Chapter 2: The Secret Beneath the White Dress The silence inside the wedding hall felt heavier than any sound. Only minutes earlier, everyone had been celebrating. Now, every eye was fixed on Vanessa. The bride who had walked in surrounded by flowers and applause was suddenly standing alone beneath the bright chandelier lights, holding onto a secret nobody understood. Lucas still held Lily tightly. His daughter’s small hands were wrapped around his arm, as if she was afraid that if she let go, Vanessa would somehow take him away. That feeling hurt him more than anything. Because children did not invent fear without a reason. “Lucas…” Vanessa finally spoke. Her voice was softer now. Different. The confident woman who always knew exactly what to say had disappeared. “I think you’re letting a child’s imagination destroy something beautiful.” Lucas looked at her. “A child’s imagination?” He repeated the words slowly. “Lily was locked inside a bathroom crying at my wedding.” Vanessa’s expression tightened. “I didn’t lock her there.” “Then who did?” The question landed like a stone. Vanessa looked away. Just for a moment. But Lucas saw it. And that was enough. “Vanessa.” His voice became colder. “I asked you a question.” She swallowed. “I don’t know.” A few guests exchanged uncomfortable looks. “You don’t know?” Lucas asked. Vanessa nodded quickly. “She probably went there herself. Children wander around. Maybe she got scared and misunderstood something she heard.” Lucas stared at her. But Lily suddenly spoke. “No.” Everyone looked down at her. The little girl wiped her tears with her sleeve. “She didn’t sound confused.” Lucas crouched beside her. “What did you hear, sweetheart?” Lily looked at Vanessa. “She was talking to Aunt Clara.” A strange expression crossed Vanessa’s face. Only for a second. But Lucas noticed. “Clara?” Vanessa’s sister. The woman who was supposed to be helping with the wedding preparations. Lucas turned around. “Where is Clara?” Nobody answered. The wedding coordinator looked nervous. “She left about twenty minutes ago.” Lucas frowned. “Left?” “Yes. She said she had an emergency.” That was strange. Very strange. Because Clara had been excited about this wedding. She had been one of the biggest supporters of Vanessa and Lucas’s relationship. At least, that was what Lucas believed. Then Lily grabbed his hand. “Daddy…” “What is it?” “She said something else.” Lucas leaned closer. “What?” Lily whispered: “She said she finally found the papers.” The room became silent again. Papers. Lucas felt something uncomfortable in his chest. “What papers?” Lily shook her head. “I don’t know.” Vanessa suddenly stepped forward. “Lucas, this is ridiculous.” Her voice became sharper. “You’re seriously going to question me because of something a child overheard?” Lucas looked at her. “No.” He looked around the room. “I’m questioning you because your reaction is telling me there is something wrong.” Vanessa’s face changed. “You don’t trust me?” Lucas didn’t answer immediately. Because that was the question he had been asking himself for months. Did he really know Vanessa? At the beginning, she seemed perfect. She met Lily at a park when Lucas was picking her up from school. Lily had dropped her toy rabbit, and Vanessa had been the person who picked it up. She had smiled. She had knelt down. She had talked to Lily like she mattered. That moment convinced Lucas. He thought he had found someone who could bring warmth back into their home. But recently… Small things had changed. Vanessa stopped spending time with Lily. She complained whenever Lucas planned family activities. She started saying things like: “She needs to understand that adults need privacy.” Or: “You can’t let your daughter control every decision in our marriage.” At the time, Lucas thought she was simply adjusting. Now… Those memories felt different. Like pieces of a puzzle he had refused to put together. “Open the dress.” The words shocked everyone. Lucas’s mother looked at him. “Lucas, what are you saying?” He didn’t look away from Vanessa. “You heard Lily.” Vanessa immediately stepped back. “No.” The answer came too quickly. Too strongly. The room froze. Lucas noticed. “If there’s nothing wrong, why are you afraid?” Vanessa’s breathing became faster. “You cannot humiliate me like this.” “I’m not trying to humiliate you.” Lucas looked at Lily. “I’m trying to protect my daughter.” That sentence changed everything. Because everyone understood. This was no longer about a wedding. It was about a father choosing his child. Vanessa’s mother suddenly stood up. “Lucas, you’re making a terrible mistake.” Lucas looked at her. “Why?” She hesitated. “My daughter loves Lily.” But even she sounded uncertain. Lucas slowly walked closer. “Then prove it.” Vanessa’s eyes widened. “What?” “Show everyone there is nothing hidden.” The entire room waited. The photographer quietly lowered his camera. The guests stopped whispering. The bride stood in the center of the hall. Alone. Finally, Vanessa looked at Lucas with tears forming in her eyes. “You really think I would hurt your daughter?” Lucas said nothing. That silence was her answer. A tear rolled down Vanessa’s cheek. Then she whispered: “Fine.” Everyone watched as she reached toward the side of her wedding gown. For a moment, Lucas thought she was going to reveal whatever was hidden. But instead… She smiled. A strange, bitter smile. “You want the truth?” Lucas stared at her. “Yes.” Vanessa slowly touched a hidden zipper beneath the layers of fabric. “I wanted to tell you after the ceremony.” The guests gasped. Lucas’s heart started pounding. “Tell me what?” Vanessa looked around the room. Then she looked directly at Lily. And what she said next changed everything. “I was never planning to become her mother.” A cold silence filled the hall. Lucas felt Lily’s hand tighten around his. Vanessa continued: “I knew from the beginning that Lily would always come first.” Her voice became calmer. Almost emotionless. “And I knew I could never compete with that.” Lucas stared at her in disbelief. “Then why did you marry me?” Vanessa looked down at the dress. “Because I thought I could change your priorities.” The guests looked horrified. Lucas’s expression hardened. “What does that mean?” Vanessa slowly pulled the hidden zipper. Inside the wedding dress was a secret compartment. And inside that compartment… Was a stack of documents. Lucas’s face changed. Because he recognized the first page. It was a legal document. A custody agreement. His custody agreement. With Lily’s name written clearly across the top. The entire room erupted. Lucas reached forward and grabbed the papers. His hands trembled as he read. Then he looked at Vanessa. “What did you do?” Vanessa’s tears disappeared. The fear on her face was replaced by something colder. Determined. “I gave you a choice.” Lucas looked confused. “What choice?” Vanessa stepped closer. “Me…” She pointed at Lily. “Or her.” The words struck harder than any scream. Lucas stared at the woman standing in front of him. The woman he almost married. The woman who had hidden a legal document inside her wedding dress. And suddenly he understood. This wedding was never about love. It was a test. Vanessa had planned to force him into choosing. But she made one mistake. She underestimated a father’s love. Lucas slowly removed the wedding ring from his finger. The entire room watched. Vanessa’s face changed. “Lucas…” He placed the ring in his palm. Then he said the words nobody expected. “The wedding ended before I walked into this room.” He looked at Lily. “You already made my decision.” Then he turned back to Vanessa. “And now I want to know one thing.” His eyes moved to the hidden documents. “How long have you been planning to take my daughter away from me?” Vanessa said nothing. But the answer was already written on her face. And somewhere outside the wedding hall… A woman named Clara was watching everything unfold. Because she knew the truth. The documents inside Vanessa’s dress were only a small part of the plan. The real secret… Was hidden somewhere else. And when Lucas discovered who had helped Vanessa create that plan… The wedding disaster would become a family war. To be continued… / Chapter 13 / 14

