Chapter 1 - The Room Full of CashI walked into my nearly empty mansion and found my housekeeper standing over stacks of cash, secret bank records, and boxes of hidden documents.

For three seconds, I could not move.
The room had once been my wife's favorite dressing room.
Vanessa used to spend hours in front of the mirrors, surrounded by perfume bottles, silk gowns, and diamonds. Now the room looked like the back office of a criminal organization.
Cash covered the bed.
Not hundreds.
Millions.
Bundles of hundred-dollar bills were stacked in neat towers across the white sheets.
Bank statements covered the floor.
Contracts had been spread across the carpet.
Three black flash drives sat beside sealed envelopes.
Rosa Martinez stood in the center of it all wearing thin gray gloves.
She looked at me.
I looked at the money.
Then I looked at her.
"What did you do?"
Her expression did not change.
"Close the door, Mr. Calloway."
"How much is there?"
"Enough to make powerful people afraid."
I stepped inside.
My heart was pounding so hard that I could hear it.
A year ago, I had owned fourteen luxury towers in Miami, three beachfront resorts, a private yacht, six houses, and enough cash to make problems disappear with a phone call.
Then my partners vanished.
The money vanished.
My companies collapsed.
Federal investigators arrived.
The banks froze everything.
Cars were seized.
Properties were auctioned.
My yacht was taken from the marina.
And Vanessa left two weeks after the first lawsuit became public.
She had taken jewelry.
Clothes.
A private attorney.
And every excuse imaginable.
Rosa was the only person who stayed.
She had cleaned my house for fifteen years.
She never asked for anything.
Now she was standing beside what looked like the remains of my entire fortune.
"I thought you were stealing from me," I said.
"I know."
"You've been hiding this?"
"I have been protecting it."
I laughed once.
Not because anything was funny.
Because the alternative was screaming.
"Protecting what? A fortune that doesn't exist anymore?"
Rosa reached for a folder.
She placed it in my hands.
"Read page seven."
I opened it.
The first page showed an account from a bank in the Cayman Islands.
The second showed a company registered in Delaware.
The third showed transfers.
The fourth showed my signature.
The fifth showed a purchase authorization.
Then I reached page seven.
My stomach dropped.
There was Vanessa's name.
Not as my wife.
As an authorized controller.
I turned the page.
Harold Bennett's name appeared beneath hers.
Harold.
My best friend for thirty-one years.
The man who had introduced me to two of my partners.
The man who had stood beside me when I built my first tower.
The man who called every week after my bankruptcy.
The man who had invited me to dinner two nights earlier, then disappeared behind a note claiming there was a family emergency.
"What am I looking at?"
"The money they moved."
"Whose money?"
"Yours."
I stared at her.
"That's impossible."
Rosa pointed toward the bed.
"Those documents prove your money never disappeared."
I looked down at the cash.
"Then where did it go?"
"Into accounts nobody could trace back to you."
She handed me another envelope.
Inside was a copy of a transfer request.
Ten million dollars.
The transfer had been initiated eleven months before my empire collapsed.
Eleven months.
Before the investigation.
Before the accusations.
Before the bankruptcy.
Before Vanessa filed for divorce.
Someone had been moving money long before the world knew I was in trouble.
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"Because I didn't know whom to trust."
"You could trust me."
Rosa's eyes hardened.
"Could I?"
That question hit harder than it should have.
She pulled a small envelope from beneath the mattress.
"Open this last."
I did.
Inside was a photograph.
It showed Vanessa entering a private bank in Miami.
Harold stood beside her.
Behind them was one of my senior partners.
Robert Kane.
The same Robert Kane who had supposedly disappeared six days before investigators arrived.
I turned the photograph over.
There was a handwritten date.
Three days after Robert's disappearance.
My hands began to shake.
"Where did you get this?"
Rosa looked toward the hallway.
"From somewhere they thought nobody would search."
"Where?"
"Your old office."
"My office was searched."
"Not all of it."
A loud sound exploded outside.
Cars.
Several of them.
Then the unmistakable pulse of sirens.
Red and blue lights flashed through the windows.
I rushed toward the curtains.
Police cars were flooding through my gates.
Rosa didn't move.
She simply stared at the approaching vehicles.
I looked back at her.
"What is happening?"
She slowly removed her gloves.
Then she whispered something that made my blood turn cold.
"They know I found it."
The front doors exploded open.
Officers rushed into the mansion.
Someone shouted my name.
Someone else shouted for everyone to get on the ground.
I looked at Rosa.
She was already reaching for another envelope.
"There is one thing you don't know, Mr. Calloway."
"What?"
Her eyes met mine.
"Your bankruptcy was only the beginning."
May you like
Then she pointed at the door.
"And the person who ordered your arrest is standing outside."
