Chapter 14 - The Son Who Chose His FatherDaniel stood shaking.

The gun trembled in his hand.
Evelyn whispered:
“Daniel…”
He looked at his father.
“I heard everything.”
Nathan stared.
“You ungrateful little fool.”
Daniel shook his head.
“You made me watch.”
“What?”
“You made me watch Mom lie.”
Nathan stepped forward.
“You don't understand the world.”
Daniel laughed bitterly.
“I understand enough.”
He raised the gun.
Adrian stepped between them.
“Don't.”
Daniel looked at him.
“You're protecting him?”
“No.”
“Then why?”
“Because becoming him isn't revenge.”
Nathan laughed.
“You see?”
Adrian ignored him.
He turned to Daniel.
“Put the gun down.”
Daniel slowly lowered it.
Nathan moved.
Evelyn fired.
Nathan collapsed.
For several seconds, nobody spoke.
Then sirens echoed outside.
Grace looked at Adrian.
“Who called them?”
Adrian smiled.
“You did.”
Grace frowned.
“I did?”
“You were wearing a microphone.”
She stared at him.
“When?”
“The day I first met you.”
Her eyes widened.
“You were still testing me.”
“No.”
Adrian shook his head.
“That was before I trusted you.”
He looked at the recording.
“I needed insurance.”
Police stormed the factory.
Agents seized the archive.
The hidden empire began collapsing within hours.
Malcolm survived.
Victor testified.
Evelyn confessed everything.
Nathan was taken into custody.
And Black Meridian became the largest financial scandal in the country.
But one question remained.
Why had Adrian created the beggar test in the first place?
Weeks later, Whitmore House was quiet.
No guards shouting.
No secret meetings.
No hidden cameras.
Adrian stood at the front gate.
Grace joined him.
“You changed it.”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
He looked at the mansion.
“I thought money told you who people were.”
“And now?”
“Sometimes having less tells you more.”
Grace smiled.
Then Adrian handed her an envelope.
“What is this?”
“Your new contract.”
She opened it.
Her eyes widened.
CEO.
Whitmore Foundation.
Annual compensation.
Ownership stake.
She looked at him.
“You're giving me a company?”
“No.”
“What then?”
“Trust.”
Grace smiled.
“You still owe me twenty dollars.”
Adrian laughed.
“Interest?”
“Fruit.”
He shook his head.
“I can manage that.”
But before they could walk away, a black car stopped at the gate.
A lawyer stepped out.
He carried a sealed envelope.
“For Mr. Whitmore.”
Adrian opened it.
His smile disappeared.
There was one sentence inside.
YOU CAUGHT THE KING. BUT THE KING WAS NEVER THE PLAYER.
Grace looked at him.
“What does it mean?”
Adrian turned toward the mansion.
“I don't know.”
The lawyer whispered:
“There's more.”
He handed Adrian a photograph.
It showed Adrian's father.
Nathan.
Standing beside another man.
A man Adrian recognized immediately.
Malcolm.
And beside them was someone else.
Someone who should have been dead.
May you like
Adrian's mother.
Elena.