Chapter 14: The Night Emily Died

Chapter 14: The Night Emily Died

The rain poured outside Lucas’s house.

The sky seemed to mirror the chaos inside his mind.

For six years, he had carried one painful memory.

Emily leaving the house that night.

The phone call he never received.

The police arriving.

The hospital.

The words that destroyed his world.

“She didn’t make it.”

For six years, Lucas believed he knew what happened.

Now he realized…

He had only known the version someone wanted him to believe.

Alexander sat across from him.

The man Lucas had once considered a stranger.

The man connected to the biggest secret of his daughter’s life.

But tonight, Lucas needed answers.

Not anger.

Not revenge.

Answers.

“Start from the beginning.”

Alexander looked down.

“The night Emily died…”

His voice became quiet.

“I was supposed to meet her.”

Lucas immediately reacted.

“You?”

Alexander nodded.

“She contacted me.”

“Why?”

“Because she discovered something about my family.”

Lucas stared.

“What?”

Alexander took a deep breath.

“She discovered Richard was involved in illegal activities.”

Lucas already knew part of that.

But Alexander continued.

“She also discovered Vanessa knew about it.”

Lucas clenched his jaw.

“So Emily was going to expose them.”

“Yes.”

“Then why did she meet you?”

Alexander looked at him.

“Because Emily believed you and Lily were in danger.”

Lucas looked confused.

“From you?”

Alexander shook his head.

“No.”

A pause.

“From everyone.”

The room became silent.

Alexander continued.

“Emily knew Vanessa was trying to enter your life.”

Lucas looked away.

“She warned me.”

Alexander nodded.

“But she didn’t know how far Vanessa would go.”

“What happened that night?”

Alexander closed his eyes.

“I arrived at the meeting place first.”

“Where?”

“An old warehouse near the highway.”

Lucas frowned.

“Why there?”

“Because Emily didn’t trust phones anymore.”

That sentence made Lucas uncomfortable.

“She thought someone was listening?”

“Yes.”

Alexander continued.

“When Emily arrived, she had documents.”

“About what?”

“About Vanessa.”

Lucas waited.

“She had proof that Vanessa and Mark had been working together.”

Lucas’s eyes narrowed.

