Chapter 12 - The Girl Who RememberedAlexander was alive.

Barely.
Clara dragged him through the emergency exit while alarms screamed around them.
They reached an abandoned parking garage.
Clara pressed a towel against his wound.
“You're going to survive.”
Alexander grimaced.
“That's an order?”
“Yes.”
He smiled weakly.
“Good.”
She looked at him.
“You told me I was the key.”
“Yes.”
“I remembered something.”
“What?”
“The melody my mother taught me.”
She pulled out the black box.
Inside was the Orchid code.
Together, they entered the sequence.
The screen opened.
A map appeared.
Beneath the ruins of the original Vale estate was a hidden facility.
Alexander stared.
“My father built that place.”
“Did he know?”
“I don't know.”
Clara looked at the map.
A blinking red light appeared.
ACTIVE.
Someone was already inside.
They traveled there before dawn.
The estate was abandoned.
Burned walls.
Broken windows.
Ash-covered gardens.
But beneath the ruined ballroom...
a steel elevator remained.
Clara entered the code.
The doors opened.
They descended.
The underground facility was untouched.
Computers hummed.
Files lined the walls.
A massive screen flickered on.
Then Clara saw herself.
A child.
Standing in the center of the facility.
Gabriel's voice played through the speakers.
“Do you remember now?”
Clara watched the recording.
Six-year-old Clara held the black box.
Eleanor stood beside her.
Jonathan entered.
Then Gabriel.
Young Gabriel knelt in front of Clara.
He placed a hand on her head.
“You're going to help me change the world.”
Little Clara stared at him.
Then asked:
“Will Mommy come back?”
Gabriel smiled.
“She won't need to.”
The recording changed.
Eleanor fought him.
Jonathan attacked.
The screen flickered.
Then the final image appeared.
Little Clara opening the black box.
Inside was a drive.
She hid it.
Not in the facility.
Not in the house.
Inside her own stuffed rabbit.
Clara gasped.
“The rabbit.”
“What rabbit?”
“My childhood rabbit.”
She looked around.
A storage room stood nearby.
Inside was a single dusty box.
She opened it.
The stuffed rabbit was there.
Clara ripped it open.
A tiny encrypted drive fell into her hand.
Alexander stared.
“What is that?”
Clara smiled for the first time.
“The real Orchid.”
The computers around them suddenly activated.
Thousands of files appeared.
Names.
Accounts.
Recordings.
Corruption.
Murder.
Blackmail.
Everything.
Then one file opened automatically.
TARGET: CLARA WHITMORE
Under it was a line:
STATUS: SUCCESSFULLY LOCATED.
Alexander turned.
“Clara.”
She looked at the doorway.
Gabriel stood there.
Applauding.
“You finally found it.”
Clara held up the drive.
“You wanted this.”
Gabriel smiled.
“No.”
He looked at Alexander.
“I wanted you to find it.”
Then every computer screen changed.
A countdown began.
10:00
Alexander looked horrified.
“What happens at zero?”
Gabriel answered.
“Every secret in Orchid goes public.”
Clara's eyes widened.
“That's what you wanted.”
Gabriel smiled.
“No.”
He pointed toward the screen.
“That was never my target.”
The countdown continued.

“You are.”
