Chapter 2: The Secret Beneath the White Dress The silence inside the wedding hall felt heavier than any sound. Only minutes earlier, everyone had been celebrating. Now, every eye was fixed on Vanessa. The bride who had walked in surrounded by flowers and applause was suddenly standing alone beneath the bright chandelier lights, holding onto a secret nobody understood. Lucas still held Lily tightly. His daughter’s small hands were wrapped around his arm, as if she was afraid that if she let go, Vanessa would somehow take him away. That feeling hurt him more than anything. Because children did not invent fear without a reason. “Lucas…” Vanessa finally spoke. Her voice was softer now. Different. The confident woman who always knew exactly what to say had disappeared. “I think you’re letting a child’s imagination destroy something beautiful.” Lucas looked at her. “A child’s imagination?” He repeated the words slowly. “Lily was locked inside a bathroom crying at my wedding.” Vanessa’s expression tightened. “I didn’t lock her there.” “Then who did?” The question landed like a stone. Vanessa looked away. Just for a moment. But Lucas saw it. And that was enough. “Vanessa.” His voice became colder. “I asked you a question.” She swallowed. “I don’t know.” A few guests exchanged uncomfortable looks. “You don’t know?” Lucas asked. Vanessa nodded quickly. “She probably went there herself. Children wander around. Maybe she got scared and misunderstood something she heard.” Lucas stared at her. But Lily suddenly spoke. “No.” Everyone looked down at her. The little girl wiped her tears with her sleeve. “She didn’t sound confused.” Lucas crouched beside her. “What did you hear, sweetheart?” Lily looked at Vanessa. “She was talking to Aunt Clara.” A strange expression crossed Vanessa’s face. Only for a second. But Lucas noticed. “Clara?” Vanessa’s sister. The woman who was supposed to be helping with the wedding preparations. Lucas turned around. “Where is Clara?” Nobody answered. The wedding coordinator looked nervous. “She left about twenty minutes ago.” Lucas frowned. “Left?” “Yes. She said she had an emergency.” That was strange. Very strange. Because Clara had been excited about this wedding. She had been one of the biggest supporters of Vanessa and Lucas’s relationship. At least, that was what Lucas believed. Then Lily grabbed his hand. “Daddy…” “What is it?” “She said something else.” Lucas leaned closer. “What?” Lily whispered: “She said she finally found the papers.” The room became silent again. Papers. Lucas felt something uncomfortable in his chest. “What papers?” Lily shook her head. “I don’t know.” Vanessa suddenly stepped forward. “Lucas, this is ridiculous.” Her voice became sharper. “You’re seriously going to question me because of something a child overheard?” Lucas looked at her. “No.” He looked around the room. “I’m questioning you because your reaction is telling me there is something wrong.” Vanessa’s face changed. “You don’t trust me?” Lucas didn’t answer immediately. Because that was the question he had been asking himself for months. Did he really know Vanessa? At the beginning, she seemed perfect. She met Lily at a park when Lucas was picking her up from school. Lily had dropped her toy rabbit, and Vanessa had been the person who picked it up. She had smiled. She had knelt down. She had talked to Lily like she mattered. That moment convinced Lucas. He thought he had found someone who could bring warmth back into their home. But recently… Small things had changed. Vanessa stopped spending time with Lily. She complained whenever Lucas planned family activities. She started saying things like: “She needs to understand that adults need privacy.” Or: “You can’t let your daughter control every decision in our marriage.” At the time, Lucas thought she was simply adjusting. Now… Those memories felt different. Like pieces of a puzzle he had refused to put together. “Open the dress.” The words shocked everyone. Lucas’s mother looked at him. “Lucas, what are you saying?” He didn’t look away from Vanessa. “You heard Lily.” Vanessa immediately stepped back. “No.” The