“Mark was there?”

Alexander nodded.

“Yes.”

The room became colder.

“What?”

“Mark arrived before Emily left.”

Lucas felt sick.

“Why?”

Alexander looked at him.

“Because Mark wanted the documents.”

Lucas remembered.

Mark’s words.

His lies.

His betrayal.

But there was still something missing.

“What happened next?”

Alexander’s face became painful.

“Emily refused.”

“She said she would give everything to the police.”

Lucas swallowed.

“Then?”

Alexander looked down.

“Then someone attacked her.”

The room went silent.

Lucas’s voice became low.

“Who?”

Alexander looked at him.

“I didn’t see the face.”

Lucas froze.

“But…”

Alexander continued.

“I heard the voice.”

Lucas leaned forward.

“Whose?”

Alexander hesitated.

Then said:

“Someone Emily trusted.”

The same words again.

The same mystery.

Lucas felt frustration rising.

“Everyone keeps saying that.”

Alexander looked at him.

“Because it’s true.”

“Who?”

Alexander opened his mouth.

But before he could answer…

The lights suddenly went out.

The entire house went dark.

Lucas immediately stood.

“What happened?”

No answer.

Then…

A sound.

A door opening.

Lucas’s instincts took over.

He moved toward Lily’s room.

“Lily!”

No response.

His heart stopped.

He ran.

The bedroom door was open.

The window was broken.

And Lily…

Was gone.

The world stopped.

Lucas stood frozen.

Her bed was empty.

Her toy rabbit was on the floor.

The drawing she made earlier was missing.

“LILY!”

His voice shook the entire house.

Alexander rushed inside.

“What happened?”

Lucas turned toward him.

“She’s gone.”

Alexander’s expression changed instantly.

Not surprise.

Recognition.

“No…”

Lucas grabbed his arm.

“You know something.”

Alexander looked terrified.

“He found her.”

“Who?”

Alexander looked at him.

“The person Emily was protecting her from.”

Lucas’s breathing became heavy.

“Who?”

Alexander’s voice was almost a whisper.

“Mark.”

Lucas froze.

“No.”

Alexander shook his head.

“Mark wasn’t the mastermind.”

“Then why did he take her?”

Alexander looked at the broken window.

“Because he was ordered to.”

Lucas felt his blood run cold.

“By who?”

Alexander looked toward the darkness outside.

And answered:

“The person who has controlled everything from the beginning.”

Meanwhile…

Far away from Lucas’s house…

Lily sat in the back seat of a car.

She was scared.

A man sat beside her.

She didn’t recognize him.

But she recognized his voice.

Because she had heard it before.

In dreams.

The man looked at her.

“I’m sorry.”

Lily hugged her rabbit.

“I want my daddy.”

The man looked away.

“I know.”

“Why did you take me?”

He didn’t answer.

Because he didn’t know how to explain something so complicated to a child.

Finally, he said:

“Because I need to protect you.”

Lily shook her head.

“My daddy protects me.”

The man looked at her.

And for a moment…

He looked hurt.

Because he knew.

The man protecting Lily was not him.

It was Lucas.

Then his phone rang.

He answered.

“Yes.”

A cold voice spoke.

“Do you have the girl?”

The man looked at Lily.

“Yes.”

“Good.”

A pause.

“Bring her to me.”

The man hesitated.

“What about Lucas?”

The voice became colder.

“Lucas is no longer a problem.”

The call ended.

The man looked at Lily.

Then whispered:

“I’m sorry.”

Because he finally understood.

He had made the same mistake everyone else made.

They all thought Lily was a weakness.

A tool.

A key.

But they were wrong.

Lily was the reason Lucas would never stop fighting.

Back at the house, Lucas stood surrounded by police officers.

But he wasn’t waiting.

He wasn’t sitting.

He wasn’t breaking down.

He was searching.

Sarah arrived and saw his expression.

She immediately understood.

“You know who took her.”

Lucas nodded.

“Yes.”

“Who?”

Lucas looked at Alexander.

Then at the evidence scattered around the room.

His voice was cold.

“Everyone thought they could use my daughter.”

A pause.

“They were wrong.”

He picked up Lily’s drawing.

The picture of the mysterious man.

The man who said he was coming for her.

Lucas looked at the face drawn by his daughter.

Then he noticed something.

A small detail.

Something he had missed.

The mark near the eye.

But it wasn’t a scar.

It was a symbol.

A symbol Lucas had seen before.

On one document.

One company record.

One name.

Richard Vale.

Lucas’s expression changed.

Because the person behind everything…

Was not Vanessa.

Not Mark.

Not Alexander.

It was the man who started it all.

Richard Vale.

The father who created the nightmare.

Lucas looked toward the darkness outside.

Then whispered:

“I'm coming for my daughter.”

And this time…

May you like

Nobody would stop him.

To be continued…
