Chapter 13: The Son Who Was Never a Son

Emily stared at the message.

Her fingers went cold.

The screen remained in front of her.

Four words.

Four impossible words.

"Elias is my father."

Her mind refused to accept it.

No.

It made no sense.

Elias was Adam's twin brother.

A man who had supposedly disappeared decades ago.

A man who looked exactly like Adam.

A man who was supposed to be Amina's uncle.

Not her father.

Emily slowly raised her eyes.

Everyone was waiting for her reaction.

Adam noticed immediately.

"What did she say?"

Emily didn't answer.

Adam stepped closer.

"Emily."

She looked at him.

And for a moment, she didn't know whether she was protecting him or protecting herself.

Then she handed him the phone.

Adam read the message.

His face changed.

Not anger.

Not disbelief.

Something worse.

Fear.

"No."

He shook his head.

"No, that's impossible."

Nadia closed her eyes.

And Emily saw it.

The smallest reaction.

The smallest crack.

Nadia knew.

She already knew.

"You knew."

Emily's voice was quiet.

Everyone looked at Nadia.

"You knew."

Nadia remained silent.

Adam turned toward her.

"Mom."

His voice broke.

"Tell me she is lying."

Nadia looked at her son.

And for the first time that night...

She couldn't.

Because there was no lie left.

The old station seemed to shrink around them.

Every secret the Rahman family had buried was crawling back from the darkness.

Emily looked at Nadia.

"Who is Elias?"

Nadia didn't answer immediately.

She walked to the wall.

There were old photographs hanging there.

Pictures from years ago.

The Rahman family.

A father.

A mother.

Two sons.

One daughter.

A perfect family.

A perfect illusion.

Nadia touched the picture.

"When I married your father..."

She paused.

"I thought I knew him."

Her fingers moved over the photograph.

"I was wrong."

Emily listened.

"Your father had another identity before he became Rahman."

Adam frowned.

"What?"

Nadia continued.

"Before wealth. Before power. Before the Circle."

She looked at them.

"He was a man running from his past."

Marcus suddenly looked uncomfortable.

Nadia noticed.

"You know."

Marcus looked away.

Emily turned.

"Marcus?"

He sighed.

"Your father wasn't the founder of the Circle."

Everyone looked at him.

"He inherited it."

A cold silence followed.

"From who?"

Marcus answered:

"Elias."

Adam froze.

"No."

Marcus nodded.

"Your father didn't create the system."

A pause.

"He took it from his own father."

Emily felt dizzy.

A family empire built on lies.

A family tree full of monsters.

"So Elias..."

Nadia finished the sentence.

"Elias was never just your brother."

She looked at Adam.

"He was your father's father."

Nobody spoke.

The truth finally appeared.

Not a brother.

Not a son.

A grandfather.

A man who had hidden behind another identity.

Emily felt sick.

"Then why does he look like Adam?"

Nadia answered:

"Because Adam is not Elias's twin."

A pause.

"He is his copy."

The words destroyed the room.

Adam stepped backward.

"No."

Nadia looked at him with sadness.

"When you were born, Elias was already involved with the Circle."

Adam stared.

"I don't understand."

"No one was supposed to know."

Nadia's voice became softer.

"Your father and Elias created a program."

Marcus looked down.

"The Identity Project."

Emily looked at him.

"What is that?"

Marcus answered:

"Creating replacements."

Silence.

"People who could inherit names."

"Take positions."

"Continue bloodlines."

Emily felt a chill.

"You're saying Adam..."

Nadia nodded.

"Was created to replace Elias."

Adam's face went pale.

"No."

He touched his own face.

"My memories..."

"Are real."

Nadia looked at him.

"But your origin is not what you believe."

Adam looked broken.

"Am I even your son?"

Nadia stepped forward.

For the first time, her powerful expression disappeared.

"You are."

A pause.

"The only thing in this world that was ever truly mine."

Adam looked at her.

"Then why hide it?"

Nadia's eyes filled with tears.

"Because the moment Elias knew you existed..."

She swallowed.

"He would kill you."

A loud sound interrupted them.

A phone ringing.

Everyone looked.

It wasn't Emily's.

It wasn't Adam's.

It was Nadia's.

She looked at the screen.

Her expression changed instantly.

"No."

Emily noticed.

"What?"

Nadia slowly answered.

Nobody spoke.

Then Elias's voice came through.

Calm.

Almost gentle.

"Hello, Mother."

Nadia closed her eyes.

"You shouldn't have called."

Elias laughed.

"You always say that."

A pause.

"But you always answer."

Adam stepped closer.

"Elias."

Silence.

Then:

"Brother."

Adam's face tightened.

"You framed me."

"No."

Elias sounded amused.

"I revealed you."

Adam clenched his fists.

"Where is Amina?"

Another pause.

Then Elias said something that made everyone freeze.

"She's standing right beside me."

Emily's heart stopped.

Amina.

Alive.

With Elias.

Then Amina's voice came through.

But she wasn't crying.

She wasn't afraid.

She sounded calm.

"Emily."

"I'm sorry."

Emily grabbed the phone.

"Amina, where are you?"

Amina didn't answer.

Instead, she said:

"I finally found out why Daniel chose me."

Silence.

"Why?"

Amina whispered:

"Because I am not the victim."

A pause.

"I am the last piece of the Circle."

Everyone froze.

Then the call ended.

Five seconds later...

Every television screen in the station turned on.

A live broadcast.

Amina appeared.

Standing beside Elias.

Wearing the same wedding dress from the night she disappeared.

But this time...

She was smiling.

Behind her was a room full of people.

Powerful people.

Politicians.

Business owners.

Judges.

Everyone who secretly controlled the city.

Amina looked into the camera.

"My name is Amina Rahman."

She smiled.

"And tonight..."

She raised a glass.

"I become the new leader of the Circle."

Emily couldn't move.

Because the woman they had spent the entire night trying to save...

was not waiting to be rescued.

May you like

She was taking the throne.
