Chapter 13 - They found Olivia's jacket near the road.Nothing else.

No blood.
No footprints.
No struggle.
Only a small brass key.
The same kind found throughout the house.
Adrian went silent.
Daniel grabbed his shoulder.
"Don't lose control."
"My daughter is missing."
"That's what he wants."
"I don't care."
Elena stepped between them.
"Then think."
Adrian looked at her.
"If he wanted Olivia dead, he wouldn't have left the key."
"Exactly."
Maya turned the key over.
There was an address engraved on it.
An old theater.
Closed for twenty years.
They went there.
Inside, the auditorium was empty.
Dust covered the seats.
A single spotlight illuminated the stage.
Olivia sat in a chair beneath it.
Alive.
Unharmed.
But tied down.
Adrian rushed forward.
A speaker crackled.
"Stop."
He froze.
The old man's voice.
"One more step and the floor opens."
Adrian looked down.
A thin line circled Olivia's chair.
A pressure plate.
Maya whispered.
"The stage is rigged."
Daniel looked around.
"This was one of Father's old facilities."
Adrian stared at the stage.
"Let her go."
"Not yet."
The curtain opened.
Eleanor Vale walked out.
Adrian stopped breathing.
She looked at him.
"My son."
Adrian's eyes filled.
"You lied to me."
"I protected you."
"You disappeared."
"Your father made me."
"Then stop him."
Eleanor looked toward the shadows.
"I tried."
The old man laughed through the speakers.
"You always were weak."
Eleanor looked upward.
"You've already lost."
"No."
He pressed a button.
The floor beneath Olivia dropped an inch.
She screamed.
Adrian stepped forward.
"Tell me what you want."
"You."
Adrian swallowed.
"Fine."
"Come onto the stage."
Daniel grabbed him.
"Don't."
Adrian pulled free.
"I have no choice."
He stepped forward.
The pressure mechanism clicked.
Nothing happened.
The old man laughed.
"You think you've won?"
Adrian looked at Olivia.
Then at Eleanor.
"What don't I know?"
Eleanor's voice trembled.
"You are not Adrian's biological brother."
Daniel stared at her.
"What?"
She looked at him.
"You were adopted."
Silence.
Adrian turned toward Daniel.
Daniel's face was blank.
"No."
"You were brought into the family to replace a child."
"Which child?"
Eleanor looked at Elena.
"Claire."
Elena froze.
Daniel whispered:
"Then who am I?"
Eleanor's eyes filled with tears.
"The child your father thought he had lost."
Daniel staggered.
"You mean..."
"Yes."
Daniel was Claire's biological brother.
Not Adrian's.
The entire Vale family had been built on lies.
The old man interrupted.
"Enough."
A screen lit up.
Hospital footage.
A newborn baby.
Eleanor holding him.
The date was twelve years ago.
Adrian stared.
"Daniel was the baby."
"Yes," Eleanor said.
"Then Claire..."
"Was never your sister."
The old man had switched the identities.
He had taken one child and renamed another.
Elena looked at Daniel.
Everything they knew about the family had collapsed.
Then Olivia spoke.
"Dad."
He turned.
She wasn't crying anymore.
She was looking at the control panel.
"I found the release."
Maya ran toward her.
But the stage mechanism moved.
The trap door opened.
Elena screamed.
Daniel lunged.
He caught Olivia's arm.
Adrian grabbed Daniel.
Together they pulled her free.
The stage slammed shut.
The old man's voice became furious.
"Kill the lights."
Everything went black.
A gunshot.
Then another.
When the emergency lights returned, Eleanor was on the floor.
Blood spread across her dress.
Adrian dropped beside her.
"Mom."
She grabbed his hand.
"Listen."
He leaned closer.
"Your father isn't the one who started this."
Adrian froze.
"Who did?"
Eleanor looked directly at Elena.
"The person who has been protecting her."
Elena turned.
May you like
Maya was standing behind her.
Holding a gun.