answer came too quickly. Too strongly. The room froze. Lucas noticed. “If there’s nothing wrong, why are you afraid?” Vanessa’s breathing became faster. “You cannot humiliate me like this.” “I’m not trying to humiliate you.” Lucas looked at Lily. “I’m trying to protect my daughter.” That sentence changed everything. Because everyone understood. This was no longer about a wedding. It was about a father choosing his child. Vanessa’s mother suddenly stood up. “Lucas, you’re making a terrible mistake.” Lucas looked at her. “Why?” She hesitated. “My daughter loves Lily.” But even she sounded uncertain. Lucas slowly walked closer. “Then prove it.” Vanessa’s eyes widened. “What?” “Show everyone there is nothing hidden.” The entire room waited. The photographer quietly lowered his camera. The guests stopped whispering. The bride stood in the center of the hall. Alone. Finally, Vanessa looked at Lucas with tears forming in her eyes. “You really think I would hurt your daughter?” Lucas said nothing. That silence was her answer. A tear rolled down Vanessa’s cheek. Then she whispered: “Fine.” Everyone watched as she reached toward the side of her wedding gown. For a moment, Lucas thought she was going to reveal whatever was hidden. But instead… She smiled. A strange, bitter smile. “You want the truth?” Lucas stared at her. “Yes.” Vanessa slowly touched a hidden zipper beneath the layers of fabric. “I wanted to tell you after the ceremony.” The guests gasped. Lucas’s heart started pounding. “Tell me what?” Vanessa looked around the room. Then she looked directly at Lily. And what she said next changed everything. “I was never planning to become her mother.” A cold silence filled the hall. Lucas felt Lily’s hand tighten around his. Vanessa continued: “I knew from the beginning that Lily would always come first.” Her voice became calmer. Almost emotionless. “And I knew I could never compete with that.” Lucas stared at her in disbelief. “Then why did you marry me?” Vanessa looked down at the dress. “Because I thought I could change your priorities.” The guests looked horrified. Lucas’s expression hardened. “What does that mean?” Vanessa slowly pulled the hidden zipper. Inside the wedding dress was a secret compartment. And inside that compartment… Was a stack of documents. Lucas’s face changed. Because he recognized the first page. It was a legal document. A custody agreement. His custody agreement. With Lily’s name written clearly across the top. The entire room erupted. Lucas reached forward and grabbed the papers. His hands trembled as he read. Then he looked at Vanessa. “What did you do?” Vanessa’s tears disappeared. The fear on her face was replaced by something colder. Determined. “I gave you a choice.” Lucas looked confused. “What choice?” Vanessa stepped closer. “Me…” She pointed at Lily. “Or her.” The words struck harder than any scream. Lucas stared at the woman standing in front of him. The woman he almost married. The woman who had hidden a legal document inside her wedding dress. And suddenly he understood. This wedding was never about love. It was a test. Vanessa had planned to force him into choosing. But she made one mistake. She underestimated a father’s love. Lucas slowly removed the wedding ring from his finger. The entire room watched. Vanessa’s face changed. “Lucas…” He placed the ring in his palm. Then he said the words nobody expected. “The wedding ended before I walked into this room.” He looked at Lily. “You already made my decision.” Then he turned back to Vanessa. “And now I want to know one thing.” His eyes moved to the hidden documents. “How long have you been planning to take my daughter away from me?” Vanessa said nothing. But the answer was already written on her face. And somewhere outside the wedding hall… A woman named Clara was watching everything unfold. Because she knew the truth. The documents inside Vanessa’s dress were only a small part of the plan. The real secret… Was hidden somewhere else. And when Lucas discovered who had helped Vanessa create that plan… The wedding disaster would become a family war. To be continued… / Chapter 2 / 14

