Chapter 10 - The Hunt BeginsSirens screamed beneath Whitmore House.

The hidden command center went into lockdown.
Elena shouted orders.
“North tunnel!”
Evelyn grabbed Grace.
“Stay with me.”
Adrian moved toward the main terminal.
“What are they trying to access?”
“The Black Meridian archive.”
“Why?”
“Because you are the final authorization.”
Elena opened a compartment.
Inside was a fingerprint scanner.
“Your father created the system.”
Adrian stared.
“You're saying my fingerprints can unlock all of it?”
“Yes.”
“Then destroy it.”
Elena shook her head.
“Too late.”
The first explosion rocked the underground chamber.
Dust fell from the ceiling.
Grace coughed.
“Who's attacking?”
Elena looked at Adrian.
“Your father's private army.”
Adrian laughed bitterly.
“My father has an army.”
“He has had one for decades.”
The tunnel door burst open.
Men in black entered.
Adrian grabbed Grace and pulled her behind a steel column.
Gunfire filled the room.
Evelyn returned fire.
Elena activated an emergency passage.
“Go!”
They escaped.
But Victor was waiting.
He raised his weapon.
Grace froze.
Victor stared at her.
Then lowered the gun.
“Run.”
Adrian looked surprised.
“Why are you helping us?”
Victor glanced behind him.
“Because Malcolm killed my brother.”
Grace stepped forward.
“You worked for him.”
“I was afraid.”
Victor handed Adrian a keycard.
“This opens the executive vault.”
“What is in it?”
“Proof.”
Then a bullet struck Victor.
He collapsed.
Grace screamed.
Adrian pulled her away.
They ran.
Inside the vault, Adrian found hundreds of files.
One folder carried his name.
He opened it.
Inside was a photograph of himself sleeping.
Another showed him at university.
Another showed him meeting Evelyn.
Another showed Grace entering Whitmore House.
Adrian's stomach twisted.
Every major event in his life had been monitored.
Manipulated.
Maybe even engineered.
Then he found a document marked:
PROJECT HEIR.
He opened it.
His hands trembled.
It described a long-term plan to shape Adrian into a ruthless executive.
Every employee he fired.
Every marriage conflict.
Every financial crisis.
Every betrayal.
Many had been deliberately arranged.
Adrian hadn't built Whitmore Global alone.
He had been trained to inherit it.
Grace looked over his shoulder.
“This is monstrous.”
Adrian stared at the final page.
There was one sentence:
THE HEIR MUST BECOME EMOTIONLESS BEFORE CONTROL IS TRANSFERRED.
Below it was another signature.
Not Nathan's.
Elena's.
Adrian looked at his mother.
“You did this too.”
Elena said nothing.
His voice broke.
“All those years…”
“I had to.”
“You turned me into a weapon.”
“To save you.”
“I never asked to be saved!”
Elena finally cried.
“I know.”
Then the vault doors slammed shut.
A screen switched on.
Nathan Whitmore appeared.
He looked older.
But alive.
“Adrian.”
Adrian stepped toward the screen.
“Dad.”
Nathan smiled.
“There you are.”
Adrian's eyes burned.
Nathan continued.
“I wondered how long it would take you to discover the truth.”
Adrian stared.
“Where are you?”
Nathan laughed.
“Inside your house.”
Then every screen displayed the same image.
Whitmore House.
From above.
Surrounded by armed vehicles.
Nathan's voice echoed:
May you like
“Come outside, son.”
“It's time we finish what we started.”
