Chapter 12: The Mother’s Final Lie

The entire station went silent.

Every eye turned toward Nadia.

Emily felt her heartbeat pounding in her ears.

The woman who had returned from the dead.

The woman who claimed she had spent eight years hiding to expose the Circle.

The woman who said she was protecting her children.

Now Daniel was accusing her.

And the worst part...

Nobody immediately called him a liar.

Because everyone in that room had learned one painful lesson.

The truth was always buried under another layer.

Nadia looked at Daniel.

"You always were good at manipulating people."

Daniel smiled.

"And you always were good at pretending you're the victim."

Adam stepped between them.

"Enough."

His voice was shaking.

"I want the truth."

Nadia looked at him.

"Adam..."

"No."

His eyes filled with anger.

"Not another secret."

A pause.

"Not another story where you say you were protecting us."

The words hurt her.

Emily saw it.

For the first time, Nadia looked less like a powerful woman who controlled everything.

She looked like a mother who had lost her son.

"Tell me."

Adam's voice broke.

"Did you kill Dad?"

The question changed the room.

Even Daniel stopped smiling.

Nadia looked away.

And that was enough.

Emily felt the tension shift.

Because sometimes silence was a confession.

"No..."

Adam whispered.

"No, you didn't."

Nadia finally spoke.

"I didn't kill your father."

Everyone waited.

"But I let him die."

The words hit harder.

Adam stepped back.

"What?"

Nadia closed her eyes.

"Your father was going to destroy Amina."

Emily frowned.

"How?"

Nadia looked at her.

"By making her the next leader of the Circle."

A cold feeling spread through Emily.

"What?"

"Daniel wasn't the first person who controlled it."

Nadia looked toward the city.

"Your father was."

Adam shook his head.

"My father was a businessman."

Nadia smiled sadly.

"That's what everyone believed."

She walked toward the old station wall.

"There are people who build companies."

A pause.

"And there are people who build systems."

She looked back.

"Your father built a system where powerful people could erase their mistakes."

Emily thought about the women.

The seven deaths.

The fake identities.

The disappearances.

"Then why involve Amina?"

Nadia answered:

"Because she was the perfect successor."

Adam's face turned pale.

"She was his daughter."

"Exactly."

Nadia's voice became colder.

"He believed she would inherit everything."

Emily looked at her.

"But you disagreed."

Nadia nodded.

"Because I knew what the Circle would turn her into."

Eight years ago.

The night Nadia disappeared.

She wasn't running away.

She was hunting.

After discovering her husband's secret empire, Nadia found the one person who could expose everything.

A young investigator.

A man named Marcus Vale.

But before she could release the evidence...

Her husband discovered the betrayal.

He kidnapped Amina.

Sixteen years old.

Alone.

Terrified.

The message was clear.

Obey.

Or lose her daughter.

Nadia made a choice.

She faked her death.

She disappeared.

And she let the world believe she was gone.

Because a dead woman was harder to control.

Back in the station...

Emily looked at Nadia.

"Then why didn't you return?"

Nadia didn't answer.

Adam did.

"Because she wasn't hiding from them."

Everyone looked at him.

Adam continued:

"She was hiding from us."

Nadia's face changed.

"Adam..."

"No."

His voice was quiet now.

"You weren't protecting us."

A pause.

"You were protecting the secret."

Emily looked confused.

"What secret?"

Adam stared at his mother.

"The night our father died..."

He swallowed.

"I was there."

Silence.

Nadia's expression changed.

Emily felt something terrible coming.

"I saw what happened."

Adam looked down.

"I saw Mom standing over him."

Nobody moved.

Daniel smiled slightly.

"There it is."

Adam looked furious.

"Shut up."

But Daniel continued:

"The perfect family."

He laughed.

"Everyone protecting everyone."

Emily looked at Nadia.

"Did you kill him?"

Nadia looked at Adam.

Then at Emily.

"No."

A pause.

"But I know who did."

Everyone waited.

Nadia whispered:

"Your brother."

Adam froze.

"My brother?"

"Elias."

The name hung in the air.

"No."

Adam shook his head.

"Elias was a child."

Nadia looked at him.

"Yes."

She said quietly.

"But children can become monsters when adults create them."

Suddenly, every screen in the station turned on.

The same symbol appeared.

The silver circle.

The Circle.

Then a video began playing.

Elias appeared.

Calm.

Perfectly dressed.

Sitting in a dark room.

He looked directly at the camera.

"Hello, brother."

Adam froze.

Elias smiled.

"I know everyone is confused."

A pause.

"Especially you."

He leaned closer.

"You spent years wondering why I disappeared."

The screen flickered.

"You thought I was broken."

Emily watched Adam.

His face was destroyed.

Elias continued:

"But you never asked the real question."

A pause.

"Why did Mother choose you?"

Adam looked stunned.

Elias smiled.

"Why were you the son she saved?"

The video showed old footage.

Two young boys.

Two identical faces.

One standing beside their mother.

One watching from the shadows.

Elias's voice continued:

"You were always the favorite."

Adam whispered:

"No..."

"You had the family."

"You had the love."

"You had the name."

The screen went black.

Then one final sentence appeared:

"So I took everything you had."

The video ended.

Nobody spoke.

Then Emily's phone vibrated.

A new message.

From Amina.

Only four words.

She opened it.

Her face turned pale.

Because the message said:

"Elias is not my brother."

A second message arrived.

May you like

"He is my father."
