Chapter 7 - The Man Beneath the HouseAdrian didn't know what frightened him more.

The photograph.
Or the fact that Grace didn't look surprised.
She looked guilty.
“Grace,” he said quietly.
She couldn't meet his eyes.
“Your mother is alive?”
Grace nodded.
“She disappeared six years ago.”
“You thought she was dead?”
“I didn't know.”
Adrian looked at Malcolm.
“What do you want?”
“Your signature.”
“For what?”
“Transfer documents.”
Adrian laughed bitterly.
“You could have killed me.”
“We need you alive.”
“Why?”
“Because the system recognizes your biometric authorization.”
Adrian understood.
This wasn't about his money.
It was about something hidden inside Whitmore Global.
A secret asset.
A hidden account.
Something worth killing for.
Malcolm ordered Victor to take Grace.
Adrian stepped forward.
Victor raised the gun.
Grace whispered:
“Don't.”
Adrian stopped.
Malcolm left.
Minutes later, Victor dragged Grace away.
Adrian was locked inside the old study.
But Malcolm had made one mistake.
He underestimated how well Adrian knew his own mansion.
A hidden panel opened beneath the bookshelf.
Adrian crawled into the passage.
At the end of the tunnel, he found Grace.
Victor had left her tied inside a wine storage room.
Adrian cut the rope.
“You okay?”
Grace nodded.
“There is something you need to know.”
“What?”
“I know where your father is.”
Adrian froze.
“How?”
“My mother worked for him.”
“What?”
“Before she disappeared, she told me.”
Grace pulled a tiny key from inside her shoe.
“He kept something beneath this house.”
“What?”
“A room.”
They followed the hidden corridor.
Behind an old stone wall, Adrian found a steel door.
The key unlocked it.
Inside was a room filled with files.
Photos.
Recordings.
Bank records.
Dozens of documents.
And hundreds of photographs of Adrian.
As a child.
As a teenager.
As a young executive.
Adrian walked deeper.
Then he saw something that stopped him.
A photograph of Grace.
Taken when she was fifteen.
Beside it was a handwritten note.
SUBJECT C: TRUSTWORTHINESS UNKNOWN.
Grace stared at the paper.
“They were watching me.”
Adrian's face darkened.
“Why?”
Then a monitor flickered on.
An old recording began.
Nathan Whitmore appeared on screen.
Older.
Thinner.
Alive.
He stared directly into the camera.
“Adrian, if you're watching this, it means Malcolm failed.”
Adrian stepped closer.
His father's voice continued.
“I know you believe I died.”
Grace whispered:
“Mr. Whitmore…”
Nathan continued.
“Your empire was never built the way you think.”
Adrian's jaw tightened.
“There is a company behind Whitmore Global.”
A company Adrian had never heard of.
Nathan leaned closer.
“It was designed to control politicians, financial markets, and private intelligence networks.”
Adrian stared.
“The company is called Black Meridian.”
The screen went black.
Then another video appeared.
Nathan's face returned.
“Your mother founded it.”
Adrian stopped breathing.
Then the door behind them opened.
A voice said:
“That's enough.”
Adrian turned.
