CHAPTER 10: THE SECRET SARAH HID

The room felt colder than before.
Amelia Whitmore stared at Sarah.
The woman who had stood beside her through everything.
The woman who helped her investigate Richard.
The woman who helped her survive.
The woman who had always been there.
Until now.
Because the message on Amelia’s phone had created a question that refused to disappear.
"Ask Sarah what happened the night your father died."
Amelia slowly lowered the phone.
Nobody spoke.
Even Victor looked uncomfortable.
Daniel watched Sarah carefully.
Because he noticed something Amelia had not.
Fear.
Real fear.
Not guilt.
Not anger.
Fear.
“Sarah.”
Amelia’s voice was quiet.
Almost too quiet.
“What happened the night my father died?”
Sarah didn’t answer.
The silence became unbearable.
“Sarah.”
This time, Amelia’s voice carried something sharper.
The authority of a CEO.
The anger of a daughter.
The pain of someone who had trusted too much.
Sarah closed her eyes.
For years, she had protected secrets.
Alexander’s secrets.
The Whitmore family’s secrets.
But now those secrets were destroying the person she was trying to protect.
“I didn’t kill your father.”
Sarah finally said.
Amelia looked at her.
“I didn’t ask that.”
A pause.
“I asked what happened.”
Sarah slowly sat down.
Her hands trembled slightly.
“The night Alexander died…”
She stopped.
Because saying it out loud after all these years made it real again.
“He wasn’t supposed to die.”
Amelia froze.
“What?”
Sarah looked up.
“Your father’s death was not an accident.”
Everyone became silent.
Richard, watching from the detention center, felt his stomach tighten when he received the same information through the leaked video system.
Not an accident.
The words echoed.
Because the entire foundation of the Whitmore family had been built on a lie.
Sarah continued.
“Your father discovered something.”
“What?”
“A financial network.”
Amelia frowned.
“What kind of network?”
“A hidden group of investors and executives controlling companies from behind the scenes.”
Victor nodded slowly.
“The Shadow Board.”
Everyone looked at him.
Sarah looked surprised.
“You know about them?”
Victor’s expression darkened.
“I worked for them.”
The room froze.
Amelia turned toward him.
“You worked for them?”
Victor looked ashamed for the first time.
“Yes.”
The Shadow Board.
A name almost nobody knew.
They weren’t a company.
They weren’t a government.
They were something worse.
A collection of billionaires, executives, and powerful people who controlled industries without appearing anywhere.
They didn’t own companies.
They owned the people who owned companies.
And Alexander Whitmore had discovered them.
“He planned to expose them,” Sarah said.
“But someone betrayed him.”
Amelia looked at the letter again.
The traitor inside the family.
“Who?”
Sarah looked away.
And that answer terrified Amelia more than anything.
Because Sarah wasn’t afraid of Charles.
She wasn’t afraid of Victor.
She was afraid of saying the name.
Meanwhile, Richard was losing his mind.
The man who once believed he could control everything was now discovering layers of secrets he never imagined.
His entire plan.
His entire obsession.
His entire hatred toward Amelia.
Maybe none of it started with him.
He looked at the prison wall.
For years, he blamed Amelia for making him feel small.
But now he wondered.
Who had planted that feeling?
Who had convinced him he deserved her empire?
Then his cell phone rang.
A restricted number.
Richard answered.
“Who is this?”
A familiar voice replied.
“You’re finally understanding.”
Richard froze.
Charles.
“You used me.”
Charles laughed.
“Used?”
“You manipulated me.”
“No, Richard.”
Charles sounded almost amused.
“I gave you an opportunity.”
“You destroyed my life.”
A pause.
“No.”
Charles corrected him.
“You destroyed your own life.”
Richard gripped the phone.
“You made me believe Amelia was the enemy.”
“I made you believe what you already wanted to believe.”
The words hit harder than Richard expected.
Because deep down...
He knew it was true.
Back at Whitmore Tower, Amelia demanded answers.
“No more secrets.”
She looked at everyone.
“Not from my family.”
“Not from my allies.”
“Not from anyone.”
Victor looked at Sarah.
Sarah nodded.
Then she finally spoke.
“The night your father died…”
She swallowed.
“He met with someone.”
“Who?”
Sarah looked at Amelia.
“Your mother.”
Amelia froze.
“My mother died when I was a child.”
“Yes.”
“Then how?”
Sarah reached into her bag.
She pulled out a photograph.
An old photograph.
A woman standing beside Alexander.
Amelia stared.
Because she recognized her immediately.
Her mother.
But that wasn’t possible.
“My mother was alive?”
Sarah nodded.
“For three years after you were told she died.”
The world seemed to stop.
Amelia couldn’t breathe.
“What are you saying?”
Sarah’s voice broke.
“Your parents’ marriage was not what you thought.”
Daniel looked confused.
“What does that have to do with Charles?”
Sarah looked at him.
“Everything.”
She placed another document on the table.
A birth record.
Daniel’s.
Then another.
Amelia’s.
Then a third.
A document nobody expected.
A marriage certificate.
Between Alexander Whitmore...
And another woman.
Not Amelia’s mother.
Someone else.
A woman whose name Amelia had never heard.
Sarah whispered:
“Your father had another family.”
Amelia stepped back.
“No.”
She shook her head.
“No, that’s impossible.”
Sarah looked devastated.
“I wish it was.”
“Why would he hide this?”
Nobody answered.
Because the answer was obvious.
Power.
Legacy.
The Whitmore name.
Everything was built on secrets.
Suddenly, every screen inside the facility turned black.
Then one message appeared.
A live broadcast.
Charles.
Again.
But this time...
He wasn’t alone.
Standing beside him was Alexander Whitmore.
Alive.
But injured.
Amelia rushed toward the screen.
“Dad!”
Alexander looked at the camera.
His eyes were filled with regret.
Then Charles spoke.
“Enough secrets.”
He smiled.
“Tonight, the world learns the truth.”
The camera moved closer.
Charles placed a gun on the table.
Not aimed at Alexander.
Aimed at the camera.
Aimed at everyone watching.
“I will reveal why Alexander Whitmore really disappeared.”
A pause.
“And why Amelia Whitmore was never supposed to inherit anything.”
Amelia stared.
“What are you doing?”
Charles smiled.
“Ending the Whitmore family.”
Then Alexander spoke.
His voice was weak.
But clear.
“Amelia…”
She moved closer to the screen.
“Dad?”
His eyes filled with sadness.
“I’m sorry.”
“Sorry for what?”
Alexander looked directly at her.
“For choosing the wrong person to trust.”
A long silence.
Then he said:
“The person who betrayed me…”
“The person who gave Charles access to everything…”
“Was not Richard.”
“Was not Victor.”
“Was not Sarah.”
Amelia held her breath.
Alexander whispered:
“It was your mother.”
The screen went black.
No sound.
No movement.
Only darkness.
Amelia stood frozen.
Because the woman she spent her entire life mourning...
May you like
Might have been the person who destroyed her family.
