeared.”

Silence.

Amelia felt the air leave the room.

“What?”

Daniel continued.

“Charles was the person who told my father he needed to choose.”

“His empire…”

“Or me.”

Charles smiled.

“You were never supposed to exist.”

Daniel’s expression changed.

“And neither was Amelia.”

The room became completely silent.

Amelia stared at the screen.

“What did you say?”

Charles smiled.

“You heard me.”

“Explain.”

Charles leaned back.

“Your father’s empire was supposed to belong to one perfect heir.”

Amelia felt her heartbeat increase.

“Me?”

“No.”

The answer came instantly.

“Neither of you.”

A pause.

“The company was always supposed to belong to me.”

Charles revealed the truth.

For decades, he had believed the Whitmore empire should have been his.

Alexander was younger.

Smarter.

More successful.

Every achievement Alexander made felt like a humiliation.

Every headline.

Every award.

Every billion-dollar deal.

Charles watched his brother become everything he wanted to be.

And jealousy became hatred.

“I spent years watching him win.”

Charles said.

“So I decided I would take everything from him.”

Amelia looked at him with disgust.

“You destroyed your own family.”

Charles smiled.

“No.”

“I saved it.”

Richard suddenly received a message.

A video.

From Charles.

He opened it.

Charles appeared on the screen.

“Richard.”

Richard froze.

“You thought you were my partner.”

Charles smiled.

“But you were always my insurance policy.”

Richard’s face changed.

All the pieces finally connected.

Charles had introduced him to Amelia.

Charles had encouraged his obsession.

Charles had pushed him toward the inheritance.

Charles had created the conditions for the murder.

Richard wasn’t the mastermind.

He was the distraction.

A disposable villain.

Back at the facility, Amelia looked at Victor.

“You knew.”

Victor lowered his eyes.

“Yes.”

Her voice became colder.

“You knew Richard was being manipulated.”

“Yes.”

“You knew Charles was behind this.”

“Yes.”

Anger flashed in Amelia’s eyes.

“Then why didn’t you stop him?”

Victor looked at her.

“Because your father asked me not to.”

Amelia froze.

“My father?”

Victor nodded.

“He wanted Charles to reveal himself.”

Sarah stepped forward.

“You let everything happen?”

Victor’s voice became heavy.

“No.”

“I prepared for it.”

He looked at Amelia.

“Your father knew Charles would eventually make a move.”

“He created a final plan.”

Amelia whispered:

“What plan?”

Victor walked toward a locked door.

He entered a code.

The door opened.

Inside was another room.

A room filled with files.

Thousands of them.

At the center was a single folder.

With Amelia’s name.

Victor handed it to her.

“This is your father’s final message.”

Amelia opened it.

Inside was a letter.

The handwriting was Alexander’s.

Only three sentences.

"Amelia."

"If Charles has revealed himself, then you are no longer fighting for survival."

"You are fighting for the Whitmore empire."

She turned the page.

And saw the final line.

A line that made her blood freeze.

"But be careful."

"Charles is not the only traitor in our family."

Amelia looked up.

“What?”

Victor’s face changed.

Because he knew what came next.

The letter continued.

"The person who betrayed me is someone Amelia trusts completely."

Everyone became silent.

Amelia looked around the room.

At Daniel.

At Sarah.

At Victor.

At everyone she thought she could trust.

Then her phone vibrated.

A new message appeared.

From an unknown number.

One sentence.

"Ask Sarah what happened the night your father died."

Amelia slowly looked at Sarah.

And Sarah’s face...

May you like

Had already lost its color.