Chapter 3: The Woman Behind the Plan

Chapter 3: The Woman Behind the Plan

The wedding hall had become a place of broken promises.

The flowers were still arranged perfectly.
The candles were still burning.
The music system was still ready to play the first dance song.

But nobody cared about those things anymore.

The fairy tale had collapsed.

Lucas stood in the center of the room, holding the custody documents that had been hidden inside Vanessa’s wedding dress.

The same dress that was supposed to represent love and a new beginning.

Now it felt like a disguise.

A beautiful cover hiding an ugly truth.

Vanessa stared at him.

For the first time since Lucas met her, she looked completely exposed.

Not because her secret had been discovered.

But because Lucas was no longer the man she thought she controlled.

“Lucas…”

Her voice trembled.

“Please let me explain.”

Lucas looked at her.

“Explain what?”

His tone was calm.

Almost frighteningly calm.

“Explain why you hid legal documents about my daughter inside your wedding dress?”

Vanessa opened her mouth.

But no answer came.

The guests watched silently.

Some looked shocked.
Some looked angry.
Others simply looked uncomfortable, wishing they could disappear from the room.

Lucas’s father stepped forward.

“Vanessa, what exactly is happening?”

Vanessa looked toward him.

“I never wanted to hurt Lily.”

Lucas immediately interrupted.

“But you planned to remove her from my life.”

“No!”

Vanessa’s voice became louder.

“I wanted balance.”

Lucas frowned.

“Balance?”

“Yes.”

She wiped her tears.

“You don’t understand what it feels like to enter a relationship where you will always be second.”

Lucas stared at her.

“Second?”

Vanessa pointed toward Lily.

“Everything is about her.”

The little girl lowered her head.

That small movement broke something inside Lucas.

Because Lily had heard every word.

Every cruel sentence.

A child should never have to wonder if they are a burden.

Lucas stepped between Vanessa and his daughter.

“You were never supposed to compete with my daughter.”

Vanessa looked away.

“But I was.”

“No.”

Lucas shook his head.

“You chose to.”

The room became quiet.

Then Vanessa’s mother suddenly stepped forward.

“You are judging my daughter without knowing the whole story.”

Lucas turned toward her.

“Then tell me.”

She hesitated.

That hesitation made everyone suspicious.

“Tell everyone.”

Lucas raised the documents.

“Who helped Vanessa prepare these?”

Nobody answered.

Then a voice came from the entrance.

“I did.”

Everyone turned.

Standing near the open doorway was Clara.

Vanessa’s sister.

The woman who had supposedly left because of an emergency.

She slowly walked into the wedding hall.

Her face was pale.

But she was no longer hiding.

Lucas stared at her.

“You.”

Clara looked down.

“I know you’re angry.”

“Angry?”

Lucas laughed quietly.

A humorless laugh.

“My daughter was locked in a bathroom on my wedding day.”

Clara looked at Lily.

Guilt appeared on her face.

“I didn’t know Vanessa would do that.”

Lucas narrowed his eyes.

“But you knew about the plan.”

Silence.

That was the answer.

Lucas walked closer.

“How long?”

Clara swallowed.

“Six months.”

Everyone gasped.

Six months.

Vanessa and Clara had been planning this long before today.

Lucas looked at Vanessa.

“You spent six months pretending to love my daughter?”

Vanessa’s face tightened.

“That’s not true.”

“Then what was true?”

She looked away.

Lucas continued.

“You told Lily she wouldn’t be my family anymore.”

Vanessa shook her head.

“I was angry.”

“You were talking to a six-year-old.”

Her expression changed.

For the first time, Vanessa seemed to realize how terrible her own words sounded.

But Lucas wasn’t finished.

“Why the custody papers?”

Clara answered.

“Because Vanessa wanted protection.”

Lucas turned toward her.

“Protection from what?”

Clara looked uncomfortable.

“From losing you.”

Lucas stared.

“That makes no sense.”

Clara sighed.

“Vanessa believed that after marriage, you would eventually choose your wife over your daughter.”

The words hung in the air.

Lucas felt disgusted.

“She thought that?”

Vanessa finally spoke.

“I thought every man eventually wants a normal family.”

Lucas looked at Lily.

Then back at her.

