Chapter 3: The Bride's Secret Message

The words hung in the air.
"She planned this."
Emily felt as if the entire world had shifted beneath her feet.
For the last hour, she had believed she was uncovering a murder.
A fake bride.
A hidden identity.
A conspiracy.
But now the truth was becoming something much worse.
Amina Rahman, the woman everyone believed had died at her own wedding, might have designed the entire nightmare herself.
Emily looked at the unconscious woman on the examination table.
Sara Malik.
The fake bride.
The woman who had worn Amina's dress.
The woman who knew where Amina was.
Too many questions.
Not enough answers.
"You're lying," Emily said.
The groom looked at her.
"I wish I was."
"No."
Emily stepped forward.
"You expect me to believe that a woman planned her own disappearance, replaced herself with someone else, and left behind a fake death?"
The groom didn't respond.
Because he knew how impossible it sounded.
The stranger from the ventilation shaft laughed quietly.
"She always was good at making people underestimate her."
Emily turned toward him.
"And who exactly are you?"
The stranger smiled.
"My name doesn't matter."
"Everything about you matters right now."
He looked amused.
"You work with dead people, don't you?"
Emily frowned.
"What?"
"You spend every night looking at bodies and trying to figure out how they died."
He stepped closer.
"But tonight, you're looking at something much more dangerous."
The groom immediately moved between them.
"Don't listen to him."
The stranger's smile faded.
"You still think you're the hero."
The groom's jaw tightened.
Emily noticed something.
The stranger and the groom knew each other.
Not casually.
Personally.
"You two have met before."
Neither answered.
That was the answer.
Emily backed away slowly.
"I want the truth."
The groom looked at her.
"You can't handle the truth."
Emily almost laughed.
A dead woman had started breathing on her table.
A fake bride had been exposed.
A stranger had crawled through a hospital vent.
She was already far beyond normal.
"Try me."
For several seconds, nobody spoke.
Then the groom finally said:
"My name is Adam Rahman."
Emily looked at him.
"Rahman?"
He nodded.
"I'm Amina's older brother."
The room went silent.
Emily stared.
"But the wedding file says..."
"That I was the groom?"
Adam looked down.
"Because that's what everyone was supposed to believe."
Emily felt a wave of confusion.
"Then who was the real groom?"
Adam didn't answer immediately.
Instead, he looked at the wedding ring mark on his finger.
"The man everyone called Amina's husband."
A cold feeling spread through Emily.
"You mean..."
"He's not her husband."
Adam looked toward the morgue door.
"He's the person who destroyed our family."
Before Emily could ask more, a loud crash came from the hallway.
Everyone froze.
The stranger immediately moved toward the door.
"They found us."
Adam looked at Emily.
"How much do you trust hospital security?"
Emily frowned.
"What?"
"Answer."
"Not much. Why?"
"Because someone opened every locked door in this basement without triggering an alarm."
Emily's stomach tightened.
The morgue wasn't broken into.
Someone inside the hospital had helped them.
The lights flickered.
Then the intercom system activated.
A voice echoed through the basement.
"Emily Carter."
Her blood turned cold.
The voice knew her name.
"Step away from the body."
Adam's expression changed.
He recognized the voice.
"Who is that?"
Emily whispered.
Adam didn't answer.
Because the voice continued.
"You have approximately three minutes before the police arrive."
A pause.
Then:
"And when they do, they will not find a missing bride."
The voice became colder.
"They will find three armed criminals, one unconscious woman, and a morgue worker who tampered with a body."
Emily felt her heart sink.
A trap.
They had been framed.
The stranger cursed.
"He planned ahead."
Adam looked furious.
"Of course he did."
Emily looked between them.
"Who is he?"
Adam finally said the name.
"Daniel Voss."
The name meant nothing to Emily.
But the reaction from the stranger told her everything.
He stopped moving.
For the first time all night...
He looked afraid.
"Daniel Voss is dead."
Adam shook his head.
"No."
He looked at the security cameras.
Static covered every screen.
"That's what he wanted everyone to believe."
Emily felt a chill.
"The groom..."
Adam nodded.
"The man who married Amina tonight."
A horrible realization formed.
The wedding.
The fake death.
The replacement bride.
The warning.
Everything connected to one person.
Daniel Voss.
But why?
Why would he fake his own identity?
Why would Amina disappear?
Why would another woman take her place?
Then Emily remembered something.
The hijab.
The reason Sara had been disguised.
There was something hidden underneath.
Something someone didn't want discovered.
Emily turned back toward Sara.
"Wait."
Everyone looked at her.
"The hijab wasn't only hiding her face."
She reached toward the fabric carefully.
"There was something else."
Adam stepped closer.
"What?"
Emily examined the inside seam.
A tiny stitch.
Almost invisible.
Someone had sewn something into the cloth.
She grabbed scissors and cut the thread.
A small piece of paper fell onto the metal table.
Everyone stared.
Emily unfolded it.
Only five words were written.
Five words that made Adam's face lose all color.
Because he recognized Amina's handwriting.
The message said:
"The first victim was not me."
Nobody moved.
Then Sara suddenly woke up.
Her eyes opened wide.
She grabbed Emily's hand.
And whispered:
"You're too late."
Emily looked at her.
"Too late for what?"
Sara's eyes filled with tears.
"For the second wedding."
A silence followed.
Adam stepped forward.
"What second wedding?"
Sara looked at him.
Then at Emily.
Her voice barely escaped.
"Tomorrow night..."
She swallowed.
"Daniel Voss is getting married again."
Emily felt a cold wave pass through her.
"To who?"
Sara closed her eyes.
And whispered:
May you like
"To Amina's sister."
