Chapter 11 - The Woman Behind the WallThe caller hung up.

Richard stared at Daniel.

“Where is she?”

“I don't know.”

“Then who does?”

Daniel looked toward the basement wall.

“There is a second room.”

They searched for an entrance.

Behind a shelf, they found a narrow passage.

The passage led to another chamber.

Empty.

Except for a chair and a small recorder.

Richard pressed play.

Elena's voice filled the room.

“If you've reached this room, then Marcus knows.”

A pause.

“You have to understand why I disappeared.”

Richard closed his eyes.

“I wasn't taken because of the money.”

Mark looked up.

Elena continued:

“I was taken because I found the real reason Marcus built the entire network.”

Richard listened.

“He wasn't trying to steal the company.”

Silence.

“He was trying to force Richard to sell it.”

Richard frowned.

Why?

Elena explained.

“Someone offered him a fortune for the company's mineral rights.”

Richard froze.

His company owned land rich in lithium deposits.

The value had increased dramatically.

Marcus wanted to sell everything.

Richard had refused.

Elena had discovered contracts proving that foreign shell companies were waiting to buy the property.

Marcus wanted Richard discredited.

If Richard lost control, Marcus could force the sale.

Elena continued.

“But there's more.”

Her voice softened.

“The money was never the goal.”

Richard leaned closer.

“Marcus believes Richard hid the original ownership documents.”

The original documents.

The papers proving Richard still controlled the company.

The vault.

The brass key.

The airplane.

Everything connected.

Elena continued.

“I hid a copy of the ownership certificate.”

Richard's heart raced.

“Where?”

Her answer came.

“With Noah.”

Mark stared.

“Again?”

Elena explained:

“Noah's wooden airplane contains more than the memory card.”

Richard pulled it from his coat.

He opened the hidden compartment.

There was another layer beneath the key.

He pushed it.

A thin metal plate slid out.

Under it was a folded certificate.

Original.

Signed.

Sealed.

Richard looked at the date.

The document confirmed he owned seventy-two percent of the company.

Marcus owned nothing.

Mark had no controlling shares either.

Richard understood.

The forged transfer from Mark meant nothing.

Marcus had spent years building an empire on paperwork that wasn't legally valid.

But someone had also altered the company's digital records.

Richard whispered:

“They needed me to sign a new agreement.”

Mark nodded.

“That's why they kept trying to make you look unstable.”

Richard looked at him.

Claudia.

The strange medication.

The fake doctor's notes.

The staged conversations.

The rumors.

They hadn't been trying to kill him.

They had been trying to make him legally incapable of controlling his own assets.

Daniel spoke.

“Tomorrow morning, Claudia planned to bring an attorney.”

Richard frowned.

“For what?”

“For a guardianship petition.”

Silence.

Mark sat down.

“She was going to have you declared mentally incapable.”

Richard looked at the certificate.

“And then sell the company.”

Daniel nodded.

Richard suddenly understood why the birthday dinner mattered.

The humiliation.

Noah.

The airplane.

The snow.

Claudia had wanted Richard emotionally destabilized.

Then she would use the incident as evidence that the family needed intervention.

Richard almost smiled.

Not from amusement.

From realization.

“She made one mistake.”

Daniel asked:

“What?”

Richard looked toward Noah.

“She showed me the toy.”

Noah touched his grandfather's sleeve.

“Grandpa?”

“Yes?”

“Mommy said not to be scared.”

Richard knelt.

“Where is your mommy?”

Noah pointed toward the old camera.

“She told me to tell you something.”

Richard's heart stopped.

“What?”

Noah whispered:

“She is under the mountain.”

Daniel stared.

“The mountain property.”

Richard stood.

The abandoned lodge.

The place where Elena had once gone skiing with Noah.

A place Marcus had purchased secretly through a shell company.

Richard suddenly understood.

Elena's message had never been literal.

She had hidden the location in Noah's memory.

Richard asked:

“What else did Mommy tell you?”

Noah thought.

Then said:

“She said the door is red.”

Daniel's eyes widened.

“There is a service tunnel under the old mountain lodge.”

Richard looked at him.

“And the entrance?”

May you like

Daniel swallowed.

“Behind a red door.”
