CHAPTER 15: THE FINAL INHERITANCE

The room froze.

No one moved.

No one spoke.

Because there were now two impossible truths standing in front of Amelia Whitmore.

Her grandfather.

Edward Whitmore.

A man who had manipulated her entire life from the shadows.

And her father.

Alexander Whitmore.

A man the world believed was dead.

A man who had returned again and again like a ghost refusing to disappear.

But this time...

There was something different.

Alexander wasn’t weak.

He wasn’t trapped.

He wasn’t afraid.

He was angry.

Amelia slowly turned around.

“Dad…”

The word escaped before she could stop it.

A thousand emotions collided inside her.

Relief.

Anger.

Pain.

Betrayal.

She wanted to run toward him.

She wanted to hit him.

She wanted answers.

Instead, she stood still.

Because she had learned the hardest lesson of her life.

The people you love can hurt you the most.

“Tell me the truth.”

Alexander looked at her.

“I will.”

“No more secrets.”

He nodded.

“No more.”

Edward’s voice suddenly came through the speakers.

A calm laugh.

“How emotional.”

Everyone looked at the screens.

Edward appeared again.

“You always were weak, Alexander.”

Alexander looked up.

“No.”

His voice was cold.

“I was human.”

Edward smiled.

“That was your failure.”

Amelia looked between them.

“Enough.”

Both men stopped.

For the first time in her life, Amelia saw something strange.

Two powerful men.

Two billionaires.

Two people who controlled millions of lives.

And both of them were waiting for her reaction.

Not the other way around.

“Grandfather.”

Edward looked at her.

“You created this entire nightmare.”

“Yes.”

The honesty shocked her.

“You admit it?”

“Why would I lie now?”

His expression remained emotionless.

“History belongs to those who win.”

Amelia stepped closer.

“You destroyed your own family.”

Edward shook his head.

“No.”

“I removed weakness.”

He looked at Alexander.

“Your father became sentimental.”

He looked at Daniel.

“You became emotional.”

He looked at Amelia.

“But you…”

A pause.

“You became exactly what I wanted.”

Amelia felt a chill.

“What does that mean?”

Edward smiled.

“It means Project Phoenix succeeded.”

Daniel immediately stepped forward.

“Don’t listen to him.”

Edward ignored him.

“Your father believed he could protect you by hiding the truth.”

“He was wrong.”

“Your mother believed she could escape.”

“She was wrong.”

“Charles believed he could replace me.”

“He was wrong.”

A pause.

“But you…”

Edward looked directly at Amelia.

“You learned.”

Alexander stepped beside Amelia.

“Don’t listen to him.”

She looked at her father.

“You knew?”

His silence answered.

Her heart sank.

“You knew about Project Phoenix?”

“Yes.”

“And you let it happen?”

Alexander lowered his head.

“I tried to stop it.”

“But you failed.”

“Yes.”

The honesty hurt more than an excuse.

Alexander finally told the truth.

When Amelia was born, Edward created Project Phoenix.

The goal was simple.

Create an heir who could survive any attack.

Someone intelligent enough to lead.

Strong enough to resist manipulation.

Independent enough to challenge anyone.

Including him.

“I refused.”

Alexander said.

“I told him Amelia was my daughter, not an experiment.”

Amelia’s eyes filled.

“Then why didn’t you stop him?”

Alexander looked devastated.

“Because Edward had power I couldn’t fight.”

“The Shadow Board.”

“Yes.”

“The companies.”

“Yes.”

“The people who protected him.”

“Yes.”

A pause.

“And because I was afraid.”

The admission surprised everyone.

Alexander Whitmore.

A man known as fearless.

Admitted fear.

“I was afraid of losing you.”

He looked at Amelia.

“So I made the worst decision.”

“I stayed silent.”

Suddenly, the doors of the facility opened.

Everyone turned.

Charles walked in.

But he looked different.

No confidence.

No arrogance.

Only exhaustion.

Amelia immediately reacted.

“You.”

Charles stopped.

“I know what you’re thinking.”

“You kidnapped my father.”

“Yes.”

“You worked with my grandfather.”

“Yes.”

“You destroyed my family.”

Charles looked down.

“Yes.”

Nobody expected his answer.

Not even Amelia.

Then Charles said:

“But I wasn’t trying to win.”

