Chapter 12 - The Inheritance No One ExpectedAdrian stared at the document.

Grace's hands shook.
“I never knew.”
“Neither did I.”
“Then why would they name me?”
“Because someone planned this years ago.”
Grace shook her head.
“My mother?”
“Maybe.”
They returned to the hidden command center.
Elena was gone.
Evelyn was missing.
Malcolm had disappeared.
Everything seemed to be collapsing at once.
Adrian opened the archive again.
The beneficiary clause had been added eleven years earlier.
The same year Clara disappeared.
Grace whispered:
“She trusted me before she even knew me.”
“No.”
Adrian looked closer.
The document wasn't signed by Clara.
It was signed by Nathan.
Grace stepped backward.
“Then your father wanted me to inherit everything?”
“Not everything.”
Adrian pointed to a hidden clause.
“The company.”
Another page.
“The offshore accounts.”
Another.
“The Black Meridian archive.”
Grace shook her head.
“Why?”
Adrian looked at her.
“Because you were never supposed to know you were being prepared.”
Grace stared at him.
“What do you mean?”
A recording began.
Clara appeared.
“Grace, if you're seeing this, I failed to protect you.”
Grace's face crumbled.
Clara continued.
“Your mother and I discovered the truth about Whitmore.”
“She believed Adrian could be saved.”
Grace began crying.
“We created a plan.”
The recording showed documents.
Names.
Dates.
Money transfers.
At the center was Grace.
“She was placed inside Whitmore House.”
Adrian froze.
“You were planted?”
Grace turned toward him.
“I swear I didn't know.”
He believed her.
Because she was crying too hard to pretend.
Clara continued.
“Our goal was never to take the company.”
“It was to expose Black Meridian.”
Adrian realized the truth.
Grace had unknowingly been the final piece.
The maid.
The stranger.
The innocent person who treated a billionaire like a human being.
That was exactly why the inheritance had been designed for her.
The system needed someone untouched by greed.
Suddenly the lights went out.
A single sound came from the doorway.
Clapping.
Malcolm stepped into the room.
“Beautiful.”
Adrian raised his gun.
Malcolm smiled.
“Don't.”
He pointed toward the screens.
“Because you haven't seen the last recording.”
He pressed a button.
Nathan appeared.
But this time, Nathan wasn't alone.
Beside him stood Adrian's son, Daniel.
Daniel was tied to a chair.
Evelyn stood behind him.
Nathan looked into the camera.
“Adrian.”
His voice was calm.
“You have one hour.”
“To do what?”
“Bring Grace to the old Whitmore factory.”
“Why?”
Nathan smiled.
“Because she is the only person who can unlock the final vault.”
Grace whispered:
“What is in it?”
Nathan answered through the screen.
“Everything.”
The screen went black.
Malcolm smiled.
“Now you understand.”
Adrian turned toward Grace.
She looked terrified.
But then she said something that made Malcolm's smile disappear.
“I know where the factory is.”
Malcolm stared.

Grace continued:
“And I know a secret entrance.”
