CHAPTER 8: THE LOST SON OF WHITMORE

Amelia Whitmore had faced death.
She had survived a fall from the sky.
She had discovered her husband’s betrayal.
She had uncovered a conspiracy hidden beneath years of lies.
But nothing prepared her for the man standing in front of her.
A stranger.
A man with her father’s eyes.
A man carrying the same calm confidence that Alexander Whitmore always had.
A man who claimed to be her brother.
For several seconds, Amelia couldn’t speak.
Her mind rejected the possibility.
Her heart rejected it even faster.
“I don’t have a brother.”
The man looked at her.
“I know.”
His voice was calm.
“That’s why I’m here.”
The security team immediately surrounded him.
“Ma’am, step back.”
Amelia raised her hand.
“No.”
Everyone looked surprised.
She kept her eyes on the stranger.
“Who are you?”
The man slowly reached into his jacket.
The guards immediately reacted.
But he only pulled out an old photograph.
He placed it on the table.
Amelia looked down.
And everything stopped.
It was a picture of Alexander Whitmore.
A younger Alexander.
Standing beside a woman Amelia had never seen before.
And in the woman’s arms...
Was a baby.
The man pointed.
“That baby is me.”
Amelia picked up the photograph.
Her fingers trembled.
“Where did you get this?”
“My mother kept it.”
“Who was your mother?”
The man looked away.
“Her name was Elena.”
The name meant nothing to Amelia.
But it clearly meant something to her father.
The man introduced himself.
“Daniel Whitmore.”
The name sounded strange.
Because Amelia had spent her entire life studying the Whitmore family history.
Every relative.
Every branch.
Every inheritance document.
There was no Daniel.
“No records exist of you.”
Daniel nodded.
“Exactly.”
“Why?”
“Because your father erased them.”
Amelia’s expression hardened.
“My father wouldn’t do that.”
Daniel looked at her sadly.
“You loved him.”
A pause.
“That’s why you don’t know him.”
Those words hit harder than Amelia expected.
Because they sounded familiar.
Richard had said something similar.
Everyone had been telling her the same thing.
You don’t know the people you love.
Daniel sat across from Amelia.
“I didn’t come here to take your company.”
Amelia said nothing.
“I know what you’re thinking.”
“What am I thinking?”
“That I’m another person trying to steal what belongs to you.”
Amelia stared at him.
“Can you blame me?”
“No.”
Daniel nodded.
“After everything you’ve been through, I wouldn’t trust anyone either.”
For the first time...
Amelia saw something different.
Not greed.
Not ambition.
Pain.
A pain she recognized.
The pain of being betrayed by family.
Daniel told his story.
Twenty-eight years earlier, Alexander Whitmore met Elena.
Before he became one of the most powerful businessmen in the world.
Before the empire.
Before the fame.
They fell in love.
But Alexander’s family had other plans.
The Whitmore family needed an heir from a powerful marriage.
Not a child born outside their expectations.
When Elena became pregnant, Alexander was forced to choose.
His family.
Or his son.
And he chose the empire.
“He promised he would come back,” Daniel said.
“But he never did.”
Amelia looked down.
“Why didn’t he tell me?”
Daniel laughed quietly.
“Because you were the child he chose.”
The sentence hurt.
Because it was true.
Meanwhile, Charles Whitmore watched the news from his private office.
A glass of expensive whiskey sat untouched on his desk.
His plan had been perfect.
Richard was supposed to destroy Amelia.
Then Richard would disappear.
The company would fall into chaos.
And Charles would step in as the only person capable of saving the Whitmore empire.
But then Amelia survived.
Then Alexander returned.
And now...
Daniel.
Charles looked at the security footage from Amelia’s mansion.
He watched Daniel enter.
His expression changed.
“So you finally came back.”
His assistant looked confused.
“You know him?”
Charles smiled.
“Of course.”
A pause.
“He is the reason everything started.”
Back at the mansion, Amelia confronted Daniel.
“Why now?”
Daniel looked at her.
“What?”
“Why appear now? After all these years?”
Daniel was silent.
Then he answered:
“Because your father is missing.”
Amelia froze.
“What does that have to do with you?”
Daniel reached into his pocket.
He pulled out another document.
A legal document.
Signed by Alexander Whitmore.
Amelia read it.
Her eyes widened.
“What is this?”
“Your father’s final agreement.”
She continued reading.
And then she saw the shocking truth.
Alexander had created a secret trust.
A trust that could only be activated under one condition.
If both of his children were alive.
Both.
Not Amelia alone.
Daniel continued:
“Your father knew someone would try to take the company.”
“Who?”
Daniel looked directly at her.
“Charles.”
Silence.
“He knew your uncle wanted control.”
Amelia shook her head.
“My father trusted Charles.”
Daniel smiled sadly.
“No.”
“He used Charles.”
Amelia stood up.
“What does that mean?”
Daniel looked toward the window.
“Your father knew Charles was dangerous.”
“Then why keep him close?”
“Because Charles wasn’t the only person hiding secrets.”
Amelia felt a chill.
“What are you saying?”
Daniel turned around.
“Your father knew about Richard.”
The room went silent.
“He knew Richard was coming into your life.”
Amelia’s face changed.
“No.”
“Yes.”
Daniel continued.
“He didn’t know exactly what Richard would do.”
“But he knew someone was manipulating him.”
Amelia remembered the letter.
Her father's warning.
The strange documents.
The hidden project.
Everything connected.
Suddenly, Amelia’s phone rang.
Sarah.
She answered immediately.
“Sarah?”
Her voice sounded urgent.
“Amelia, you need to get back here.”
“What happened?”
A pause.
Then Sarah said:
“We found Victor.”
Amelia froze.
“Where?”
“In the old Whitmore underground facility.”
The name sounded familiar.
The place her father supposedly abandoned years ago.
The place no one was allowed to enter.
“What was he doing there?”
Sarah hesitated.
“Amelia…”
“What?”
“He wasn’t hiding.”
Silence.
“He was waiting.”
Amelia and Daniel arrived at the abandoned facility an hour later.
The underground building was hidden beneath an old Whitmore property.
A place removed from all company records.
Inside were thousands of files.
Computers.
Photographs.
Surveillance footage.
A secret operation.
At the center of the room stood Victor Blackwood.
Alive.
Calm.
Waiting.
Richard was wrong.
Amelia was wrong.
Everyone thought Victor was working for someone.
But now...
They discovered the truth.
Victor wasn’t serving Charles.
He wasn’t serving Richard.
He wasn’t serving anyone.
He was serving Alexander Whitmore.
Victor looked at Amelia.
“You finally found the truth.”
Amelia stepped forward.
“What truth?”
Victor looked at Daniel.
Then back at her.
“The truth about your father’s plan.”
Amelia’s eyes narrowed.
“My father’s plan?”
Victor nodded.
“Everything that happened.”
“The helicopter.”
“Richard.”
“Charles.”
“Even your brother returning.”
A pause.
“Your father predicted all of it.”
Amelia felt her stomach tighten.
“That’s impossible.”
Victor smiled.
“No.”
He pressed a button.
A screen turned on.
A video appeared.
Alexander Whitmore.
Older.
Tired.
But alive.
Looking directly into the camera.
His message began:
“Amelia, if you are watching this…”
The screen flickered.
Then Alexander said the words that changed everything.
“Richard Hale was never the person I feared most.”
A pause.
“I feared the person who created him.”
Amelia stared.
Because everyone thought Richard was the monster.
But now...
Her father was revealing something much darker.
Someone had built the monster.
And that person...
May you like
Was still out there.