A pause.

“I was trying to survive.”

Everyone stared.

Charles continued.

“Edward never wanted an heir.”

“He wanted a replacement.”

“He created all of us.”

“Alexander.”

“Me.”

“Richard.”

“Even Amelia.”

Amelia’s face hardened.

“Don’t include me with you.”

Charles looked at her sadly.

“You still don’t understand.”

“What?”

“You were never the target.”

A pause.

“You were the final product.”

Edward smiled.

“Now you understand.”

Charles looked at the screen.

“No.”

His voice became angry.

“You still don’t.”

For the first time, Charles looked afraid of Edward.

“You created monsters.”

Edward calmly replied:

“Monsters are useful.”

Then every screen in the facility changed.

A countdown appeared.

PROJECT PHOENIX ACTIVATION

10:00

Everyone froze.

Victor looked at the system.

“No.”

Amelia turned.

“What?”

Victor’s face was pale.

“He’s activating it.”

“What is Project Phoenix?”

Victor looked at her.

“The system your grandfather spent decades building.”

Daniel stepped closer.

“What does it do?”

Victor swallowed.

“It connects every piece of Whitmore technology.”

“The AI systems.”

“The security networks.”

“The financial systems.”

“Everything.”

Amelia understood.

“Control.”

Victor nodded.

“If activated…”

He hesitated.

“If activated, whoever controls Phoenix controls a global network.”

Edward’s voice filled the room.

“Humanity has always been controlled by those who understand the future.”

He smiled.

“I simply accepted that reality.”

Amelia looked at him.

“You’re insane.”

“No.”

Edward replied.

“I am prepared.”

The countdown continued.

07:45

Amelia looked at the system.

Then at her father.

Then at Daniel.

Then at Charles.

All enemies.

All victims.

All pieces of the same game.

But one thing was different.

They were no longer separate.

For the first time...

They were fighting the same enemy.

Amelia walked toward the control panel.

Edward watched.

“What are you doing?”

She looked at the screen.

“Ending your game.”

Edward smiled.

“You cannot.”

“Why?”

“Because only I know the access code.”

Amelia looked at him.

A small smile appeared.

“No.”

Edward frowned.

“What?”

“My father knew.”

Alexander looked surprised.

Amelia turned to him.

“You taught me something.”

“What?”

She looked at Edward.

“Never trust anyone who says they have all the power.”

Amelia entered a sequence.

The system rejected it.

ACCESS DENIED

Edward smiled.

“You failed.”

Amelia didn’t stop.

Because she remembered something.

A childhood memory.

Her father.

A locked room.

A phrase he always told her.

A phrase she thought was meaningless.

But now...

She understood.

She entered the final command.

The screen changed.

MASTER ACCESS ACCEPTED

Everyone froze.

Edward’s expression changed for the first time.

Fear.

“How?”

Amelia looked at him.

“Because you forgot one thing.”

A pause.

“You created Project Phoenix.”

She smiled coldly.

“But my father created me.”

The countdown stopped.

00:00

Silence.

Then every screen went black.

Edward stared.

Impossible.

The man who controlled everything...

Had lost.

Not to Alexander.

Not to Charles.

Not to the Shadow Board.

To Amelia.

But then...

One final screen appeared.

A message.

Not from Edward.

Not from Alexander.

Not from Charles.

From an unknown source.

Three words.

"PHOENIX FAILED."

Everyone froze.

Victor whispered:

“That’s impossible.”

Amelia looked at him.

“Why?”

Victor stared at the message.

“Because…”

His voice shook.

“Phoenix wasn’t the final system.”

A pause.

“It was only the first.”

The lights went out.

A voice echoed through the darkness.

A voice Amelia had never heard.

But everyone else recognized.

Edward.

Alexander.

Victor.

Charles.

They all looked terrified.

The voice said:

“Congratulations, Amelia.”

“You survived the test.”

A pause.

“But now comes the real one.”

The lights returned.

And on the main screen appeared a symbol.

A symbol older than Whitmore.

Older than the Shadow Board.

Older than Project Phoenix.

Edward whispered:

“No…”

Because he finally understood.

He was not the architect.

He was only another piece.

The true player had been watching them all.

The entire time.

And the final enemy...

May you like

Was just beginning to reveal itself.