“This is my normal family.”

Vanessa’s eyes became colder.

“You don’t understand.”

“No.”

Lucas shook his head.

“I understand perfectly.”

He walked toward the table where the wedding cake stood.

The cake had their names written on it.

Lucas and Vanessa.

A symbol of a future that no longer existed.

He picked up the small knife beside it.

Several guests gasped.

But Lucas didn’t move toward Vanessa.

He simply cut the name decoration.

Removing Vanessa’s name.

Then he placed the piece down.

“This wedding is over.”

Nobody spoke.

Vanessa looked devastated.

“You’re throwing away everything because of one mistake?”

Lucas looked at her.

“One mistake?”

His voice became stronger.

“You didn’t accidentally hurt Lily.”

He pointed toward the documents.

“You planned.”

He pointed toward Clara.

“You prepared.”

Then he looked at Vanessa’s dress.

“You hid.”

Each word hit harder.

“This wasn’t one mistake.”

Lucas took Lily’s hand.

“This was a decision.”

The little girl looked up at him.

“Daddy…”

“Yes?”

“Are we going home?”

Lucas knelt down.

“Yes.”

A tiny smile appeared on Lily’s face.

For the first time that day, she looked safe.

But before Lucas could leave, Clara spoke.

“Wait.”

Everyone stopped.

Lucas turned.

“What now?”

Clara looked terrified.

“There’s something you need to know.”

Vanessa immediately looked at her.

“Clara, don’t.”

That reaction told Lucas everything.

“There’s more?”

Clara looked at Lucas.

“Yes.”

Her voice became quieter.

“The custody papers weren’t the real plan.”

Lucas felt a chill.

“What are you talking about?”

Clara took a deep breath.

“Vanessa didn’t want you to simply send Lily away.”

Lucas frowned.

“Then what did she want?”

Clara looked at Vanessa.

“She wanted Lily’s own words to be used against you.”

Lucas didn’t understand.

“What?”

Clara continued.

“She recorded conversations with Lily.”

The room froze.

Lucas’s face changed.

“She what?”

Vanessa stepped forward.

“Clara!”

But it was too late.

The secret was out.

Clara continued:

“She planned to edit those recordings and make it look like Lily was unhappy living with you.”

Lucas felt his entire body go cold.

A plan.

A carefully designed plan.

Not just to separate a father and daughter.

But to make Lucas believe he was the problem.

“She wanted to convince a court that Lily needed a different home.”

Lucas looked at Vanessa.

“You were going to use my daughter?”

Vanessa’s eyes filled with tears.

“I was desperate.”

Lucas shook his head.

“No.”

His voice was quiet.

“You weren’t desperate.”

He looked at Lily.

“You were willing to destroy a child’s heart to get what you wanted.”

Vanessa had no answer.

Because she knew he was right.

But then…

A phone suddenly rang.

Everyone looked around.

The sound came from Clara’s handbag.

She froze.

Lucas noticed.

“Who is calling?”

Clara didn’t answer.

The phone kept ringing.

Finally, Lucas stepped forward.

“Give it to me.”

Clara hesitated.

Then slowly handed him the phone.

The screen showed an unknown number.

Lucas answered.

At first, there was only silence.

Then a man’s voice spoke.

“Lucas?”

Lucas froze.

Because he recognized the voice.

It belonged to someone he never expected.

Someone who had disappeared years ago.

Someone connected to Lily’s past.

The man whispered:

“You need to listen carefully.”

Lucas held his breath.

“I know what Vanessa did.”

A pause.

“And I know why she wanted your daughter gone.”

Lucas’s expression changed.

“Who are you?”

The voice answered:

“I’m the person who can prove Vanessa’s entire plan…”

Another pause.

“…and the person who knows the secret about Lily’s mother.”

Lucas looked at his daughter.

His heart started racing.

Because he suddenly realized…

May you like

The wedding betrayal was only the first layer of a much bigger mystery.
